#AceWorldNews – PAKISTAN – 22 March – At least 35 people including women and children burnt to death in a multiple pile up, which involved two buses that were smuggling Iranian fuel across Pakistan.
A further 20 people are being treated for severe burns in Karachi, the Pakistani capital, according to Ahmed Nawaz, the police chief for the Baluchistan province.
The death toll was so high because sealed windows and automatic doors meant the passengers were unable to escape from the burning wreckage.
The first bus was in a head on collision with a truck, which was then hit by another truck and another bus. Pakistan has one of the worst road safety records in the world because of a combination of poorly maintained roads and vehicles, and reckless driving.
