` Senate Committee in Pakistan has Unanimously Agreed to a Resolution to Restore YouTube in Pakistan ‘

#AceWorldNews – ISLAMABAD – April 21 – The Senate Functional Committee on Human Rights (HRC) in Pakistan has unanimously passed a resolution to restore YouTube in Pakistan here on Monday.

The resolution said that there was no excuse for the government to maintain its ban on YouTube as the blasphemy content still available on other social websites.

The HRC has quoted Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) regarding the issued that the PTA also demanded to remove ban on video sharing website.

The HRC further added that the issued will be raised today in the ongoing session of upper house (Senate).
The video-sharing website has been blocked in Pakistan since September 2012 over its failure to take down the “Innocence of Muslims” movie that sparked furious protests around the world.

Religion in Pakistan, where 97 per cent of the population are Muslims, is a very sensitive topic and perceived insults to the faith can spark violent reactions.

In November 2011 the telecommunications authority tried to ban early 1,700 “obscene” words from text messages, which included innocuous terms such as “lotion”, “athlete’s foot” and “idiot”.
