#AceNewsServices – October 27 – Hungary’s consulate in Istanbul received packets of an unidentified yellow powder on Monday, Reuters reported, citing the city governor’s office.
Similar envelopes sent to five Western consulates in Turkey’s largest city last week prompted security alerts.
Sixteen people from three of the missions of the US, Canada, France, Germany and Belgium were hospitalized as a precaution.
The package at the Hungarian consulate is believed to have been sent at the same time as the others but was not opened until Monday morning.
The yellow powder sent to a number of consulates in Istanbul showed no initial signs of a biological threat, Turkey’s health ministry said Monday.
“There was no sign of anthrax, plague, tularaemia, ricin or botulinum toxin or any other biological warfare substance,” the ministry said, as cited by Reuters.
Further tests are being carried out for other possible substances after the consulates of the US, Canada, France, Germany, Belgium and Hungary received suspicious packages containing powder.
