Police have recovered a body from a river in Derbyshire after heavy rain and flooding battered the region last night: Emergency services were called to reports of a woman who had been swept away by floodwater in Darley Dale, near Matlock, in the early hours of this morning (November 8): A body was recovered from the River Derwent at around 10.40am, Derbyshire Police said.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Police said: “Emergency services were called to a stretch of the River Derwent in Darley Dale, close to Matlock, in the early hours of this morning: “The woman was reported as having been swept away by floodwater in Rowsley and the body of what is believed to be the same woman was found in Darley Dale and was recovered at 10.40am.

“The family of the woman have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this time.”………….The Environment Agency issued close to 200 flood warnings and alerts across the north of England and warned residents to stay away from swollen rivers.

At least 10 rail routes have been blocked due to severe flooding, mainly in South and West Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire: Northern Rail and TransPennine Express are advising affected customers not to travel where possible, and say rail replacement buses will be very limited due to poor road conditions: The line closures include some of Britain’s key inter-city links: No trains are running on the usual line from Leeds to London King’s Cross because the line is blocked in the South Elmsall and Adwick area: Some Leeds trains will now run between York or Doncaster and London.
