Court Case Notes:

Julia McSorley is a Senior Crown Prosecutor for CPS West Midlands
Mohammed Ali Sultan (DOB 26/11/1986): Guilty of one count of rape and three counts of indecent assault
Amjad Hussain (DOB 8/11/1981): Guilty of two counts of indecent assault
Shafiq Younas (DOB 21/5/1984): Guilty of indecent assault (Majority verdict 10-2)
Amjad Hussain (DOB 8/11/1981): Not guilty of indecent assault
Nazam Akhtar (DOB 1984): Not guilty of rape
Mohammed Rizwan (DOB 2/10/1982): Guilty of two counts of indecent assault

“ Mohammed Ali Sultan, 33, was given the victim’s number by an unnamed male: Sultan made her perform sexual acts on him on a number of occasions and raped her: He said that, if she didn’t continue to meet him, he would tell people at her school about what she was doing: Sultan took her to meet other men and made her do what the men wanted: Amjad Hussain, 38 and Shaqil Younis, 35, were introduced to the victim via Sultan and she was made to perform sex acts with them too………………….Mohammed Rizwan,37, worked at the pizza parlour and took part in the sexual abuse of the victim “

After a particularly humiliating act of abuse, the victim found the courage to tell her mum and the police were called: Unfortunately, because the victim was young, vulnerable and frightened at the time, she was unwilling to provide the police with details of the abuse she had suffered: Eventually when the victim turned 15, the abuse ended.

Julia McSorley, from CPS West Midlands, said: “The victim in this disturbing case was a vulnerable 13-year-old child when the abuse began, struggling to come to terms with the death of her parent: “Her abusers groomed her with cigarettes and alcohol. The friendship that she thought she had developed with them quickly became anything but: ”These men used a child for their own sexual gratification and passed her around between themselves, including abusing her in a churchyard at night: “The perpetrators of sexual abuse choose their victims carefully: They seek out people who are isolated and vulnerable……………….“These defendants denied what they did to this child, forcing her to relive the awful events of those years at this trial: “This has been an extremely difficult case for the Crown Prosecution Service to build and, understandably, many people were reluctant to give evidence about painful events from several years ago: “In the selfish pursuit of their own sexual gratification, these men have burdened this victim with the significant and lasting effects of their offending: “Our thoughts are with her and the Crown Prosecution Service would like to thank her for her incredible courage in giving evidence and securing the convictions of the men who carried out these dreadful offences.”
