#AceHealthReport – June.14: Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Sunday warned that if businesses and individuals do not comply with state law regarding the coronavirus reopening plan, they will face consequences and the region could be shut down again: New York City has been put on notice after more videos of large crowds outside bars and restaurants surfaced over the weekend:
Gov.Cuomo Statement: NYC could be shut down if reopening rules aren’t enforced and #coronavirus cases spike PIX11News.Com/
“There is a very real possibility that we would roll back the reopening in those areas,” Cuomo said: The state has received 25,000 complaints about businesses violating the phased reopening plan……….Manhattan and the Hamptons are the leading areas in the state for violations, according to Cuomo.
“We’ve never received so many complaints in such a short period of time,” the governor said: Long Island is in Phase 2 of the reopening plan.
New York City — widely considered the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak that killed more than 24,000 people statewide — is currently in Phase 1………While curbside pickup of food and alcohol is allowed, outdoor dining is prohibited until the city’s health data improves enough to move into Phase 2…………..Restrictions on outdoor gatherings have also been loosened, however, officials say people should still wear masks and keep 6 feet apart when possible……………That hasn’t stopped social distancing-fatigued New Yorkers from congregating on sidewalks outside bars and restaurants offering curbside pickup.

The governor said he personally called several owners after seeing photos of those establishments breaking the law: Bars and restaurants that do not stick to rules of the phase their region is in can lose their liquor license, Cuomo said……………State investigators are conducting inspections and businesses will be cited if they are caught in violation.
Cuomo said he is also aware of many reports across the state of mass gatherings with no social distancing and no masks: Individuals can be fined for open container and social distancing violations, the governor said.
“I’m warning today, in a nice way, the consequences of your actions,” Cuomo added. “I’m not going to allow situations to exist that we know have a high likelihood to cause an increase in the spread of the virus.”Cuomo also had harsh words for local governments, which are responsible for monitoring compliance of the reopening plan.
The governor called on mayors and county executives to “do your job.”A request for comment from Mayor Bill de Blasio’s office was not immediately returned on Sunday.
The governor’s warning to bars and restaurants comes amid continued protests against police brutality in New York City in the wake of the Minneapolis police custody death of George Floyd……………Critics have argued that the state is allowing thousands of people to congregate for protests in violation of the reopening plan.
Cuomo said on Sunday the impact of those protests on coronavirus health data has so far been minimal but that a spike in cases is still possible: He has urged demonstrators and police to wear a mask during protests.
