Government authorities have imposed quarantine measures on about 90,000 residents across 22 medium-risk residential neighborhoods in hopes of containing the outbreak: Overnight, parts of the city were walled up and security checkpoints stationed for all entrances and exits.
On Tuesday, state media reported that Beijing has also banned residents of high-risk neighborhoods from leaving the city: Outbound taxi and car-hailing services have been suspended according to state media…………”Beijing will take the most resolute, decisive, and strict measures to contain the outbreak,” Beijing city government spokesperson Xu Heijan said on Tuesday at a press conference.
Shanghai has also demanded travelers from medium-to-high risk areas in China, including Beijing, to be quarantined for two weeks: Other cities have also urged residents not to travel to the capital. The city of Daqing is requiring travelers coming from Beijing to isolate for 21 days.
The National Health Commission said, “Beijing is facing a formidable challenge in controlling and preventing the spread of COVID-19, and an expert team with epidemic control experience in Wuhan, Hubei province, has been deployed in the capital,” on Sunday:

The recent flare up in the capital has been traced to the Xinfadi market, a wholesale food and vegetable market, officials confirmed: After 36 new domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases were confirmed to be linked to the market, operations were suspended Saturday.
Beijing has also tightened measures for schools and public transportation. On Friday, June 12, reopening plans for primary schools and bus services, which were both scheduled to resume Monday, were suspended: On June 11, Beijing reported its first new local coronavirus case in nearly two months when a 52-year-old man tested positive despite not showing any symptoms of cough or chest congestion.
The sudden re-emergence of COVID-19 has raised concerns over a second wave of the virus, which was first identified in Wuhan late last year: Newsweek reached out to the National Health Commission for comment but did not hear back before publication.
