#AceNewsReport – Aug.19: The 33-year-old was handed the order after a string of shoplifting offences across the west of Gateshead in July last year: He admitted swiping alcohol and meat from shops in Dunston, including the Co-op and the Lifestyle Express store: During one raid at Life Style Express he threatened staff and said he would return to the shop to cause criminal damage: He was given an opportunity to turn his life and handed a community order: But last Wednesday (August 13) the prolific thief was back before Newcastle Crown Court after breaching the terms of the order by failing to attend his appointments with authorities:

Inspector Alan Davison, of the Gateshead West Neighbourhood Policing Team, welcomed the custodial sentence: He said: “Billy Joab is well known to police and he is also a familiar face to businesses across the Gateshead area. “He was given an opportunity by a judge to get on the straight and narrow but he has failed to comply with his community order. “Joab has continued to be a menace in the community and the result is a custodial sentence………..“That is a sentence that I welcome and I know it will please our business community in the west of Gateshead…………. “We will continue to work with those businesses, and residents in our area, to make our streets a safer place to live.” Joab, of Knightside Gardens, Dunston, admitted failing to comply with the requirements of a community order:

He was sentenced for the original offences he admitted on February 11 – three counts of shoplifting and one count of threatening to damage property:
