Among those confirmed today is the full closure of a primary school in Salford: St Gilbert’s RC Primary in Winton, Eccles, has been forced to close to every year group after positive Covid cases left just two teachers on site.

Bosses wrote to parents saying: “It is not viable to keep the school open this week due to the situation that we find ourselves in.”…….There have been a number of positive tests throughout the school, including confirmed cases among eight members of staff, meaning 18 staff members need to self-isolate: Elsewhere and bubbles of children are continuing to be sent home across Greater Manchester:

Some schools are still asking entire year groups to isolate, including Holy Family RC and CE College in Heywood and Co-op Academy Failsworth, which have both sent Year 9s home: While others are asking only the close contacts of confirmed cases to stay home, such as Manchester Academy High, where some Year 11s have been asked to self-isolate, and Copley Academy in Stalybridge where close contacts of positive pupils in Years 7, 10 and 11 are affected:

Some schools which already had a number of children at home have had to tell more to stay off………….Including Blessed Thomas Holford Catholic College in Altrincham, which has sent the whole of Year 10 home, William Hulme’s Grammar School in Manchester, where there have been more confirmed cases and The Radclyffe School in Oldham, which has seen more pupils tested positive in Years 7, 9 and 11:
