Reuters could not independently confirm the report by Milenio, which cited officials with the attorney general’s office: The attorney general’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment: Garcia Luna pled not guilty last month to U.S. charges stemming from a multimillion-dollar bribery scheme allegedly designed to boost the Sinaloa cartel once headed by jailed drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman.
Garcia Luna is accused of taking suitcases of cash from the cartel to ensure safe passage for its drugs as well as passing on information about its rivals: He was arrested in late 2019 in Dallas and is currently being held in New York awaiting trial:
