(MOSCOW) #Coronavirus Report: Putin says the country had low fatality rate but Russian officials have admitted on Monday that #Covid19 death toll is more than three-times-higher than first reported making it the country with the third-largest number of deaths in Rosstat statistics agency #AceHealthDesk report

#AceHealthReport – Dec.29: Russia says its coronavirus death toll is more than three times higher than it had previously reported, making it the country with the third-largest number of fatalities: For months, President Vladimir Putin has boasted about Russia’s low fatality rate from the virus, saying earlier this month that it had done a “better” job at managing the pandemic than Western countries: But since early in the pandemic, some Russian experts have said the government was playing down the country’s outbreak: On Monday, Russian officials admit that is true:

#Coronavirus Report: Putin denies level of fatalities but on Monday Russian officials say they are three-times-higher than reported according to stats agency

The Rosstat statistics agency says that the number of deaths from all causes recorded between January and November had risen by 229,700 compared to the previous year: “ More than 81 percent of this increase in mortality over this period is due to Covid,” says Deputy Prime Minister Tatiana Golikova, meaning that over 186,000 Russians have died from #COVID19

Speaking to journalists after the announcement, Deputy Prime Minister Tatiana Golikova added that “more than 81% of this increase in mortality over this period is due to Covid and the consequences of the disease.” This would place estimates for the number of coronavirus deaths at around 186,000, rather than initial estimates of just over 55,000: While there are different methods for determining the deaths unleashed by the virus, comparing excess numbers over different years is thought to be among the most accurate: It hands Russia a grisly podium place in the pandemic, with the world’s third-largest known death toll behind the US and Brazil: But, when different population sizes are accounted for, the country’s mortality rate appears more in keeping with comparable nations, many of which pursued costly second and third lockdowns: https://t.me/AceBreakingNews/2179149
