He went to find her at a different address but mistakenly broke into a student house where he smashed a window and threatened two students with a gun: We circulated Doherty’s image as wanted, and while he was on the run trying to evade capture, he dragged a member of the public out of their car, hit them over the head with a firearm and drove off in their vehicle: He was arrested by a dog handler as he tried to run away from the scene of a burglary in the Tile Hill area of Coventry.

Doherty was identified in an ID parade and phone evidence linked him to the crime scenes. His DNA was found on a drinks bottle inside the stolen car and blank firing rounds were found at an address he’d been staying at: Even after the offences he continued to message his ex-partner with threats: In light of the mounting evidence against him, Doherty had no choice but to plead guilty to two counts of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, breach of a non-molestation order, robbery and dangerous driving:

Detective Chief Inspector Dave Sproson from the public protection unit, said: “I’d like to thank the victims and witnesses in this case for coming forward and working with us throughout the investigation: “ Together with CCTV, forensic and phone evidence, Doherty was faced with no other choice than to plead guilty and accept responsibility for his crimes: “ The sheer level of violence used by Doherty was shocking. I am pleased with the sentence delivered by the court which sends a strong message to those who think it is acceptable to use serious violence.” Domestic abuse or violence is a crime and should be reported to the police.
