An elderly couple reportedly live in the house and were rescued.
Seven people have been rushed to hospital with two seriously injured and a further five with less serious wounds. One person was airlifted from the scene at about 10am.
Footage shows a huge blaze engulfing the house as officers attempt to keep bystanders back, while images show others fleeing the fire as neighbours wearing their pyjamas looked on.
Smoke can be seen billowing from the hollowed out home which was was left with no walls and just the chimney remaining.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service said seven fire engines and a height vehicle are currently at the scene as firefighters continue to extinguish the flames. Gas engineers have also been called in.

Sharing footage on Twitter, one local resident wrote: ‘Huge gas explosion on my road, front of the house is completely gone’.
Another local earlier told KentOnline: ‘It looks like just one house is on fire. There is debris absolutely everywhere.’
Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘Crews are working to extinguish any remaining signs of fire following an explosion at a house in Mill View, in Willesborough, Ashford.’
‘Crews are working with Kent Police and SECAmb, including its Hazardous Area Response team, and the air ambulance has also sent two road vehicles to the scene,’ added the spokesperson.
‘Two casualties have been passed into the care of SECAmb.’
Kent Police said it is not yet known what caused the explosion but it is not being treated as suspicious.

‘A number of people were reported to have been trapped in the rubble and were rescued,’ said a spokesperson.
‘Two people sustained serious injuries and were taken to a London hospital. A further five people were treated locally for injuries described as less serious. All residents are now accounted for.
‘The Salvation Army have set up a centre at a local village hall to provide support to those who have been evacuated.’
Kent Police have urged people to stay away from the area, while a number of roads are cordoned off.
The London Air Ambulance was also sent and landed in Hythe Road recreation ground behind the homes in Osborne Road.
A South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) spokesperson said: ‘We can confirm our attendance at an incident in Mill View, Willesborough, Ashford, reported to us shortly before 8am.
‘Ambulance crews including our Hazardous Area Response Team are at the scene with police and fire colleagues.
‘The air ambulance service has also sent two road vehicles to the scene. We are assessing patients at the scene and will issue further details when available.’
