(GRT MANCHESTER) GM POLICE REPORT: Police were called shortly after 5.05pm on Wednesday 26 May to a report of a disturbance involving a group of men at an address on Fifth Avenue, Oldham to a ‘fatal stabbing’ as an investgation is underway #AceNewsDesk report

UPDATE: Investigation into the fatal stabbing of a man in Oldham: Enquiries have since established a blue Vauxhall Corsa pulled onto Fifth Avenue, Oldham and a group of around five males – armed with knives and machetes – exited the vehicle before causing damage to a property’

Emergency services attended and the 25-year-old man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.  

A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, and a 35-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. They have since been released under investigation.

Enquiries are ongoing and officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward and assist police with their investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Butterworh of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “As always, our thoughts are firmly with the family of the young man who has sadly lost his life and our main priority is ensuring we can provide them with the answers they desperately need: Our investigation is progressing at speed but we are confident there are people out there who are holding information that could greatly assist our enquiries: This incident occurred in a built up residential area, in broad daylight, so we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, seen a group of people behaving suspiciously in the area at the time or have dash-cam footage, to get in touch as a matter of urgency: Any information, no matter how small or insignificant you feel it may be, could be vital in ensuring we identify and bring the responsible party to justice.”
