Community Policing Inspector Paul Harrison said: “Although a large number of arrests have been made, we’re still investigating all of these incidents, and keeping an open mind as to whether they are linked and the reasons behind them.

“Anyone in these areas last night who witnessed such violence and anti-social behaviour will have been understandably horrified, and in some cases left in fear for their own safety. I’d like to assure those people that we’re thoroughly investigating and will act upon any information which comes in to assist our work.

“Violence in our communities and against our officers will never be tolerated and we will use all available powers in the coming days to keep the community safe, and will keep you updated as to what further action is taken.

“I’d also urge those with young people in their care to know where your children are and what they are doing. When vehicles are damaged, vital emergency services can be diverted from other serious incidents which also require an immediate response so work with us and pass information on.

“If you have any information, images or footage to assist, please send this to us on the following channels, and be mindful of what you share and discuss on social media.”
