#AceNewsReport – June.16: Three women banged on the doors of a nearby police station and told officers there was a man down the street making threats with a machete: Police arrested a 26-year-old man on suspicion of affray and criminal damage: The incident happened in Strelley Road, Broxtowe Estate, shortly before 10pm on Sunday night.

Superintendent Mathew Healey, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Officers were able to quickly make an arrest in this incident thanks to the bravery of members of the public who took the machete off the man and then held on to him until police arrived: “ Thankfully no one suffered any serious injuries from this incident and the members of the public deserve a huge amount of praise.”It was the first of two incidents that allegedly involved a machete on Sunday night: The other involved a man waving a machete and a bat on the corner of Barnby Gate and Carter Gate in Newark at around 10.40pm: Officers attended and arrested a 39-year-old man on suspicion of possession of a bladed weapon.

Superintendent Healey added: “Anyone who carries or uses a weapon in public in Nottinghamshire can expect to find themselves before the court: I would urge anyone who is aware of people carrying weapons to report it so we can quickly take weapons out of their hands and keep our communities safe.”101 is the number to call when you need to contact Nottinghamshire Police and it’s less urgent than a 999 call.
