#AceDailyNews Court Report: A man who left toddler with brain damage jailed for 16 years: Michael Aubrey was jailed at Coventry Crown Court yesterday (Thursday 25 November) after previously pleading guilty to wounding with intent.

CASE COURT NOTES:

The 34-year-old hasn’t revealed how the 14-month-old boy was left with permanent brain damage or why he did it:

The boy, who had been left in the care of Aubrey at a house in Nuneaton in March 2018, was discovered by his mother when she returned home from work. He was unconscious and fitting on the floor:

The boy was rushed to hospital where doctors raised concerns the injuries were not accidental and Aubrey was questioned: A medical report established the child had been violently shaken and had his head hit off a wall:

Aubrey was the only person in the house at the time the injuries were caused and fell under suspicion and was eventually charged with wounding the boy.

He denied causing the injuries until the day before his trial when he finally pleaded guilty to wounding with intent.

Aubrey, of Kenwyn Green, Exhall was also convicted of assaulting and theft from a woman in Leamington in 2019.

He will have to serve an additional five years on licence after being released from prison.

Detective Constable Dave Moorman said:

” Aubrey is quite clearly an evil man who has caused horrific life-changing injuries to a defenceless toddler. He has shown no remorse for his actions and provided no answers to the victim’s family.

“This was a complex and emotive case for everyone involved and I hope the victim’s family can take some comfort from the conviction and the length of the prison sentence handed down to Aubrey. They have shown great bravery through this investigation and I would like to thank them for the support they have shown in helping send a very dangerous man to prison.”
