In the end, superior firepower in the form of tanks, artillery and airstrikes would propel Syrian troops to overrun all militant defense lines and strong-points within the town…….By this advance, the Syrian Army virtually isolated the towns of An-Nashabiyah and Hazrama from all other militant-held areas within East Ghouta and de facto split to the insurgent pocket into two……..However, when the Syrian Army entered An-Nashabiyah and Hazrama, it found the towns to be completely bereft of insurgent fighters who had fled both settlements in the final hours of the Uataya battle to avoid being encircled:

FRANCE: God Moves In Mysterious Ways as Syrian soapmaker who fled #Aleppo after the factory he worked in was #bombed has set up shop in a Paris suburb, reviving a tradition he says dates back 3,000 years – @AceNewsServices

#AceNewsReport – Dec.26: Hassan Harastani left Syria in 2012, first for Lebanon and then two years later moving to France at the invitation of Samir Constantini, a Franco-Syrian doctor who was already importing the distinctive Aleppo soap Reuters reported on Monday …
?m=02&d=20161226&t=2&i=1166739685&w=&fh=545px&fw=&ll=&pl=&sq=&r=LYNXMPECBP0AN

“In Aleppo, this type of soap was manufactured maybe 3,000 years ago,” said Harastani, who markets his version – which he sells on the internet and through a shop in Angers in western France – under the brand name Alepia.

The soap is made from olive and laurel oil and water, with sodium hydroxide added to harden the mixture. It is cut by hand and left to dry for up to three years before being sold in bars weighing around 200 gramme (7 ounce).

“Aleppo is stricken, people are outside in the streets, they don’t have homes… (This) is a way for us to continue to perpetuate tradition,” Constantini said.

#SYRIA Battle for #Aleppo A new round airstrikes this week that closed all hospitals, #killed nearly 300 people, and injured almost 1,000 more in the besieged, rebel-held area it is believed to have included a chlorine gas attack – @AceNewsServices

#AceNewsReport – Nov.20: A new round of Russian and Syrian airstrikes this week that closed all hospitals, #killed nearly 300 people, and injured almost 1,000 more in the besieged, rebel-held area of eastern Aleppo, Syria, is believed to have included a chlorine gas attack.

The chemical weapon, dropped in a barrel bomb by a helicopter, is responsible for the death of a family of six, the Aleppo Media Center activist group reported.

CNN said later they were not able to independently verify the report, but a United Nations investigation in August found the Syrian government twice used chlorine gas as a weapon while Islamic State militants used mustard gas at least once.

The United States condemned “in the strongest terms these horrific attacks” in a statement Saturday, and on Sunday, the Syrian government rejected a UN proposal for an #Aleppo truce.

IRAQ: ‘ SYRIAN AIR FORCE DESTROY TWO OF THE THREE JETS SEIZED BY ISLAMIC STATE ‘

#AceWorldNews – IRAQ – October 22 – The Syrian Air Force has destroyed two of three jets seized by the Islamic State (IS) group last week, the information minister in Damascus said.

Omran al-Zoubi said on television that Syrian aircraft bombed the jets as they were landing at Jarrah airbase in the eastern countryside of Aleppo province.

The militants were able to hide a third jet, which the Syrian Air Force is now searching for, AP quoted the minister as saying.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights had reported that IS militants flew three MiG fighter jets over the air base with the help of former Iraqi air force pilots.

` Syrian One-Sided Presidential Election Starts Amid Cries from Critics of it Being a Sham ‘

#AceWorldNews – DAMASCUS (SANA)- Presidential candidate Dr. Bashar al-Assad cast a vote Tuesday morning at Martyr Ma’asarani School polling centre in Damascus.

(BBC) – President Bashar al-Assad is widely expected to win a third seven-year term in office.

As Syria’s presidential election candidates started their campaign in the country, critics of the Syrian government have denounced the election as a sham.

The event comes after Supreme Constitutional Court issued the final list of candidates on May 10.

Maher Abdul-Hafiz Hajjar, lawmaker from Aleppo, Hassan Abdullah al-Nouri, lawmaker from Damascus, and Bashar Hafez al-Assad, incumbent president, are three candidates for June’s presidential election.

(Posters of candidates and their slogans are also visible all around the capital, Damascus)

(PressTV) – Under the Syrian law, each candidate needs to secure the support of 35 lawmakers in the 254-member parliament as each MP is allowed to back one candidate.

The vote must take place between 60 and 90 days before President Assad’s seven-year term comes to an end on July 17.

Damascus has insisted that it would hold the vote despite the foreign-backed militancy that has plagued the Arab country for more than three years.

Last month, Syria dismissed Western and opposition accusations regarding the presidential election, saying that it is planning to hold a free and transparent vote.

Syria has been gripped by deadly violence since March 2011.

Over 150,000 people have reportedly been killed and millions displaced due to the violence fuelled by the foreign-backed militants.

` Syrian Rebel Rocket Fire Kills Fifty People Just as Thousands Plan to Return to their Homes '

#AceNewsServices – BEIRUT (Reuters) – Syrian rebel rocket fire on government-controlled areas of Aleppo killed 50 people over the weekend, a monitoring group said on Monday, the eve of an election in which rebels have warned they will step up attacks on state targets.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the death toll from the attacks by the Islamist rebels included nine children.

Another 13 people were killed overnight when President Bashar al-Assad’s forces dropped four barrel bombs – crude explosives which cause widespread damage – from helicopters into rebel-held districts of the city, the UK-based Observatory said.

Fighting in Aleppo, which was Syria’s commercial hub before the three-year conflict erupted, has escalated in recent weeks after Assad’s forces consolidated their control in central Syria and the last rebels retreated from the centre of the city of Homs.

(SOHR) – Thousands of Syrians have returned to war-battered parts of the central city of Homs, many making plans to move back as opposition activists expressed bitterness over the oppositions’ surrender of their strongholds to pro-government forces and vowed they will return.

The homecoming came as rival jihadi factions fought deadly battles to the east in an oil-rich region bordering Iraq, the latest clashes between groups trying to overthrow the central government in Damascus.

Residents from Homs’ smashed ancient quarters scavenged what they could from their homes, mostly clothes, dusty mattresses and some burned gas canisters, carrying them away in plastic bags and trolleys.

“My house was completely destroyed and burnt, but I found some photos,” said Sarmad Mousa, 49, a resident of the old Hamidiyeh district. “They will remain a memory for me of the beautiful days we had here.”

Some accused oppositions of looting and burning their homes.

Smaller crowds made the journey Friday.

` Al-Qaeda Linked Nursa Front Orders its Members to Use Chemical Weapons Against Syrian Army '

#AceNewsServices – TEHRAN (FNA)- The al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front ordered its members to use chemical weapons against the Syrian army and the people who stand against them.

In the last 24 hours, al-Qaeda offshoot in Syria, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL or ISIS), executed a teenager accused of robbery in the Eastern city of Deir Ezzur without trial.

Elsewhere, the Syrian army targeted insurgents’ concentration centres and hideouts in several areas in Idlib countryside, killing and wounding tens of rebels.

Army soldiers targeted the militants’ hideouts in Khan Shaikhoun district in Idlib, North Western Syria, killing 56 and rounding a large number of them.

The Syria Human Rights Watch quoted locals in Old Aleppo as saying that the sound of a strong blast was heard in the region on Saturday.

Elsewhere, the media affiliated to the Syrian opposition reported yesterday that retired Lebanese singer Fadel Shaker who had recently turned Salafi was killed in Deir Ezzur.

In the last 24 hours, units of the Syrian armed forces crushed more intrusion attempts by foreign-backed insurgents in several regions as the nation’s enthusiasm for the upcoming presidential election grows.

On Saturday operations, vigilant government troops killed 11 insurgents affiliated with the notorious al-Nusra Front terrorist group in Khan Sheikhoun area of Idlib countryside, the Syrian state news agency reported.

This is while an army unit targeted insurgent hideouts in Murek town in the outskirts of Hama, killing and injuring numerous militants and destroying their armed vehicles.

Citing a military source, the news agency added that the operation also led to the killing of the leader of the so-called Jabhat al-Islam terrorist group Khaled Sarhan al-Jasem as well as an al-Nusra Front commander identified as Ahmad Ibrahim al-Kadeh.

Elsewhere in Syria’s North Western city of Aleppo, twenty people were killed in the mortar attacks carried out by foreign-backed militants.

` Reporter Working to Tell the Story of Aleppo’s Civilians Is Kidnapped and Beaten ‘

#AceNewsServices – SYRIA – May 19 – The Times reporter Anthony Loyd has told the BBC how he was betrayed by a rebel gang in Syria who beat him badly and shot him twice in the ankle.

Loyd and Hill Kidnap

Loyd and photographer Jack Hill were returning to Turkey from the Syrian city of Aleppo when they were seized.

He described how the leader of the kidnap gang, a man called Hakim, was someone who had previously helped him and whom he had reason to trust.

Loyd was eventually freed when a leader of Islamic Front rebels intervened.

The reporter, 47, told the Today programme how he, the photographer and their Syrian fixer, Mahmoud, were taken from their vehicle while travelling towards the Turkish border.

They were first taken to the basement of an agricultural building outside the town of Azaz, where they were put in hoods, plasticuffs and blindfolded.

After about an hour they were moved to a lock-up garage near a neighbouring town.

It was at this point that Loyd understood his captors’ motives.

“They were laughing and saying ‘How much do you think you’re worth?'” he said. “It was very clear it was an abduction for money.”

Violent struggle

Not long afterwards, the fixer, Mahmoud, who was still in the boot of the car they had been brought in, managed to free himself from his plasticuffs.

“The key to our liberty was the decision of Mahmoud… to kick that boot open, leap out and attack the guard.

Jack Hill Photgrapher

“Hill [who was also still in the boot] followed him out, a violent struggle ensued with the guard and they then ran.

“I suddenly heard a voice in the distance shouting ‘run’. So I flipped up my blind, saw I was alone in the lock-up and at that moment chose to run up the stairs and escape across the roofs.

Mahmoud managed to get away and, says Loyd, “from that point on, it became very difficult for the kidnap gang to continue with the plans they had for us”.

Loyd says that as he fled over the rooftops he saw Hill on the ground below, being beaten by Hakim “who until that morning had been our host and someone we had known for a long time over a two-and-a-half year period”.

Says Loyd: “At that moment it was an awful realisation that the one person in this group we thought might have come to look for us, to help us, was in fact our abductor.

` Last Rebels Leave ` City of Homs ‘ Handing a Symbolic Victory to Assad Before Start of Election ‘

#AceWorldNews – HOMS – May 09 – The last rebels were leaving the centre of the battleground city of Homs on Thursday, handing a symbolic victory to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad ahead of a controversial election.

Rebels hit back in the historic heart of Aleppo, blowing up a luxury hotel-turned-army position after tunnelling under the front line which divides the main city of northern Syria.

At least 14 soldiers and pro-government militiamen were killed in the explosion and its aftermath, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

Around 1,000 rebel fighters have left the Old City of Homs under the unprecedented negotiated evacuation that began Wednesday, according to figures given to AFP by provincial governor Talal Barazi.

But seven buses carrying the last 300 fighters were stopped because militant fighters were refusing to allow food supplies into two rebel-besieged Shiite towns in Aleppo province, the Observatory said.

Barazi said they were stopped at the northern exit from the Old City, without giving a reason.

` Rebel Forces Prevent Aid Convoy from Preventing from Entering Villages of Nubi and Zahraa in Aleppo ‘

#AceWorldNews – BEIRUT – May 07 – Exhausted and worn out from a year-long siege, hundreds of Syrian rebels on Wednesday left their last remaining bastions in the heart of the central city of Homs under a cease-fire deal with government forces.

The exit of some 1,200 fighters and civilians will mark a de facto end of the rebellion in the battered city, which was one of the first places to rise up against President Bashar Assad’s rule, earning it the nickname of “capital of the revolution.”

Gaining full control of Syria’s third largest city is a major win for Assad on multiple levels. Militarily, it solidifies the government hold on a swath of territory in central Syria, linking the capital Damascus with government strongholds along the coast and giving a staging ground to advance against rebel territory further north.

It cited Al-Jadeed television as saying that an aid convoy was prevented from entering the villages of Nubl and Zahraa in Aleppo. The two Shia villages are besieged by rebel forces, and the deal to evacuate the rebels in Homs was contingent on aid being allowed into the villages.

The convoy had been stopped by an Islamist brigade, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Politically, gains on the ground boost Assad’s hold on power as he seeks to add a further claim of legitimacy in presidential elections set for June 3.
