BAGHDAD: ‘ Islamic State claim responsibility for Suicide Bombing Killing 100-People ‘

#AceNewsReport – IRAQ:July.25: Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) militants claimed responsibility on Thursday for a suicide car bombing in Baghdad that killed at least 100 people the day before.

The explosion occurred in a mainly Shiite Muslim district in the Iraqi capital.

The Sunni militant group posted a statement online saying it had targeted a security checkpoint in the al-Shurta al-Rabaa neighborhood, Reuters reported.

Under questioning by a federal prosecutor, Brazhnikov admitted that between January 2008 and June 2014, he conspired to export 1,900 shipments of high-tech electronics components valued at $65 million to Russian defense contractors who supply Russian military and security forces.

“As he admitted in court, Brazhnikov was responsible for nearly 2,000 illegal shipments of regulated, sensitive electronics components, many of which wound up in the hands of Russian military and security forces,” Fishman said.

Brazhnikov admitted concealing the actual contents of the shipments, which were, in several instances, sent to the addresses of vacant apartments in Moscow.

Brazhnikov is a US citizen who has been in the country since the age of 22. He owned microelectronic exports companies in Carteret, Mountainside, Union and Manalapan.

He lives in Mountainside with his wife and two daughters.

His attorney, Jack Arsenault, said his client was enlisted by his father of the same name. He said his father, who is in Russia and has not been charged, turned his back on his son after his arrest in June 2014.

JERUSALEM (AP) – An expected White House decision to send several hundred more troops to Iraq to expand training of Iraqi forces in Anbar province is not a shift in U.S. strategy but is aimed at helping Iraq retake the provincial capital, Ramadi, and eventually blunt the Islamic State’s battlefield momentum.

‘ ISLAMIC STATES REIGN OF TERROR SWEEPS OVER IRAQ EXECUTING ANYONE WHO RESISTS ‘

#AceNewsServices – November 02 – Islamic State militants executed 85 members of the Albu Nimr tribe in Anbar Province to the west of Iraqi capital Baghdad in a terror campaign to break their resistance to the Islamic State (IS).

'Islamic State execute 85 tribesmen in Iraq '

‘Islamic State execute 85 tribesmen in Iraq ‘

Fifty members of the Albu Nimr tribe were killed on Friday, when tribesmen attempted to flee the site they had been defending for weeks, but had run low on ammunition, fuel and food, one of the tribe’s chiefs, Sheikh Naeem al-Ga’oud, told Reuters.

Later, a mass grave with 35 bodies of civilians was found in the same area, a security official revealed.

Since the Islamic State terror campaign against tribes began in the middle of the last week, over 300 people have been executed.

They were shot at close range and dumped in mass graves, Ga’oud and security officials said.

The Albu Nimr tribe has been asking the central government for weapons and military help to fight the jihadists, but official Baghdad sent neither weapons nor troops to rescue Albu Nimr or other tribes, al-Ga’oud revealed.

BAGHDAD: ‘ JIHADISTS FROM ISLAMIC STATE EXECUTE MORE THAN FORTY ALBU NIMR TRIBE – REPORTS’

#AceWorldNews – BAGHDAD – Jihadists from the Islamic State group executed Wednesday more than 40 members of a tribe that fought against them in Iraq’s Anbar province, sources said.

' JIHADISTS FROM ISLAMIC STATE EXECUTE MORE THAN FORTY ALBU NIMR TRIBE '

‘ JIHADISTS FROM ISLAMIC STATE EXECUTE MORE THAN FORTY ALBU NIMR TRIBE ‘

The men from the Albu Nimr tribe were killed in the Heet area, northwest of Baghdad, which was overrun by the militants earlier this month, a local leader and a doctor said.

A police colonel and a leader from the anti-jihadist Sahwa forces confirmed the killings.

Sources differed on the exact number of dead, with some saying as many as 48 were killed.

IS has overrun large areas of Anbar, and the killings are likely aimed at discouraging resistance from powerful local tribes, who will be key to any successful bid to retake the province.

Pro-government forces have suffered a string of setbacks in Anbar in recent weeks.

That has prompted warnings that the province, which stretches from the borders with Jordan and Saudi Arabia to the western approach to Baghdad, could fall entirely.

Images said to show the aftermath of the public execution circulated on Twitter, but their authenticity could not be independently confirmed.

BAGHDAD: ‘ ISLAMIC STATE KILL THIRTY MEN IN LATEST MASS KILLING ‘

#AceWorldNews – BAGHDAD – October 29 – Islamic State group militants lined up 30 men in western Iraq and shot them dead Wednesday, an official and residents said, the latest mass killing carried out by the group since its advance across the country.

The slayings, on a main street in the al-Bakir district in the town of Hit, targeted Sunnis tribal fighters allied with the government and members of the security forces that the extremists captured when they overran the town, the official and the residents said.

The militants first paraded the men through town, shouting through loudspeakers that the captured men were apostates who fought against them, residents said. The extremists then lined up the men and shot them dead with assault rifles, residents said.

A photograph obtained by The Associated Press showed a line of the men’s bodies by a small pool of blood as onlookers walked by.

Anbar provincial council chairman Sabah Karhout said those killed were captured when the Islamic State group overran the town, located about 140 kilometers (85 miles) west of Baghdad, earlier this month.

Karhout called the slayings “a crime against humanity” and demanded more international support for the Sunni tribes fighting the militants in Anbar.

BAGHDAD: ‘ MILITANTS UNLEASH CAR BOMB ATTACKS ON SHIITE COMMUNITY IN WORST VIOLENCE FOR YEARS ‘

#AceWorldNews – IRAQ (Baghdad) – Militants unleashed attacks on Iraq’s majority Shiite community on Monday, killing at least 33 people, the latest in relentless assaults that have challenged the Shiite-led government as it battles the Sunni-led insurgency by the Islamic State group.

A suicide bomber hit a mosque in Baghdad as Shiite worshippers left after noon prayers, killing 17 people, while a triple car bombing in the holy city of Karbala killed 16.

Iraq has been plunged into its worst crisis since the U.S. troops left at the end of 2011 in the wake of the blitz by the Islamic State militants this summer.

The extremists group captured large chunks of land in western and northern Iraq, carving out a proto-state on the  territory it controls between Syria and Iraq and imposing its own harsh interpretation of Islamic law, or Shariah.

Since August, U.S. war-planes have been carrying-out air-strikes against the group as Iraqi and Kurdish security forces work to retake territory it has seized.

In Baghdad, the bomber blew himself up among Shiite worshippers as they were leaving a mosque in a commercial area in the city centre after midday prayers Monday, killing at least 17 people and wounding 28, a police officer said.

In Karbala, three separate car bombs went off simultaneously, killing at least 16 people and wounding 41, another police officer said.

The city, about 90 kilometres (55 miles) south of Baghdad, is home to the tombs of two most revered Shiite imams and the site of year-round pilgrimages.

The explosives-laden cars were parked in commercial areas and parking lots near government offices, the officer added.

Medical officials confirmed the casualty figures.

All officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to talk to media.

BAGHDAD: ‘ CURFEW IMPOSED ON CAPITAL RAMADI OVER FEARS OF ISLAMIC STATE ADVANCE INTO THE CITY’

#AceWorldNews – BAGHDAD – October 17 – Authorities in Iraq’s western Anbar province have imposed a curfew in the capital Ramadi over fears that the Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) might try to advance on the city.

The curfew began at midnight Friday to limit movement in and out of the city, AP quoted Sabah Karhout, the chairman of the Anbar provincial council, as saying.

The IS has been making gains around Ramadi in recent weeks against the Iraqi military, despite the US-led coalition’s airstrikes.

#AceWorldNews – BAGHDAD – October 16 – Iran and Turkey quietly came to the aid of Kurdistan in the war against Islamic State of Iraq and Levant.

“This was a great help for that moment,” Barzani said.

In an interview with Sky News Arabic, Barzani said Iran sent two air transports laden with weapons on the first night of the ISIL offensive against Kurdistan. He did not identify the Iranian equipment.

Later, Barzani said, Turkey began to send weapons to KRG forces. The president said he was asked by the Turkish leadership not to announce Ankara’s assistance.

“Turkey sent [arms] later but asked us not to announce it due to domestic conjuncture,” Barzani said.

BAGHDAD: Triple Suicide Bombing Carried Out By Islamic State Kills Police Chief and Twenty Six Officers ‘

#AceWorldNews – IRAQ (Baghdad) – October 12 – A triple suicide bombing killed 26 Kurdish security forces north-east of Baghdad on Sunday and a roadside bomb killed the police chief of the western Anbar province, dealing major blows to Iraqi security forces struggling to combat the Islamic State extremist group AP reported.

A bomb has killed Brig. Gen. Ahmed al-Dulaimiof, the police chief of Iraqi Anbar province, Councilman Faleh al-Issawi said.

The triple attack took place in Qara Tappah, in the ethnically and communally mixed Diyala province, according to an official from the Kurdish Asayish security forces.

He said the first bomber detonated an explosives vest at the gateway to a security compound that also houses the office of a main Kurdish political party.

Minutes later, two suicide bombers plowed cars filled with explosives into the compound, causing heavy damage.

At least 60 people were wounded in the attack.

The Islamic State extremist group claimed the attack, saying it was carried out by three non-Iraqi jihadists.

The authenticity of the on-line statement could not be independently verified, but it was posted on a Twitter account frequently used by the militant group.

‘ Battle for Baghdad Has Begun with Islamic Fighters On Door-Step with MANPADS Reports ‘

#AceBreakingNews – BAGHDAD – Islamic State’s offensive on the Iraqi capital intensified as the jihadist fighters advanced as far as Abu Ghraib, a suburb only 8 miles away from Baghdad’s international airport.

The outer suburb of Abu Ghraib is also the site of the infamous prison the US military used to humiliate and torture Iraqi detainees.

There are reports by the Iraqi military that the militants are in possession of MANPAD anti-aircraft missiles.

' MANPADS to Shoot Down Enemy Aircraft '

‘ MANPADS to Shoot Down Enemy Aircraft ‘

The short-range, shoulder-fired missiles can shoot down airplanes within a range of 15,000 feet.

The Iraqi military, aided by US military personnel, have so far failed in foiling the advance toward Baghdad of the Islamic State militia (also known as ISIS, or ISIL), which has expanded its control of huge swathes of Iraq and Syria despite the increase in US-led air-strikes.

A total of 60,000 Iraqi soldiers are assigned to defend the capital, alongside 12 teams of American advisors, an Iraqi officer told CBS News.

Meanwhile, undercover IS militants active within Baghdad are setting off bombs and carrying out attacks.
Swift advances have also been by the jihadist militia in Anbar, where Iraqi officials have made an open plea for military aid, warning the city will soon fall to IS.

The situation in Anbar, a town due west of Baghdad, is “fragile” a US official told AFP. IS has seized army bases in Anbar province, and has been shelling the provincial capital, Ramadi, 75 miles (120 kilometers) from Baghdad.

CNN reported that Iraqi troops in Anbar are in danger of being bottlenecked, citing a senior US defense official.

“We do see ISIL continue to make gains in Anbar province and [are] mindful of how Anbar relates to the security of Baghdad,” another senior US defense official said.

Anbar province is home to Iraq’s second biggest dam at Haditha, a major source of water and electrical power.

The dam is currently controlled by Iraqi forces, and US airstrikes have targeted IS forces in the area .

IRAQ: ‘ Reports from the Front-Line Against Islamic State’

#AceWorldNews – IRAQ – October 04  – The Iraqi army has recaptured the town of Dhuluiya, located about 75 kilometres north of Baghdad, after numerous attacks by Islamic State (IS) insurgents, who are in control of large swathes of northern Iraq, Reuters reports.

The rare victory for the Iraqi army was partly brought about by the help of the influential Sunni al-Jubouri tribe, which has fought against IS militants with the support of Shiite fighters from a neighbouring town.

But in other Sunni towns north of Baghdad, IS militants have aligned with local militias who distrust Iraq’s Shiite-led government.

US-led forces have started bombing IS targets in Iraq and Syria in the hope that this will help government and Kurdish forces in Iraq and moderate Sunnis in Syria recapture territory seized by the Islamic State.

IRAQ: ' Islamic State Militants Carried-Out Atrocities of 'Unimaginable Scale ' and Should be Constituted as War Crimes'

#AceNewsServices (Exclusive) – IRAQ (Baghdad) – September 02 – Twelve people have been killed and 41 others were injured after two cars exploded in Iraq’s capital Baghdad, local media reported. Though this is just the tip of the iceberg and as recent reports confirm the numbers killed, maimed and sexually abused or displaced are growing daily.

The blasts took place five minutes apart in the south-western part of the city. Both vehicles used in the bombing were parked at the intersection of 20th and 30th streets in the al-Amil area.

The number of victims could rise, radio station Shafak FM cited a police spokesperson as saying. Iraq has been fighting off the attacks of Islamic State (IS), Sunni extremist group, since June.

The group has gained control over large parts of the country in the north, with a goal of taking over Baghdad. Earlier on Monday, the UN mission to the country said that at least 1,420 people have been killed and 1370 injured in violence in Iraq during August.

The figures did not include Anbar province.

Islamic State militants have carried out atrocities on “an unimaginable scale” over several months of fighting in Iraq, a UN official said in an emergency debate Monday. The UN agreed to send a commission to the country to investigate.

The UN Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights, Flavia Pansieri, who opened the debate in Geneva, said there is “strong evidence” that Islamic State (IS), formerly known as ISIS, groups have carried out numerous atrocities including killings, beheadings, torture, sexual abuse and conversions.

The reports we have received reveal acts of inhumanity on an unimaginable scale. Systematic and intentional attacks on civilians may constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity. Individuals, including commanders, are responsible for these acts,” she said.

Pansieri added that she was particularly concerned with the persecution of Iraq’s religious minorities including the Shia, Yazidis, Christians and Turkmen.

These communities have lived side by side, on the same soil, for centuries and in some cases for millennia,” she said, adding that IS has carried out ethnic and religious cleaning.

The Yazidis have suffered extremely harshly under IS. Many men who refused to convert to Islam were reportedly executed and at least 2,250 Yazidi women and children are being held as hostage, while others are used as sex slaves.

She added that Iraqi police and government forces had also committed acts that amounted to war crimes.
Government allied militias opened fire on a mosque in Khanaquin district north east of Baghdad, killing 73 men and boys and Iraqi police executed a number of detainees in Tal Afar.

Iraqi forces have also shelled towns and carried out airstrikes near Kirkuk, Fallujah, and Salahuddin, which killed and injured dozens of civilians.

The one day UN session was called by Iraq with the support of its allies and agreed to a request by Baghdad to send a team of UN experts to investigate the crimes committed since IS swept through Iraq in June.

Mohammad Shia al-Sudani, Iraq’s Human Rights Minister, told the session that IS was “oozing with barbarity” and threatened the make-up of his country and the entire world, but did not respond to allegations of atrocities carried out by Iraqi troops.

The Sunni Muslim Gulf states as well as the West have all denounced IS, although they bear some of the responsibility for its rapid rise to dominance for indirectly helping to create a situation in Iraq and to a lesser degree Syria, where such an organization could thrive.

' ISIL Militants Have Executed Iraqi Soldiers En-Masse in City of Tikrit '

#AceWorldNews – IRAQ (Tikrit) – June 28 – Human Rights Watch (HRW) says militants from the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) have executed Iraqi soldiers en masse this month.

The Takfiri militants in mid-June uploaded photos of what they claimed to be the bodies of dozens of Iraqi security forces whom they had executed in the city of Tikrit.

The HRW said in a Thursday statement that the analysis of the photographs and satellite imagery strongly indicates that the militant group “conducted mass executions in Tikrit after seizing control of the city on June 11, 2014.”

The human rights organization said the death toll was between 160 and 190 people in at least two locations between June 11 and June 14. The ISIL had claimed to have killed 1,700 soldiers in Tikrit.

The HRW further said that the number of the victims could be much higher than the bodies it found, with its emergencies director Peter Bouckaert noting, “The photos and satellite images from Tikrit provide strong evidence of a horrible war crime that needs further investigation.”

The organization has located two of the trenches filled with bodies through cross-checking against ground features and landmarks in the photographs posted online by the ISIL terrorists. A third trench could not be located.

“Murder, when systematic or widespread and committed as part of a deliberate policy of an organized group, can be a crime against humanity,” the HRW stressed.

(Baghdad) – Analysis of photographs and satellite imagery strongly indicates that the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) conducted mass executions in Tikrit after seizing control of the city on June 11, 2014.

The analysis suggests that ISIS killed between 160 and 190 men in at least two locations between June 11 and 14.

The number of victims may well be much higher, but the difficulty of locating bodies and accessing the area has prevented a full investigation, Human Rights Watch said.

‘ Iraq Crisis Escalates and a US Official Confirms Armed American Drones Started Flying Over Baghdad ‘

#AceWorldNews – IRAQ (Baghdad) – June 27 – The Iraq crisis escalated Friday a U.S. official confirmed to CNN that armed American drones started flying over Baghdad in the previous 24 hours to provide additional protection for 180 U.S. military advisers in the area.

Until now, U.S. officials had said all drone reconnaissance flights over Iraq were unarmed.

Using the drones for any offensive strikes against insurgent Islamic State in Iraq and Syria fighters would continue to require approval from U.S. President Barack Obama.

The news came on the same day that Human Rights Watch said two mass graves believed to contain the bodies of Iraqi soldiers, police and civilians killed by the Sunni ISIS fighters and their militant allies have been discovered in Saddam Hussein’s home-town of Tikrit.

Claims of atrocities by both sides have increased as the conflict widens in Iraq.

‘ Iran’s President Vows to Defend Shiite Holy Sites in Iraq and US Support Their Oil Interests ‘

#AceNewsServices – IRAN (Tehran) – June 18 – Iran‘s president vowed on Wednesday to defend Shi’ite holy sites in Iraq, where Sunni militants battled their way into the biggest oil refinery in what is rapidly turning into a sectarian war across the frontiers of the Middle East.

(Iran’s President vows to Protect Shiite Holy Sites in Iraq)

Sunni fighters were in control of three quarters of the territory of the Baiji refinery north of Baghdad, an official said there, after a morning of heavy fighting at gates defended by elite troops under siege for a week.

(Fighting for Justice or Oil)

A lightning advance has seen Sunni fighters rout the Shi’ite-led government’s army and seize the main cities across the north of the country since last week.

The fighters are led by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant which aims to build a caliphate ruled on mediaeval precepts, but also include a broad spectrum of more moderate Sunnis furious at what they see as oppression by Baghdad.

Iraq Preparing for Holy War as US Protects their Financial Interests)

Washington and other Western capitals are trying to save Iraq as a united country by leaning hard on Shi’ite Prime Minister to reach out to Sunnis. Maliki met Sunni and Kurdish political opponents overnight, concluding with a frosty, carefully-staged joint appearance at which an appeal for national unity was read out.

But so far Maliki’s government has relied almost entirely on his fellow Shi’ites for support, with officials lashing out at Sunni political leaders as traitors.

Extra-legal Shi’ite militia – many believed to be funded and backed by Iran – have mobilized to halt the Sunni advance, as Baghdad’s million-strong army, built by the United States at a cost of $25 billion, crumbles.
