` Votes are in as People Turned out in their Droves with 97.5% for Independence ‘

#AceWorldNews – SLOVIANSK – In the town of Sloviansk as many as 97.5% of those who participated in last Sunday’s referendum voted for the state independence of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), the head of the territorial election commission, Vilia Bakhtashevich told ITAR-TASS.

The official said the turnout for the referendum was as high as 72.1% (72,575 residents of the town besieged by the Ukrainian forces, and 70,743 of them supported the state independence act of the DPR).

On Sunday the polling stations in Sloviansk had to stay open longer than expected, till 22:00 despite the night-time curfew effective from 20:00.

The Luhansk region has processed the results of the May 11 referendum on self-rule. Around 96.2% of people voted in favor of independence, spokesman for Luhansk’s press service Valery Nikitin told ITAR-TASS on Monday.

The people in the Luhansk region were asked the only question at the referendum: “Do you support the independence of the Luhansk People’s Republic?” Nikitin said that 96.2% of voters answered “yes”, 3.2% said “no”, and 0.74% of ballot papers were found invalid.

Earlier, the Central Election Commission of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic reported that the turnout at the referendum stood at 81%. Around 1.6 million voters are registered in the Luhansk region.

` Almost 90 Percent of Voters in Donestsk Region Endorse Political Independence ‘

#AceWorldNews – UKRAINE – DONETSK – Almost 90 percent of voters in Donetsk Region have endorsed political independence from Kiev, the head of the Central Election Commission of the self-proclaimed ‘Donetsk People’s Republic’, Roman Lyagin, announced.

Counting the ballots proved to be surprisingly easy – the number of people who said ‘no’ was relatively small and there appeared to be only a tiny proportion of spoiled ballots, so we managed to carry out counting quite fast. The figures are as follows: 89.07 percent voted ‘for’, 10.19 percent voted ‘against’ and 0.74 percent of ballots were rendered ineligible,” Lyagin told journalists.

In Lugansk Region 96.2 percent of voters supported the region’s self-rule, according to the final figures announced by the local election commission.
