UKRAINE: POROSHENKO INTRODUCES BILL TO REVOKE NON-BLOC STATUS

#AceWorldNews – UKRAINE:Dec.18 – Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has introduced a bill to revoke Ukraine’s non-bloc status, the president’s website says.

At present, the law on exterior and interior policies states the country cannot be a member of any military-political blocs such as NATO.

Such a status cannot guarantee the entity of the country any more, the president said in Warsaw on Wednesday, promising to submit the bill to the Ukrainian parliament.

WASHINGTON: ‘ HOUSE & SENATE RACE TO COMPLETE $1 TRILLION SPENDING BILL ‘

#AceNewsServices – WASHINGTON:Dec.09 – House and Senate negotiators on Monday were racing to finish a $1 trillion spending bill so lawmakers have enough time to vote on the package and avert a looming government shut down on Friday.

Appropriators were still aiming to unveil the bill by late Monday night, but aides said it’s possible that timetable could slip until Tuesday, which could complicate the House and Senate’s efforts to end the lame-duck session this week.

For Republicans drafting a massive spending bill for the end of the congressional session, timing is everything.

GOP leaders, who want to pass the sweeping year-end spending package on Wednesday, must release the proposal on Monday in order to satisfy House rules for bringing legislation to the floor two days after it is released.

WASHINGTON: ‘ SENATOR SAYS IT WOULD BE UNTHINKABLE FOR LAWMAKERS NOT TO PASS DEFENCE BILL ‘

#AceNewsServices – WASHINGTON – Nov.23 – A key Senator said it would be “unthinkable” for House and Senate lawmakers not to pass a defence authorization bill.

“It’d be unthinkable to me that we not pass a bill,” Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin (D-Mich.) told The Hill.

While “there’s always a danger” that differences between negotiators could torpedo a joint bill, the retiring lawmaker said, that would be a “real tragedy, I think, for our troops, and it’d be irresponsible to let that happen.”

Negotiations are stalled on Pentagon proposals that would have service members pay more for healthcare and housing. House lawmakers threw out the suggestions in their draft of the bill, while Senators kept them in their version.

Levin said there are still “a few issues not resolved as of this time” but would not elaborate.

“We’re getting closer if only because we’re getting closer to the end of the week,” he said, adding it was still his hope that a finalized measure could be rolled out and passed by both chambers the first week of December.

WASHINGTON: ‘ CONSERVATIVES PUSH REPUBLICANS TO REPEAL OBAMA CARE ‘

#AceBreakingNews – WASHINGTON – Nov.10 – Conservatives in Washington are adamant that Senate Republicans should pass a full repeal of the healthcare law next year, even it if means a certain veto from President Obama.

With Senate Democrats likely to filibuster any stand-alone repeal bill, conservatives say incoming Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) should use a procedural maneuver known as reconciliation to muscle through a bill with 51 votes.
