(LONDON) MET Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu Statement: Sir Kim Darroch Criminal Investigation launched into alleged leaking of official communications in criminal breaches of the ‘ Official Secrets Act ‘ He also advise all owners, editors, publishers of social and mainstream media not to publish leake d government documents that may already be in their possession, or which may be offered to them, and to turn them over to the police or give them back to their rightful owner, Her Majesty’s Government #AceNew sDesk reports

#AceNewsReport – July.14: Statement from Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu: “Following a cross-government investigation led by the Cabinet Office a Gateway Process has occurred today with the Metropolitan Police into the alleged leaking of official communications involving Sir Kim Darroch: “As a result the Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command, who take national responsibility for investigating allegations of criminal breaches of the Official Secrets Act, has launched a criminal investigation: “Given the widely reported consequences of that leak I am satisfied that there has been damage caused to UK international relations, and there would be clear public interest in bringing the person or people responsible to justice: “The investigation will be reviewed at every stage to ensure a proportionate investigation is undertaken: “I would say to the person or people who did this, the impact of what you have done is obvious. However, you are now also responsible for diverting busy detectives from undertaking their core mission. You can stop this now. Turn yourself in at the earliest opportunity, explain yourself and face the consequences: “Also, to anyone who knows or suspects those responsible, or who has any information, please come forward.

Statement from Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu: “The Metropolitan Police respects the rights of the media and has no intention of seeking to prevent editors from publishing stories in the public interest in a liberal democracy: The media hold an important role in scrutinising the actions of the state: “We are however a body charged with enforcing the law, and we have received legal advice that has caused us to start a criminal enquiry into the leak of these specific documents as a potential breach of the Official Secrets Act (OSA). The focus of the investigation is clearly on identifying who was responsible for the leak: “However, we have also been told the publication of these specific documents, now knowing they may be a breach of the OSA, could also constitute a criminal offence and one that carries no public interest defence: “We know these documents and potentially others remain in circulation: “We have a duty to prevent as well as detect crime and the previous statement was intended to alert to the risk of breaching the OSA.”

“The publication of leaked communications, knowing the damage they have caused or are likely to cause may also be a criminal matter: “I would advise all owners, editors and publishers of social and mainstream media not to publish leaked government documents that may already be in their possession, or which may be offered to them, and to turn them over to the police or give them back to their rightful owner, Her Majesty’s Government.” “Exercise your public and civic duty and call the police on 0800 789321 without delay. That call will be treated in strictest confidence:

(FLORIDA) Court Report: FDIC-OIG, IRS-CI, HSI and FBI Investigation: Jack Kachkar was sentenced to 30yrs for ‘ $100 Million International Fraud Scheme ‘ that led to the collapse of one of Puerto Rico’s largest banks that triggered losses and a series of events leading to Westernbank’s insolvency and ultimate collapse #AceNewsDesk reports

#AceNewsReport – July.10: Jack Kachkar, 56, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Donald L. Graham of the Southern District of Florida, who also presided over the trial in this case: Judge Graham also ordered the defendant to pay $103,490,005 in restitution to the FDIC, as receiver for Westernbank: Kachkar was convicted on Feb. 4, 2019, after a three-week trial, of eight counts of wire fraud affecting a financial institution.

According to evidence presented at trial, from 2005 to 2007, Kachkar served as chairman and CEO of Inyx Inc., a publicly traded multinational pharmaceutical manufacturing company: Beginning in early 2005, Kachkar caused Westernbank to enter into a series of loan agreements in exchange for a security interest in the assets of Inyx and its subsidiaries: Under the loan agreements, Westernbank agreed to advance money based on Inyx’s customer invoices from “actual and bona fide” sales to Inyx customers, the evidence showed.

The trial evidence showed that Kachkar orchestrated a scheme to defraud Westernbank by causing numerous Inyx employees to make tens of millions of dollars worth of fake customer invoices purportedly payable by customers in the United Kingdom, Sweden and elsewhere: Kachkar caused these invoices to be presented to Westernbank as valid invoices. Kachkar made false and fraudulent representations to Westernbank executives about purported and imminent repayments from lenders in the United Kingdom, Norway, Libya and elsewhere in order to lull Westernbank into continuing to lend money to Inyx, the evidence showed: In fact, these lenders had not agreed to repay Westernbank’s loan. Kachkar made false and fraudulent representations to Westernbank executives that he had additional collateral, including purported mines in Mexico and Canada worth hundreds of millions of dollars, to induce Westernbank to lend additional funds, the evidence showed: In fact, this additional collateral was worth barely a fraction of that represented by Kachkar.

During the course of the scheme, Kachkar caused Westernbank to lend approximately $142 million, primarily based on false and fraudulent customer invoices: The evidence showed that the defendant diverted tens of millions of dollars for his own personal benefit, including for the purchase of, among other things, a private jet, luxury homes in Key Biscayne and Brickell, Miami, luxury cars, luxury hotel stays, and extravagant jewelry and clothing expenditures.

In or around June 2007, Westernbank declared the loan in default and ultimately suffered losses exceeding $100 million on the Inyx loans: According to trial evidence, these losses later triggered a series of events leading to Westernbank’s insolvency and ultimate collapse. At the time of its collapse, Westernbank had approximately 1,500 employees and was one of the largest banks in Puerto Rico.

This case was investigated by the FDIC-OIG, IRS-CI, HSI and FBI: The Department of Justice’s Office of International Affairs provided significant support in the investigation: The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael N. Berger of the Southern District of Florida and Trial Attorney Michael O’Neill of the Criminal Division’s Fraud Section: The Department acknowledges and appreciates the substantial assistance of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the U.K. Metropolitan Police.

(BAKER CITY, Ore.) ICE/HSI/ Court Report: Operation Grand Canyon: Shawn Thomas Conaway, 45, was sentenced Monday to 60 months in federal prison for attempted travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct, Special Agent in Charge Brad Bench of ICE’s HSI Seattle Field Office and U.S. Attorney Bart M. Davis a nnounced #AceNewsDesk reports

#AceNewsReport – July.10: BOISE – Shawn Thomas Conaway, 45, of Baker City, Oregon, was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court to 60 months in federal prison for attempted travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct, Special Agent in Charge Brad Bench of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Seattle Field Office and U.S. Attorney Bart M. Davis announced. U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill ordered that Conaway be placed on supervised release for five years following his prison sentence. Conaway pleaded guilty on March 5, 2019.

According to court records, on November 3, 2018, a detective with the Idaho Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force posted an advertisement on Craigslist indicating a man and a woman had an interest in a sexual encounter in exchange for drugs: Conaway responded to the advertisement and communicated with the detective. The detective posed as a 19-year-old male, and as the male’s 15-year-old girlfriend. Conaway proposed having sexual contact with the 15-year-old, and offered to bring “weed and ADHD stuff” for the minor to use.

“Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) urges parents and caregivers to pay close attention to who their children are interacting with online and via phone applications,” said Brad Bench, special agent in charge of HSI Seattle. “We are committed to doing all we can to protect children, but we are asking for your help. Child predators will go to great lengths to exploit children, most often when the children are within the perceived safety of their own homes.” Conaway drove from Baker City to a specified location in Caldwell, Idaho, to meet the minor. Officers arrested Conaway and discovered a bag of marijuana and a prescription bottle containing amphetamine/dextroamphetamine. Conaway admitted traveling across the Oregon/Idaho border in an attempt to meet and have sexual contact with the 15-year-old in exchange for marijuana and ADHD medication.

At sentencing, Judge Winmill also ordered Conaway to forfeit the cellular phone he used in the commission of the offence: As a result of his conviction, Conaway will be required to register as a sex offender: The investigation was part of “Operation Grand Canyon,” a joint state and federal undercover operation conducted in Canyon County, Idaho in November of 2018 to identify individuals predisposed to meet minors for sexual contact. Participating agencies included ICE’s HSI, the Idaho ICAC Task Force, the United States Marshal’s Service, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office, the Caldwell Police Department, the Idaho State Police, the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, the Idaho Attorney General’s Office Special Investigation Unit, the Idaho Criminal Intelligence Center, the United States Postal Inspection Service, the Canyon County Prosecutor’s Office, and the United States Attorney’s Office.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse: As part of Project Safe Childhood, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Idaho and the Idaho Attorney General’s Office partner to marshal federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.

(MASSACHUSETTS) Court Report: 18yr-old Teenager Matthew Borges convicted of beheading a classmate nearly three years ago got life in prison on Tuesday after 16-year-old Lee Manuel Villoria-Paulino body was discovered on the bank of the Merrimack River in December 2016, decapitated and missing his hands #AceNewsDesk reports

#AceNewsReport – July10: Judge Helene Kazanjian handed down two life sentences for Matthew Borges, 18, of Lawrence: It comes less than two months after a jury found him guilty of first-degree murder for the 2016 killing of then-16-year-old Lee Manuel Villoria-Paulino: “There is no sentence I can impose that will bring back Lee Paulino, or that will answer the questions that we all have about how this happened, and how a 15-year-old boy could kill a friend in this manner,” Kazanjian said Tuesday, calling the sentence “appropriate.”Borges, who was brought into the courtroom in handcuffs, maintained a stoic expression throughout the court proceeding, showing no apparent emotion when his sentence was being handed down: Fifteen-years-old at the time of the murder, Borges will serve two life sentences concurrently. He will be eligible for parole after 30 years.

Kazanjian delivered Borges’ sentence after hearing tearful remarks from the mother of Paulino, saying that Borges “should never have the opportunity to kill again, to rob another person of their life: ” “Every day we struggle with the fact that his life was cut too short,” Paulino’s mother said through tears. “We drove ourselves crazy trying to make sense of what had been done.” Several of Paulino’s friends and family were present at court Tuesday, all wearing black T-shirts bearing an image of Paulino’s face.

The mother of Lee Manuel Villoria-Paulino wept as she addressed the judge during the sentencing of Mathew Borges on Tuesday. The mother of Lee Manuel Villoria-Paulino wept as she addressed the judge during the sentencing of Mathew Borges on Tuesday.

Edward Hayden, Borges’ attorney, said that Borges should receive the possibility of parole after 25 years, arguing that Borges was a child at the time of the murder and has potential for rehabilitation………”He is not irredeemably depraved. There is hope for his redemption. He can change his life,” Hayden said…….Hayden did not immediately respond to CNN’s request for further comment after the sentencing.

Paulino’s body was discovered on the bank of the Merrimack River in December 2016, decapitated and missing his hands: During the trial, the prosecution argued that Borges was jealous because Paulino had spent time with his girlfriend. Prosecutors said Borges distracted Paulino to get him out of his house while other teens robbed it, and then killed him: CNN affiliate WCVB reported that medical examiners found 76 wounds on Paulino’s body — and that they were unable to determine whether particular wounds, including his beheading, took place before or after his death.

(LONDON) #RussiaPhobia Again as Foreign Office refuses accreditation for ‘ Media Freedom Conference ‘ to both RT & Sputnik blaming them for misinformation according Ofcom they have committed 7-breaches of the UK’s broadcasting code during its coverage of the Novichok poisoning of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in Salisbury #AceNewsDesk reports

#AceNewsReport – July.09: Russia’s RT and Sputnik news agencies have been banned from attending a conference on media freedom in London for playing an “active role in spreading disinformation” Around 60 ministers and 1,000 reporters and members of civil society are due to attend the event this week: But the UK Foreign Office refused accreditation to both RT and Sputnik: The Russian Embassy called the decision “direct politically motivated discrimination”

A spokeswoman for the Foreign Office, which organised the conference, said: “We have not accredited RT or Sputnik because of their active role in spreading disinformation. While it’s not possible to accommodate all requests for accreditation, journalists from across the world’s media are attending the conference, including from Russia.” The Russian Embassy said it had complained to the Foreign Office over the decision, accusing the UK of a “months-long smear campaign” against RT.

RT said in a statement: “It takes a particular brand of hypocrisy to advocate for freedom of press while banning inconvenient voices and slandering alternative media.”

Sputnik said: “Our goals are clearly indicated in our charter and spreading disinformation is not one of them.”

What’s so different about Russia Today? RT, which is backed by the Russian state and was formerly known as Russia Today, has in recent years increased its coverage of UK and US news, attempting to position itself as an alternative to mainstream media outlets in both countries: In December, the channel was found by UK broadcast regulator Ofcom to have committed seven breaches of the UK’s broadcasting code during its coverage of the Novichok poisoning of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in Salisbury: Ofcom said RT failed to give due weight to a range of voices and called the breaches “a serious failure of compliance” Russian news channel RT broke TV impartiality rules, Ofcom says

The Foreign Office said the international human rights lawyer Amal Clooney would attend this week’s event as Britain’s special envoy on media freedom: The conference will also be attended by government ministers, members of the diplomatic community and academics.
