‘ White House Security Breach as Chief Faces Lawmakers ‘
#AceWorldNews – WASHINGTON – September 30 – Most Washington scandals that end up on Capitol Hill tend to end the same way: with an apology.
Secret Service Director Julia Pierson will face lawmakers Tuesday for the first public accounting of the details surrounding an embarrassing and worrisome security breach at the White House earlier this month that, according to a congressman, was worse than the Secret Service has publicly acknowledged.
The question is, will she follow the script?

NHTSA: ‘ Senate We are Under Staffed and Under Funded to Cope as Watchdog Over GM Debacle ‘
#AceNewsServices – UNITED STATES (Washington) – September 17 – The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found few allies on Capitol Hill Tuesday.
A House committee, a Senate committee, and the Department of Transportation’s inspector general’s office all agreed that the agency does not have the staff it needs to be an effective watchdog over car defects.
Defective ignition switches in GM cars contributed to at least 13 deaths, forced GM to recall more than two million vehicles this year, and led NHTSA to impose a $35 million penalty against GM for failing to promptly report the defects.
Joseph Comé of the Department of Transportation’s Inspector General’s office told a Senate hearing that NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation has yet to finish an assessment to figure out “the number of staff and specialized skills needed” to ensure that it can force carmakers to promptly recall defective vehicles and potentially save lives.
Comé also said the IG’s office is still determining if NHTSA had information on ignition switch problems or non-deploying air-bags in GM cars and simply did not use that information prior to the recalls.

` John Boehner Reportedly Insisted There is No Conspiracy to Push an Immigration Bill Through the House '
#AceNewsServices – UNITED STATES – House Speaker John Boehner reportedly insisted Tuesday there is no “conspiracy” to push an immigration bill through the House – but a top Democrat suggested not only is there a deal in the works, it’s an open secret.
The conflicting messages further blurred the status of immigration talks on Capitol Hill.
Boehner just two months ago appeared to slam the brakes on negotiations altogether, blaming the administration’s failure to enforce existing immigration laws.
But GOP leaders, including Boehner, have signalled lately they’re at least interested in bringing back a bill.
Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer, at an immigration event Monday in New York, went further and seemed to claim a bill is in the works.
(The Hill) – Boehner last week told a home-town Rotary Club in Ohio that many of his colleagues “take the path of least resistance” rather than make hard choices like confronting a broken immigration system.
“Here’s the attitude. ‘Ohhhh. Don’t make me do this. Ohhhh. This is too hard,’” Boehner said in a high-pitched voice, likening his fellow Republicans to a small child.
On Tuesday, meeting with Republicans after they returned from a two-week recess, Boehner told lawmakers it was just a little teasing.
“There was no mocking,” he told reporters at a press conference after the meeting. “You all know me. You tease the ones you love, alright?
But some people misunderstood what I had to say, and I wanted to make sure members understood that the biggest impediment we have to moving immigration reform is that the American people don’t trust the president to enforce or implement the law that we may or may not pass.
“I have said it here; it’s the truth, and the members know it’s the truth,” Boehner added.
The Speaker drew immediate criticism from conservatives in the conference, who suggested they didn’t take his remarks as a joke.
