(LONDON) Croydon Crown Court Report: A dangerous predatory offender who targeted teenage girls and then sexually and physically assaulted them has been jailed #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – Nov.23: After befriending his victims online, he would then exercise coercive control and abuse them physically, sexually and emotionally. Several victims told detectives he used ‘strangle holds’ on them. He broke the finger of one of his victims and bit her so forcefully that a complete mouth impression was left.

#AceDailyNews Court Report: Joshua Plunkett, 25 (27.11.95), of Reginald Road, Lewisham, was sentenced at Croydon Crown Court on Thursday, 18 November to 14-and-a-half years’ imprisonment. He will serve at least eight-and-a-half years of the sentence in prison, with the remainder to be served on licence. He also received a 15 year Sexual Harm Prevention Order(SHPO) and will be on the Sex Offenders Register.

He was convicted at the same court on Friday, 17 September of:

  • Possession of a prohibited image;
– Sexual communications with a child; – Controlling coercive behaviour; – Disclosing private photographs; – Actual bodily harm; – Two counts of sexual activity with a child; – Perverting the course of justice; – Causing a child to watch a sexual act; – Breach of a Sexual Risk Order; – Failing to comply with section 49 of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000.

The court heard that Plunkett targeted five teenage girls aged between 13 and 18, between 2016 and 2020.

After befriending his victims online, he would then exercise coercive control and abuse them physically, sexually and emotionally. Several victims told detectives he used ‘strangle holds’ on them. He broke the finger of one of his victims and bit her so forcefully that a complete mouth impression was left.

Plunkett used coercive control to dominate his vulnerable victims and would publish graphic images of them online to punish them and cause embarrassment if they upset him or tried to break contact.

Even after he was arrested and charged, following a comprehensive investigation by the Met’s Modern Slavery and Child Exploitation Team, his reign of terror did not stop as he sought to intimidate one of his victims while on remand to avoid justice.

Plunkett’s offending began in 2016, then aged 20, when he started an online conversation with [Victim 1] who was 15 at the time. As the victim started to feel Plunkett genuinely liked her, he started to ask her to send him intimate pictures of herself. She told him no because she was not ready and Plunkett responded by sending nasty messages and abusing her via text message. The victim relented and sent him a series of sexual photographs.

In July 2017, Plunkett began a conversation with [Victim 2] who was 13. He asked her how old she was, and she added a year to her true age and responded 14, but that did not deter Plunkett and he sent her a series of sexual messages.

[Victim 3] first met Plunkett through Facebook when she was 15 and they started messaging. They met up in March 2018 when she was 18 and he was 22. As the relationship developed, Plunkett began demanding access to her social media accounts. In May 2018, Plunkett demanded her phone and when she refused he grabbed her around the neck and strangled her. He did the same thing just three weeks later. In June 2018, the victim ended the relationship. This angered Plunkett who logged onto her social media account and was abusive and rude and sent a number of explicit pictures and videos of the two of them engaging in sexual activity to her friends and family. Plunkett’s actions ruined the victim’s modelling career and damaged her self-esteem.

Plunkett met [Victim 4] in 2018 when she was 15 and he had sex with her. In September 2018 the two were play fighting when he deliberately took hold of her finger and tried to snap it, which resulted in a suspected break. While on remand in prison in December 2018, Plunkett persuaded the victim that it was her fault he was still in custody because of what she had said in her police interview. Over the next four weeks or so he made a concerted effort to persuade the victim to retract her account that there had been any sexual element to their relationship. His efforts worked and she withdrew her statement in January 2019. However, after speaking with detectives she thankfully changed her mind and further disclosed the full extent of the abuse in June 2020.

In January 2020, having been released from custody on bail, Plunkett attended [Victim 4]’s home uninvited, giving an excuse that he thought he had taken her keys a couple of weeks earlier. Breaching the Sexual Risk Order that detectives had secured, he entered the victim’s bedroom while she was listening to music and immediately started punching her repeatedly in the face and head, causing her to fall to the floor. He then kicked her in the face and gave her a cut to her forehead which bled profusely. She managed to get slightly towards the door when he pulled her back by her hair – pulling some of it out – and she fell to the floor again where he resumed kicking her. He then took the victim’s mobile phone and bankcard and left the scene. All this was witnessed by her 12-year-old sister.

Plunkett contacted [Victim 5] over Snapchat in September 2019. He told her he was 16, but he was in fact almost 24. The victim told him her true age, 14. Plunkett asked the victim to watch some of his videos on Snapchat story. One of the videos he sent was of him having sex, so the victim blocked him. In the summer of 2020, while on remand for these offences, Plunkett attempted to add the victim as one of the contacts he could phone from prison. He lied to the prison authorities and said she was his 24-year-old cousin, meaning he once again breached his Sexual Risk Order.

Detectives began their investigation into Plunkett in September 2018, and first arrested him in November 2018. He was further arrested another three times throughout 2018 and 2019. It was a complex investigation which involved five victims and offending dating back to 2016. It took eight months of detectives closely working with the victims before the full extent of Plunkett’s abuse came out.

Detectives also worked tirelessly behind the scenes to protect the victims and any potential future ones by doing things such as applying for Sexual Risk Orders, working closely with the prison to gain intelligence and making a Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act application after he refused to provide the PIN for his phone.

Detective Constable Natalie Franklin, the investigating officer from the Met’s Modern Slavery and Child Exploitation Team, said:

” Plunkett is a cruel monster who preyed on young teenage girls. He would make their lives a living nightmare for his own twisted pleasure by abusing them with sexual, physical and emotional violence. He is the personification of violence against women. Even when he was on remand awaiting trial he exercised his control by intimidating one of his victims and making her so fearful that she withdrew her statement.

“This was a complex investigation which involved hundreds of hours of enquiries to be carried out, but we were happy to work around the clock to make sure that Plunkett was brought to justice so he could not hurt and control any more young girls.

“I would like to praise the bravery of Plunkett’s victims who came forward and gave evidence. It cannot have been easy for them to re-live their traumatic ordeals, but their courage resulted in us being able to build a strong case against Plunkett which has resulted in him being put behind bars for a considerable amount of time.”

(CROYDON) Crown Court Report: A former football coach and youth worker has been found guilty of a number of non-recent sexual offences against boys #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – Oct.18: He was found guilty of ten counts of indecent assault on three boys aged 8 to 13, two counts of sexual activity with a boy aged 13 to 15 and two counts of causing the same boy aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity: The first ten offences took place between 1988 and 1995, when Hughes was employed as a youth worker at youth clubs in New Addington and worked as a voluntary football coach. Further offences were committed in 2017 and 2018 independently of his employment….

#AceDailyNews Court Report: Former football coach found guilty of non-recent sexual offences against boys: David Hughes, 66 (26.07.55) of King Henry’s Drive, New Addington, was convicted at Croydon Crown Court of 14 offences against four boys aged between eight and 15.

[Convicted: David Hughes]

CASE NOTES: On three occasions he had bought the boys football tops or football boots before indecently assaulting them. He groomed one boy by treating him to a trip to the cinema to see Jurassic Park in 1993 as well as giving him attention and other gifts. He indecently assaulted another boy while on an organised camping trip: Hughes was arrested on 21 December 2018. He had with him a black holdall with children’s underwear inside. More items of new underwear were found during a search of his address: He was charged on 28 February 2020: Hughes was remanded in custody to be sentenced, provisionally on Thursday, 25 November.

Detective Constable Pete Brewster, from Central Specialist Crime, said: “In committing these offences Hughes demonstrated premeditated, predatory behaviour spanning almost 30 years: Hughes worked as a youth worker and children’s football coach in New Addington throughout the 1980s and 1990s, seeking employment and other opportunities that granted him access to children. He should have been someone the children, and their families, could trust. Hughes betrayed this trust, abusing vulnerable children who described feeling unable, ashamed and embarrassed to tell anyone what he had done to them: Those who suffered at the hands of Hughes in the 1990s describe how his offending continues to affect them today and say their reports to police in 2018 and 2019 were an important step in ‘moving on’ with their lives: It is only through the bravery of all of the victims in this case to report the abuse they suffered and support the police investigation that Hughes has been convicted of these offences: If you have been the victim of abuse, no matter how long ago, please report it to police so we can help you.“

(LONDON) Croydon Crown Court Report: A pensioner who sexual assaulted multiple vulnerable victims for more than 40 years has been jailed #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – Clayton had been convicted at the same court on Friday, 21 May following a trial: The offences, which related to seven male victims, spanned decades. They took place between 1976 and 2017. One of the victims was abused by Clayton for more than 30 years…

#AceDailyNews reports that a 30 year sentence for man who subjected boys and young men to decades of abuse: Nigel Clayton, 73 (18.6.48) of Sutton Common Road, Sutton appeared at Croydon Crown Court on Monday, 6 September where he was sentenced to 30 years’ imprisonment for 31 counts of sexual assault, rape and possessing indecent images.

Jailed: Nigel Clayton

Jailed: Nigel Clayton

The abuse took place at various locations in south London, including one incident at a funeral. Clayton also used the office of a car garage he purported to jointly own to carry out his assaults, even setting up a bed inside.

He used a variety of tactics to gain access to his victims, including persuading a number of them to do odd jobs for him in return for a small amount of money. On other occasions he offered gifts, held debts over them, made threats, and, later on, used physical force.

The victims were all boys or young adults when they were abused. In the majority of cases they had no relationship with their biological father, which Clayton used to his advantage.

He also used lies as a way to try and justify his actions; claiming to be a doctor, saying that he knew about child development, or that he had knowledge of modelling.

In 2016, one of the victims bravely contacted police to report the abuse they had been subjected to. An investigation was launched by detectives from the South Area Safeguarding Unit. As a result of enquiries, the remaining seven victims were identified.

Clayton was arrested in February 2020 and was subsequently charged with various offences.

Detective Constable Candice Burley said: “Clayton is a predatory and manipulative individual who specifically targeted victims he knew to be vulnerable; engineering situations which afforded him close contact with them in order to carry out his abuse: One victim was under his control for more than 30 years, suffering regular sexual assaults. The long term effect of such prolonged abuse is difficult to comprehend: I extend my utmost respect and thanks to all of the victims for their courage in speaking up and ensuring Clayton was brought to justice for his heinous crimes: It is of course possible there are further victims out there and I would urge anyone with information to come forward. You will be supported by specially trained officers who, as this conviction shows, are committed to the investigation of sexual offences and ensuring those responsible are held accountable.”

(LONDON) Croydon Crown Court Report: A man who fatally stabbed a 26-year-old man near West Ealing railway station in 2019 has been convicted of murder on Friday #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – May.01: The court heard that police were called at 01:18hrs on 24 November 2019 to reports of an injured man outside West Ealing station:

Man convicted of the murder of Mehran Heydari in Ealing in 2019: Ismail Yusuf,20 (27.08.00) of Hangar Lane, W5 was found guilty of the murder of Mehran Heydari on Friday, 30 April after a trial at Croydon Crown Court.

Victim: Mehran Heydari

Victim: Mehran Heydari

Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended. At the scene, Mehran was found in a vehicle suffering from a stab wound. He died a short time later.

A post-mortem examination held at Fulham Mortuary on 24 November 2019 found the cause of death to be a single stab wound to the heart.

In the investigation, a witness approached police and explained that he had been sat in a window which looked out onto the pavement in Avenue Road.

He heard loud voices like somebody was fighting, turned around and saw a male lying on the road with another on top of him.

He could see the male on top’s right shoulder, heard him shouting and could see his arm going up and down in a stabbing motion three or four times.

The assailant then ran away from the scene.

Enquiries established that the victim, in a desperate attempt to get help, got into his car and tried to drive away before crashing his car into another vehicle.

An investigation into the circumstances of the attack was launched by homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command.

The investigation, using CCTV of the area, identified Yusuf as a suspect.

He was circulated as wanted for this offence on the 24 November 2019 and an extensive manhunt ensued. Various addresses were searched including those of family members.

Following this, Yusuf attended a north London police station on the 2 December 2019 where he was arrested. He was charged with murder on 3 December 2019 and remanded in custody.

Yusuf will appear at Croydon Crown Court for sentencing on Tuesday, 4 May.

Detective Sergeant Brian Jones, of the Specialist Crime team, said: “Mehran Heydari was the victim of a brutal assault at the hands of Ismail Yusuf. His death has left his family devastated. They will live with the impact of Yusuf’s actions for the rest of their lives – this is the tragedy of knife crime. I hope this urges those offenders who carry knives and other offensive weapons to seriously consider the impact of their decision: “ Yusuf is an incredibly dangerous individual and I have no doubt that the streets are a safer place now he is behind bars:” I hope the guilty verdict today begins to bring some justice and peace to his family who have had to deal with an awful and tragic situation.”
