(DAMASCUS) JUST IN: A bomb attack on an army bus has killed at least 14-people Wednesday in the bloodiest such attack to strike the Syrian capital in four years, the SANA state news agency reported #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – Oct.20: There was no immediate claim for the bombing but moments later shelling by government forces killed eight people in the Idlib region controlled by groups that have claimed such attack in the past.

#AceDailyNews says according to SANA at least 14-people have been killed in a ‘Rare Damascus Army Bus Bombing’ A terrorist bomber using two explosive devices targeted a passing bus” at a key bridge in the capital, the news agency said, reporting that 14 people had been killed and at least three wounded……

Images released by SANA showed first responders searching the charred carcass of the bus and what the news agency said was a bomb squad defusing a third device planted in the same area.

by Naharnet Newsdesk 17 minutes ago

A military source quoted by the state agency said the bomb had been planted on the bus itself and was detonated as it passed near the Hafez al-Assad bridge, close to the national museum in the heart of the capital.

Damascus had been largely spared such violence in recent years, especially since troops and allied militia retook the last significant rebel bastion near the capital in 2018.

The attack is the deadliest in the capital since a bombing claimed by the Islamic State jihadist group targeted the Justice Palace in March 2017, killing at least 30 people.

Around an hour after the Damascus attack, Syrian regime shelling struck the war-ravaged town of Ariha, in the northwestern region of Idlib.

  • Idlib carnage –

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the rockets struck a busy area at the time children were heading to school.

Three children were among those killed, the Britain-based war monitoring group said.

An AFP reporter saw at least five dead bodies as first responders treated the wounded and scenes of chaos filled the streets of Ariha.

“At 8 am (0500 GMT) we woke up to the bombardment. The children were terrified and were screaming,” said Bilal Trissi, a father of two who lives nearby.

“We didn’t know what to do or where to go and we didn’t see anything because of all the dust around us,” he told AFP.

“They bombed us in our neighborhood and in the market. There are children who died and people who lost their limbs… We don’t know why, what are we guilty of?”

The Damascus bombing will challenge the government’s assertion that the decade-old war is over and stability guaranteed for reconstruction efforts and investment projects to begin in earnest.

The government of President Bashar al-Assad has been striving to claw itself out of international isolation and had been making inroads in recent months.

The conflict that erupted with the brutal repression of unarmed protests demanding regime change in 2011 has left around half a million people dead, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

  • Conflict on standby –

It also led to the largest conflict-induced displacement since World War II, with half of Syria’s pre-war population of 22 million forced to flee their homes at one point.

Assad’s position once held by a thread, with his forces and their allies controlling barely a fifth of Syrian territory, but Russia’s military intervention in 2015 marked the start of a long and bloody fightback.

Also backed by Iran and its proxy militias, government forces have recaptured nearly all key cities in the country, with US-backed Kurdish forces still running the northeast.

The Islamic State’s once-sprawling caliphate, that straddled swathes of Iraq and Syria, inexorably shrank to its death, which came in eastern Syria in early 2019.

Since then, the Syrian government’s main focus has been the northwestern region of Idlib, where many of the rebels forced to surrender in other parts of the country have gathered.

The area is dominated by the jihadist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which includes leaders of Al-Qaeda’s former Syria franchise and over which Turkey has some sway.

HTS has not claimed attacks in Damascus in years however.

The remnants of IS in eastern Syria have gone underground but continue to harass government and allied forces, mostly in desert areas, in hit-and-run attacks.

A truce deal brokered by Turkey and Russia, the two main foreign players in the Syria conflict, has effectively put fighting in Idlib on standby.

Sporadic flareups have kept the egion on edge, however, and Wednesday’s shelling of Ariha was one of the most serious violations of the truce deal.

Assad insists he remains committed to reconquering all the territory lost to rebels at the beginning of the war, including the Idlib region.

(JERUSALEM) JUST IN: Scores of people have been injured in clashes overnight in the ‘Old City’ between far-right Jewish activists, Palestinians and Israeli police #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – Apr.23: Palestinians clashed with Israeli police amid a dispute over evening gatherings at Damascus Gate:

East Jerusalem clashes leave over 100 injured according to BBC Middle East & according to Reuters in Jerusalem have been rising for several days it follows nights of confrontations in the Israeli-occupied sector amid rising nationalist and religious tensions’ Reuters said police tried to keep the rival groups apart, detaining a number of protesters’

Israeli police and Palestinians face off in Jerusalem amid dispute over gatherings at Damascus Gate

Clashes between the two happened after the breaking of the daytime fast during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.(Reuters: Ammar Awad)

The clashes happened after iftar, the breaking of the daytime fast during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan on Thursday (local time) while Israeli protesters gathered near.

Meanwhile, a video on social media app TikTok purporting to show a Palestinian slapping an ultra-Orthodox Jewish man on Jerusalem’s light rail train has drawn protests by Israelis and calls by some right-wing politicians for tougher police action.

Nightly clashes and other violent incidents between Palestinians and Israelis in Jerusalem during Ramadan have laid bare simmering tensions in the holy city.

The incidents, which followed the start of Ramadan on April 13, threaten to break a sustained period of relative quiet in a contested city at the core of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Palestinians have said police tried to prevent them from holding their usual Ramadan evening gatherings outside Damascus Gate, a historic landmark on the north side of Jerusalem’s walled Old City.

Israeli police have fired stun grenades and sprayed foul-smelling skunk water to disperse the Palestinians, who in turn have discharged fireworks towards them.

Israeli police officers detain a Palestinian man during clashes.
Police arrested four people in a fight on Jaffa Road in downtown Jerusalem, Israeli media reported.(Reuters: Ammar Awad)

The measure, according to Israeli police, is part of its efforts to ensure that tens of thousands of Muslim worshippers have safe access to the main Islamic prayer site in the Old City, known as the Noble Sanctuary.

“Since Damascus Gate is the main way to reach and enter the Old City, police forces carry out field activities using various means to prevent friction, violence, and confrontation, and to maintain order and security in the area,” a police spokesman said.

He also said they will “act firmly against violence and riots of all kinds” to preserve public safety.

There have been some street skirmishes between Palestinian and Israeli civilians. Police arrested four people in one such fight on Jaffa Road in downtown Jerusalem on Wednesday night, Israeli media reported.

“Jews won’t be scared to walk around Jerusalem!” said a leaflet distributed on WhatsApp calling for Jewish protests at Damascus Gate on Thursday night.

Israel claims all of Jerusalem, including the eastern sector captured in the 1967 Middle East war, as its capital.

Palestinians seek to make East Jerusalem, including its Muslim, Christian and Jewish holy sites, the capital of a future state.

The violence erupted as police tried to keep Palestinians and ultra-nationalist Jewish protesters apart.

East Jerusalem has long been a flashpoint, with an uneasy coexistence there between Jews and Arabs.

Israel has occupied East Jerusalem since the 1967 Middle East war and considers the entire city its capital, though this is not recognised by the vast majority of the international community. Palestinians claim East Jerusalem as the future capital of a hoped-for independent state.

The worst fighting in days broke out on Thursday night after hundreds of Jewish extremists from the ultra-nationalist Lehava group marched towards the Damascus Gate entrance of Jerusalem’s Old City – where large numbers of Palestinians had gathered – chanting “Death to Arabs”.

Stones and bottles were thrown between the two sides, and police used stun grenades, tear gas and water cannon to try to disperse the crowds.

The Palestinian Red Crescent said at least 100 Palestinians were injured, while police said 20 officers were hurt. More than 50 people were arrested.

Tensions in East Jerusalem have escalated since the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan on 13 April. Palestinians have clashed with police, accusing them of erecting barriers to stop them from congregating on steps outside Damascus Gate to break the daytime fast. Police say the measures are intended to help pedestrian flow into the Old City.

Jews have also been angered by a spate of TikTok videos showing Palestinians assaulting members of the ultra-Orthodox community, including an attack on two ultra-Orthodox boys on Jerusalem’s light rail. The videos were given as a reason by Lehava for its march to Damascus Gate, in what it said would be a show of “national honour”.Why the ancient city of Jerusalem is so important

(DAMASCUS) SANA REPORT: Despite the difficult situation that Syria is going through, we have stood committed to our membership in the Chemical Weapons Convention,” Syria’s official news agency quoted Mekdad as saying in a meeting with ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions on Thursday evening #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – Apr.17: He added, “Syria and many other countries have acknowledged that the states which supported and funded armed terrorist groups in Syria, particularly the United States, France, Germany and Britain, will use the Syrian chemical file and the OPCW to achieve their hostile goals against Syria.”

FM Mekdad: US, allies have turned OPCW into a tool to pursue anti-Syria objectives: BUT Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Mekdad has categorically dismissed the new report by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), stating that the United States and its allies have turned the international watchdog into a tool to pursue their political goals against Damascus’

Mekdad noted that Syrian government forces continue to score remarkable victories in their battles against the Takfiri terrorist groups, emphasizing that the troops have never used chemical warfare even in toughest operations against the foreign-sponsored militants.

OPCW likely to repeat claims about chemical weapons use in Syria: Russian diplomat

OPCW likely to repeat claims about chemical weapons use in Syria: Russian diplomatA senior Russian diplomat warns against attempts to incriminate the Damascus government and Syrian army troops at the OPCW over alleged chemical weapons use in the war-ravaged country.

He went on to say that certain Western countries have established the OPCW’s so-called Investigation and Identification Team (IIT) in order to produce reports, which best suit their anti-Syria agenda.

“The French-Western draft resolution, which is to be presented at the 25th meeting of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons later this year, is a new chapter in the series of conspiracies against Syria,” Mekdad pointed out.

The top Syrian diplomat finally called on the OPCW member states to support Damascus and counter the politicization of the organization’s activities by some Western countries.

A report by the OPCW’s so-called investigative arm claimed on Monday that Syria’s air force had dropped a chlorine bomb on a residential neighborhood in the terrorist-controlled Idlib region.

The report further asserted no one was killed when the cylinder of chlorine gas, delivered in a barrel bomb, hit the al-Talil neighborhood in the city of Saraqib in February 2018.

The Syrian foreign ministry, in a statement published on Wednesday, said the OPCW’s “misleading report,” written by “an illegitimate and incredible team,” fabricates “facts” to incriminate the Damascus government.

Syria rejects ‘fabricated’ OPCW report on alleged 2018 gas attack in Saraqib

Syria rejects ‘fabricated’ OPCW report on alleged 2018 gas attack in SaraqibSyria dismisses as “false and fabricated” the results of a probe by the OPCW into an alleged chemical attack in Saraqib in February 2018.

“This report has included false and fabricated conclusion which represents another scandal for the OPCW and the inquiry teams that will be added to the scandal of the reports of Douma incident in 2018, and Ltamenah in 2017,” it said.

Moscow and Damascus have on many occasions said members of the so-called White Helmets civil defense group stage gas attacks in a bid to falsely incriminate Syrian government forces and fabricate pretexts for military strikes by the US-led military coalition.

The group claims to be a humanitarian NGO but has long been accused of collaborating with anti-Damascus militants.

On April 14, 2018, the US, Britain and France carried out a string of airstrikes against Syria over a suspected chemical weapons attack on the city of Douma, located about 10 kilometers northeast of the capital Damascus.

'External pressure behind OPCW altering facts on Douma attack'

‘External pressure behind OPCW altering facts on Douma attack’Retired US army colonel Lawrence Wilkerson says international organizations such as OPCW at times come under pressure from certain countries to “alter the facts.”

Washington and its allies blamed Damascus for the Douma attack, a charge the Syrian government rejected.

Western governments and their allies have never stopped pointing the finger at Damascus whenever an apparent chemical attack takes place.

This is while Syria surrendered its stockpile of chemical weapons in 2014 to a joint mission led by the United States and the OPCW, which oversaw the destruction of the weaponry. It has consistently denied using chemical weapons.

(DAMASCUS) #Syria War Report: As legacy media again bleat the unsubstantiated “Syria is bombing hospitals” chorus of its war propaganda songbook, let’s pause to review the relatively unknown (but verifiable) reality of terrorists bombing hospitals in Syria #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – Mar.26: Following recent allegations of a hospital being targeted Al Atarib, western Aleppo, the US State Department repeated the claim, in spite of any clear evidence to back it up:

Western media quick to accuse Syria of ‘bombing hospitals’ – but when TERRORISTS really destroy Syrian hospitals, they are silent: after but instead, reports rely on highly questionable sources like the White Helmets, the USAID-funded Syrian American Medical Society and theusual unnamed “witnesses” and (clearly impartial!) “rebel sources,” as per a Reuters’ report on the recent claims:

Western media quick to accuse Syria of 'bombing hospitals' - but when TERRORISTS really destroy Syrian hospitals, they are silent

US sanctions are part of a multi-front war on Syria, and its long-suffering civilians are the main target

In fact, Reuters even acknowledges being unable to verify the authenticity of videos purporting to show “a ward damaged and civil defence rescuers carrying bloodstained patients outside.”

Let’s recall that Idlib is occupied by Al-Qaeda in Syria – a fact emphasized (as I wrote) by the US’ own former special envoy, Brett McGurk, who deemed the northwestern Syrian province the “largest Al-Qaeda safe-haven since 9/11.” ….Syrian Army says Israeli jets targeted Damascus countryside after Iran warned of repercussions

The presence of Al-Qaeda and affiliated terrorist groups makes it impossible for independent, neutral bodies to assess what is going on.

Facts matter, they say. But really, not so much when it comes to war propaganda.

In Sarmada, Idlib countryside, one of the targets was a Tahrir al-Sham (Al-Qaeda in Syria) fuel market, the smuggled fuel tankers obliterated.

A White Helmets video supposedly filmed in Al-Atarib alleges a hospital was bombed there. It indeed shows what looks like a medical facility covered in dust, and a lot of bulky men of fighting age. Glaringly absent are women or normal looking civilians.

Given the White Helmets’ penchant for working only in areas controlled by terrorist factions, working with them and even numbering among them, dabbling in organ trade, and having lied many times in the past, the video proves nothing.

There is, on the other hand, a precedent for “hospitals” or medical centres being weaponized by terrorists. And not just once or twice, but repeatedly in terrorist-occupied areas throughout Syria.

I’ve seen them in Aleppo and eastern Ghouta.

The Eye and Childrens’ Hospitals, a large complex in eastern Aleppo, was militarized and occupied by terrorists including the Tawhid Brigade, Al-Qaeda and even IS (Islamic State, formerly ISIS). Prisoners were held, and tortured, in nightmarish prisons and solitary confinement cells deep below.

As journalist Vanessa Beeley noted, in eastern Ghouta, medical centres, “provided treatment almost exclusively to extremist armed factions.” They were also built underground, “linked by a vast maze of tunnels that snaked below most of the districts controlled by the armed groups, providing cover for the fighters during SAA [Syrian Arab Army] military campaigns.” (An aside, see one of these massive tunnels in Douma, at the location of the underground “hospital.”)

In Idlib, a “hospital” that the New York Times claimed Russian warplanes bombed in May 2019 was a cave used as a terrorist headquarters. Another fortified cave in Khan Sheikhoun was well-stocked with weapons, medical supplies and gas masks, and a prison with solitary confinement cells.

In areas liberated from terrorists, the Syrian Army routinely finds such caves, with tunnels connecting terrorist bases so they can avoid moving above ground.

In the past, Russia has provided satellite imagery when the question of a building allegedly being bombed arose. Until we have conclusive evidence either way, it is a question of he said, she said, although common sense (and the history of such lies) points to more media fabrications. Also on rt.com Israel violates international law anew, again bombing Syria…to further indifference of Western media

Hospitals bombed, media yawns

Since the media and pundits clearly care so much about Syrian hospitals being bombed, and even destroyed, it’s worth reviewing some of the major hospitals damaged or destroyed by terrorist factions.

However, unsurprisingly, not a lot of information is available. The following is a partial list, with me filling in details from attacked hospitals that I have gone to.

  • The September 2012 Free Syrian Army (FSA) bombing of and complete destruction of Al-Watani Hospital in Qusayr, Homs province.
  • The September 2012 FSA bombing and complete destruction of two hospitals in Aleppo.
  • The December 2013 FSA & Al-Qaeda bombing and complete destruction of Aleppo’s Al-Kindi hospital, one of the largest and best cancer hospitals in the Middle East.
  • The April 2015 FSA bombing and siege of the National Hospital in Jisr al-Shughour, Idlib.
  • The May 2016 IS horrific multiple suicide bombings in Jableh (andalso in Tartous the same day), including inside Jableh’s National Hospital.
  • The May 2016 attack outside Aleppo’s Dabeet maternity hospital, a missile hit a car parked outside, which then exploded, killing three women at the hospital and injuring many more.

I went to Aleppo in July 2016 and spoke with the director, who confirmed his hospital was gutted in the blast, and noted that a week later terrorists’ mortars hit the roof of the hospital, destroying the roof and injuring construction workers.

In May 2018, before Daraa was fully liberated, I went to areas which were under fire from terrorists (including the day I went), and took a perilous high speed ride in the taxi I had hired in Damascus to the state hospital, down a road exposed to terrorist sniping from less than 100 metres away.

The hospital was battered and partially destroyed from terrorists’ mortars, and mostly empty of patients. The director showed me destroyed wards (dialysis and laboratory), and off-limits areas due to high risk of sniping (gynecology, operations, blood bank, nursing school, children’s hospital).

When I returned to Daraa in September, after the region was liberated, the hospital was full of patients, since it was finally possible to access without risk.

Behind the hospital, roughly 50 metres away, I saw a building when I was told had been occupied by terrorists. Hence the extreme risk of being sniped while inside the hospital.

I never saw any Western outlet speak of this hospital, although it serviced civilians and was quite visibly partially destroyed.

In November 2016, I met Dr. Ibrahim Hadid, former Director of Kindi Hospital, who said that he wanted medical colleagues and institutions to exert some of the concern they have for “hospitals” allegedly bombed in terrorist areas.

They, and Western corporate media, have done the opposite, of course.

Another chemical song and dance routine?

Meanwhile, Russia is warning of a possible new staged chemical provocation by Tahrir al-Sham in Idlib.

The Russian Center for Reconciliation says, “militants are plotting to stage a fake chemical attack near the settlement of Qitian,” to again accuse the Syrian government of using chemicals on the people.

As anyone following the war on Syria knows, although the West desperately wants to prove Syria committed one or more chemical attacks, it has failed, to the point where even OPCW experts spoke out, contradicting the claims.

As I wrote last week, in spite of incessantly lying about Syria for ten years, Western (and Gulf) media, pundits and politicians steam ahead with more lies – recycled accusations and war propaganda.

So, it is likely the “hospitals bombed” theme will surge anew, and then the “chemical attacks” theme. And then maybe we’ll have another new Bana al-Abed to ask Biden to bomb Syria or “holocaust” Idlib…

On and on it goes, ceaseless war propaganda in its 10 years since the war in Syria began, and Western media & pundits are still eager to keep it going

The irony is of course, as I feel the need to make clear nearly every time I write, those script-readers claiming that Syria (and Russia) are bombing hospitals, or using chemicals, or whatever lie is next recycled, don’t actually care about the lives of Syrians.

If they did, they would stop whitewashing terrorism in Syria, aid the country and its allies in liberating Idlib and the Aleppo countryside, stop pillaging its oil, leave Syria, and lift the sanctions.

SYRIA: ‘ ‘ Five civilians killed & 55-others injured after militants target Damascus ‘

#AceNewsReport – SYRIA:Aug.12: Five civilians were killed and 55 others injured after militants targeted Damascus on Wednesday with mortars and rockets that landed in various neighborhoods, Syria’s state news agency SANA reported on Wednesday.

The shells were fired from positions in the eastern al-Ghouta, a source at Damascus Police Command said, adding that most of the victims were women and children.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif was expected to head for Damascus from Beirut later in the day to discuss a new plan to resolve the civil war.

#AceWorldNews – IRAQ – October 22 – The Syrian Air Force has destroyed two of three jets seized by the Islamic State (IS) group last week, the information minister in Damascus said.

Omran al-Zoubi said on television that Syrian aircraft bombed the jets as they were landing at Jarrah airbase in the eastern countryside of Aleppo province.

The militants were able to hide a third jet, which the Syrian Air Force is now searching for, AP quoted the minister as saying.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights had reported that IS militants flew three MiG fighter jets over the air base with the help of former Iraqi air force pilots.

“At least 15 civilians, including three aged under 18, were killed in eight raids by Syrian military planes on several districts of the town of Douma,” 13 kilometres (eight miles) north-east of Damascus, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

On Thursday, regime air strikes killed 20 people, including two children and two women, in Jisrin to the east of Damascus, and two others in nearby Saqba, according to the Observatory.

Closing in on Douma, a town of 200,000 residents, the army has seized control of Mleiha and Adra and has set its sights on Jobar and Ain Tarma, all towns to the east of the capital.

#AceNewsServices – UNITED STATES – October 13 – Even though Islamic State militants in Syria have no aircraft to speak of, the US’s top military commander says establishing a no-fly zone may be part of the campaign.

Such a move is what US allies, including Turkey, have been pressing for.

The possible establishment of a no-fly zone over northern Syria was hinted at by Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Martin Dempsey.

“Do I anticipate that there could be circumstances in the future where that would be part of the campaign? Yeah,” he told ABC’s This Week program.

The general added that in response to the bombing campaign the IS are learning to blend in with the population and hide from the coalition attacks.

“An enemy adapts and they’ll be harder to target. Yeah, they know how to maneuver and how to use populations and concealment,” he said.

Earlier, US Secretary of Defence Chuck Hagel indicated that there was a possibility for a no-fly zone in Syria, as per Ankara’s request.

“We have discussed all these possibilities and will continue to talk about what the Turks believe they will require,” The New York Times reported him as saying.

` President Bashar-Al-Assad Wins Third Term With Landslide Victory ‘

#AceWorldNews – SYRIA – DAMASCUS –  June 04 – Incumbent President Bashar Assad has overwhelmingly won Syria’s presidential election, the speaker of the Syrian parliament said Wednesday.

A total of 88.7% of voters (10.2 million people) voted for Assad, he said.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has won a third term in office after securing 88.7% of votes in Tuesday’s presidential election, the parliamentary speaker says.

Earlier, Syria’s constitutional court put the vote turnout at 73.47%.

Voting took place in government-controlled areas, but not in parts of the north and east held by rebels.

Tens of thousands of Syrians have died in three years of civil war in Syria, with millions more displaced.

President Assad’s key challengers, Hassan al-Nouri and Maher Hajjar, received 4.3% and 3.2% of the vote respectively.

It was the first time in decades that more than one name – outside of the Assad family – had been allowed to stand as presidential candidate.

But the Syrian opposition in rebel-held areas had dismissed the election as a farce, arguing that it has no credibility in the midst of a civil war.

The results of the election were announced by parliamentary speaker Jihad Laham on Wednesday.

` Syrian One-Sided Presidential Election Starts Amid Cries from Critics of it Being a Sham ‘

#AceWorldNews – DAMASCUS (SANA)- Presidential candidate Dr. Bashar al-Assad cast a vote Tuesday morning at Martyr Ma’asarani School polling centre in Damascus.

(BBC) – President Bashar al-Assad is widely expected to win a third seven-year term in office.

As Syria’s presidential election candidates started their campaign in the country, critics of the Syrian government have denounced the election as a sham.

The event comes after Supreme Constitutional Court issued the final list of candidates on May 10.

Maher Abdul-Hafiz Hajjar, lawmaker from Aleppo, Hassan Abdullah al-Nouri, lawmaker from Damascus, and Bashar Hafez al-Assad, incumbent president, are three candidates for June’s presidential election.

(Posters of candidates and their slogans are also visible all around the capital, Damascus)

(PressTV) – Under the Syrian law, each candidate needs to secure the support of 35 lawmakers in the 254-member parliament as each MP is allowed to back one candidate.

The vote must take place between 60 and 90 days before President Assad’s seven-year term comes to an end on July 17.

Damascus has insisted that it would hold the vote despite the foreign-backed militancy that has plagued the Arab country for more than three years.

Last month, Syria dismissed Western and opposition accusations regarding the presidential election, saying that it is planning to hold a free and transparent vote.

Syria has been gripped by deadly violence since March 2011.

Over 150,000 people have reportedly been killed and millions displaced due to the violence fuelled by the foreign-backed militants.

` Al-Nursa Front Use Civilians as Human Shields as Syrian Army Advances on Damascus ‘

#AceNewsServices – DAMASCUS – May 28 – The advance of the Syrian army on the locations of militants in Damascus outskirts has been practically stopped.

Servicemen are forced to carry out protracted trench combat actions, while mediators are trying to convince the Mujahidin militants of the terrorist al-Nusra Front to free hundreds, or even thousands of civilians, who are used as human shield by the bandits.

“There is fear and panic between them.

We can hear this by intercepting radio conversations. They are always blaming some Arur, as we understand, a Saudi, who enrolled them.

They came for caliphate, but they will meet doom,” Colonel Khalid, commander of a military unit in al-Qabun district — less than 10 km from Damascus down-town, told ITAR-TASS on Wednesday.

This district on the capital’s east is of strategic importance since it borders with the Homs – Damascus highway that runs further to the south to Daraa near the border with Jordan.

Al-Qabun fell under control of the militants in late 2011 under the same scenario used three years later in Kiev on the Maidan: peaceful protests were fusilladed by anonymous snipers in order to cast the blame for hundreds of deaths upon the governmental forces.

General Wafiq, who commands the Syrian army in al-Qabun, is convinced that the initial tactics was first rehearsed in Syria as on a testing range, and Israeli secret services and their American allies are primarily involved in it.

In the conversation with an ITAR-TASS reporter, the general recalled a trip of then ambassador of the US to Syria Robert Ford to Homs and Hama, where he generously pledged to help with money weapons to the rebels in their confrontation with the ‘regime’.

“We could attack even tomorrow and eliminate all of them, but there are many civilians, hundreds, thousands, and therefore we do not get the order,” Colonel Khalid says. “They are surrounded, completely blocked.

The Syrians would have surrendered long ago, but there may be up to a thousand foreign mercenaries, and they know that there will be no mercy on them, all will be eliminated, and we will not judge them.”

` Syria Expels Jordan’s Top Diplomat in Tit-For-Tat Move ‘

#AceWorldNews – DAMASCUS – May 26 – Syria declared Jordan’s charge d’affaires in Damascus persona non grata, Reuters said.

The move was taken in response to what Damascus said was an unjustified decision by the kingdom to expel its ambassador.

Earlier in the day, Jordan gave Syrian Ambassador Bahjat Suleiman, a former general and intelligence chief, 24 hours to leave the country.

The envoy was accused of having made repeated public criticisms of the kingdom.

` United Nations Humanitarian Chief Expresses Outrage at Deliberate Attack on Warehouse in Damascus ‘

#AceWorldNews – UNITED NATIONS – DAMASCUS – 25 May 2014 – The United Nations humanitarian chief today expressed outrage at a deliberate attack on a humanitarian warehouse in the Damascus province of Syria, which occurred as aid workers were preparing to distribute urgently needed supplies to hundreds of families in the besieged city.

“The targeting of the warehouse, which reportedly killed several people and wounded one Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) volunteer, is evidence of the blatant disregard for International Humanitarian Law which is a disturbing feature of the conflict in Syria,” UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Valerie Amos said in a statement from her office (OCHA).

She added that the attack violated assurances from those involved in the conflict that they would refrain from hostilities while the joint UN/SARC convoy was on the ground.

The city of Douma, in the Eastern Ghouta area of Damascus province, has been under siege by Government forces for over 18 months. It has been nearly two months since aid workers were last able to bring supplies into the city.

“People are in desperate need of food, water, sanitation, health services and medicines,” Ms. Amos said.

The joint convoy carried food and non-food items, and medicines for the treatment of chronic diseases for up to 24,000 people. As a result of the attack distribution on site was forced to be cancelled and the supplies delivered to Syrian Arab Red Crescent partners in Douma.

“Aid workers are frequently targeted or subjected to harassment in Syria,” the UN senior official said. Among recent incidents, aid workers on 8 February came under direct attack during the aid delivery and evacuation of people from the old city of Homs.

Such attacks are “utterly unacceptable and have a devastating ripple effect as they hinder the provision of aid to those in desperate need”, said Ms. Amos.

&nbsp #AceWorldNews SYRIA May 09  The last 16…

#AceWorldNewsSYRIAMay 09 – The last 16 containers of Syrian dangerous chemicals to be destroyed remain in area where fighting is on, the head of the Joint Mission of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and the United Nations, Sigrid Kaag told AP.

She said a ceasefire will be needed to get the remaining containers, representing 8 percent of Syria’s declared stockpile, out of an air base near Damascus controlled by armed opposition groups of “the more extreme kind,” Kaag said.

She called on countries with influence on forces fighting in Syria to help arrange access for experts to the site and safe transport for the chemicals to the port of Latakia, where Danish and Norwegian ships are waiting to take the containers to a US vessel for destruction.

` Rebel Forces Prevent Aid Convoy from Preventing from Entering Villages of Nubi and Zahraa in Aleppo ‘

#AceWorldNews – BEIRUT – May 07 – Exhausted and worn out from a year-long siege, hundreds of Syrian rebels on Wednesday left their last remaining bastions in the heart of the central city of Homs under a cease-fire deal with government forces.

The exit of some 1,200 fighters and civilians will mark a de facto end of the rebellion in the battered city, which was one of the first places to rise up against President Bashar Assad’s rule, earning it the nickname of “capital of the revolution.”

Gaining full control of Syria’s third largest city is a major win for Assad on multiple levels. Militarily, it solidifies the government hold on a swath of territory in central Syria, linking the capital Damascus with government strongholds along the coast and giving a staging ground to advance against rebel territory further north.

It cited Al-Jadeed television as saying that an aid convoy was prevented from entering the villages of Nubl and Zahraa in Aleppo. The two Shia villages are besieged by rebel forces, and the deal to evacuate the rebels in Homs was contingent on aid being allowed into the villages.

The convoy had been stopped by an Islamist brigade, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Politically, gains on the ground boost Assad’s hold on power as he seeks to add a further claim of legitimacy in presidential elections set for June 3.

` Syria Commemorates Martyrs Day and the Sacrifices Made by Syrian Journalists to Bring us the News '

#AceNewsServices – DAMASCUS – May 06 – (SANA) An ever-growing strength is inspired by the imperishable memory of the shinning martyrs of the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), which today glows brighter as Syria commemorates Martyrs’ Day.

The stories of sacrifice, commitment and heroism of Ali Abbas, Ali Ahmad, Samer al-Masri, Khaled Sida, Azzam Abbas, Mohamamd Ibrahim and Riyad al-Masri have offered a beacon of encouragement to Syria’s journalists who have vowed from day one of the crisis to be the voice of truth.

The Syrian journalists, like everyone else, have dauntlessly fought to reveal the horridness of the terrorist war raging in Syria in defiance of the deafening silence, at best, and blinding falseness, at worst, of the coverage of the western and Gulf media.

None of his colleagues ever imagined that August 11 of 2012 was the last day to see Ali Abbas, Head of Domestic News Department, whose life came to an end as terrorists shot him dead inside his house after he was back home from a long day at work.

Answering the call of military duty, Ali Ahmad, who had showed unequalled devotion to his job as an editor and translator at the French Bulletin Department, unhesitantly headed to the frontlines of the battlefield and got killed defending the homeland, despite the fact that he could, though choosing not to, request delayed military enlistment being at the time a Master’s Degree student.

The terrorists’ cowardly acts of firing mortar shells whenever getting hemmed in were what claimed the lives of Samer al-Masri, Khaled al-Sida and Azzam Abbas, in addition to Mohamamd Ibrahim who works at the cafeteria, as shells landed in the surrounding of SANA building on March 26, 2013.

While recalling the memory of their dead colleagues and speaking of their special traits, SANA workers pledge that they will continue to walk the truth-seeking path of journalism fearlessly defying all challenges, obstacles and terrorist threats.
