#AceNewsServices – UNITED KINGDOM – Dec.02 – Cocaine with a street value of £40m has been found in a shipment of bananas in an operation by UK and Irish authorities Sky News reported.

The 300kg of the Class A drug was discovered following a search of the cargo vessel Star Stratos at Portsmouth, Hampshire.

It had travelled from Colombia.

Investigations are continuing after Monday’s operation by the National Crime Agency (NCA) and Border Force, who were working with Irish police.

Tom Dowdall, deputy director of the NCA’s border policing command, said: “Working with our law enforcement partners in the UK and Ireland we have successfully prevented a huge quantity of what is likely to be very high purity cocaine reaching our streets.

“This seizure once again demonstrates the international reach of the NCA and the impact we are having on the criminal networks involved in drug trafficking.”

In September, around a tonne of cocaine was seized by Ireland’s Naval Service from the yacht Makayabella around 480km (300 miles) off the south west coast of Ireland in a joint operation with the NCA

DES Daughter Network

DES Daughter Network blog image of dandelion seeds

My DES Daughter Network blog is the little sister of my “Diethylstibestrol, Journal of a DES Daughter” website blog but with a focus on social media and social networking. This blog features and displays the social media networks of existing DES groups and individuals who have an online social media presence aimed at raising DES awareness.  This new blog provides me with an additional platform where I can express myself about DES issues and share my experience of using social media networks to support this cause with others interested in the health and personal problems associated with DES exposure.

Why a new blog?

Around the world, thousands, maybe millions of people are totally unaware that they were exposed to Diethylstilbestrol DES Diethylstilbestrol DES Google+ Page icon, a toxic and carcinogenic drug. All of these people are not receiving proper medical treatment, or making truly informed decisions about their healthcare, as a result.

How do you reach out to these people?  One answer which immediately came to my mind when I started writing my “Journal of aDES Daughter is through the use of social media and social networking.

Nowadays, social media and social networking tools are vital to building a strong online presence. The use of social media is stronger than ever.Facebook, Flickr, Google+, Twitter, YouTube are just some of the popular forms of social media used by millions around the world on a daily basis. Chances are, anyone you speak to today has at least one, if not more of these accounts.

To me, social media is simply the easiest, fastest and cheapest, yet effective way to raise DES awareness.

The 4 “C’s of Social Media for the DES cause
Connect, Contribute, Collaborate, Change

  • Connect: DES, like social media, is about people. People affected by this drug disaster often feel lonely and would benefit from connecting with other DES victims.
  • Contribute: DES information needs to be instantly available to the public to generate an instant reaction and increase awareness.
  • Collaborate: DES is a worldwide tragedy. DES information, studies and data need to be shared to better understand the full extent of the health issues associated with DES exposure. Social media increases potential for collaboration.
  • Change: The DES story needs to be told not just through studies, statistics, numbers and figures but through real life experiences. The collective voice of DES victims on social media platforms can bring about change. Lessons must be learned so that history doesn’t repeat itself.

Despite the number of people affected by the DES tragedy and the hard work of DES support groups and activists, the DES cause is going unnoticed, or not noticed enough among the general public. The use of social media can change this. In today’s fast-moving world, we will make a difference and bring about change only if we connect, contribute, and collaborate.

` Russian Drug Squad Prevent Activity of a Major Criminal Group in Crimea ‘

#AceNewsServices – MOSCOW – May 13  – Officers of the Russian drug watchdog have curbed the activity of a major criminal group in Crimea, which had supplied drugs to the region for 10 years.

Drug Squad in Crimea

The Federal Drug Control Service reported this on Tuesday.

“In the recent years, organized criminal groups became active in Crimea. Their activity is understood: Ukrainian law enforcement agencies were loyal to drug business. At present, Russian drug control agencies got into gear and are actively eliminating criminal structures involved in drug trafficking. The drug enforcers have already seized major consignments of drugs and eliminated stable distribution channels,” a Federal Drug Control Service representative said.

He added that May 5, officers of the Regional Directorate of the Federal Drug Control Service curbed the activity of an organized criminal group, which had supplied drugs all over the peninsula for 10 years.

The raid was divided into several stages.

It is noteworthy that the investigation into the activity of the group was carried out with no access to the data base of Ukraine’s Interior Ministry, the agency’s representative said.

“As a result, two organizers and 12 members of an international drug trafficking group have been detained. Five of them repeatedly came to the attention of the law enforcement agencies. The drug enforcers have seized over 1,800 doses of drugs packed for sale, as well as a big amount of precursors,” the Federal Drug Control Service reported.

The cars of the drug dealers were arrested; about 600,000 rubles ($17,189) and golden jewellery allegedly bought for money gained from drug dealing have been seized.

“The elimination of this criminal group caused wide response among the residents, given the fact that earlier, despite multiple claims about the obvious criminal activity of the drug dealers, no measures were taken,” the agency’s representative said.

` Afghanistan will require 10 years of help with their `Infrastructure ‘ to Combat Drug Trafficking – FDCS ‘

#AceWorldNews – MOSCOW – March 25 – Head of Russia’s Federal Drug Control Service (FDCS) has stressed the need for helping Afghanistan’s comprehensive development within the upcoming ten years to make the fight with drug trafficking effective.

“To implement this ideology or doctrine on security through development, we need to organize Afghanistan’s comprehensive development in the period from 2015 to 2025 on the basis of alternative development programs of new generation, including accelerated industrialization and construction of basic infrastructures,” Viktor Ivanov told a meeting of the expert community on Tuesday in the run-up to a ministerial meeting of heads of anti-drug agencies.

“This approach seems the only productive way to resolve the priority task by the world community – to eliminate the global scale drug producing centre “in the heart of Asia,” he said.
