Honorary guards placed wooden coffins on the plane after a short and sombre ceremony held on the tarmac before it took off.

All 298 people on board the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 perished when it was brought down last Thursday over rebel-held territory in eastern Ukraine, where Kiev is struggling anti-government forces.

Many of the victims were Dutch and the Netherlands will carry out their identification.

At the ceremony, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman said the downing of the plane was an “inhumane terrorist act” carried out with help from Russia.

Kiev will do everything in its power to bring those guilty to justice, he added. Russia denies its involvement.

On Monday the Russian military presented information that a Ukrainian SU-25 fighter had been gaining altitude in the direction of the Malaysian Boeing prior to the catastrophe.

A Canadian military transport plane is due to leave Kharkiv with 24 more coffins later on Wednesday.

09:21 GMT:

The black boxes from Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 have been handed over to British experts, UK investigators have told press.

The inflight recorders recovered from the wreckage of the downed Malaysian plane have arrived in Britain to be analyzed, the Ukrainian government’s investigation committee told press. The Ukrainian investigators confirmed they had seen the recorders, but not handled them as per an agreement reached with the Malaysian and Dutch inspectors.

“Today … the black boxes from the airliner Boeing 777 arrived in Britain under the supervision of ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization),” the commission said on its Facebook page.

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott said on Wednesday that it was still unclear how many bodies from downed Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 had arrived in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv and how many may have been left behind at the crash site. (Reuters)

05:53 GMT:

Dutch experts have said they were given 80 fewer corpses than indicated by the eastern Ukrainian militia.

“There were human remains that had not been picked up,” said Michael Bociurkiw, a spokesman for the OSCE after visiting the crash site.

“What struck us is that we did not monitor any recovery activity in place,” he added, indicating at least two areas where there still were human remains.

02:38 GMT:

Moscow has handed over to the European Union the Ministry of Defense’s monitoring data on the Malaysia Airlines MH17 crash in eastern Ukraine, Russian envoy to the EU Vladimir Chizhov said.

The documents, which are in both Russian and English, were sent “to all the interested parties,” he told journalists in Brussels, as quoted by RIA Novosti. Russia hopes the investigation of the tragedy will be “truly unbiased, independent and international,” as called for by the UN Security Councilresolution unanimously adopted Monday, Chizhov said.

I’m surprised by statements made by certain European representatives,” he said. Even European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso – who is on a visit in Brazil – “voiced certainty that the plane, as he said, was shot down by ‘separatists.’”According to the Russian diplomat, attempts to foresee the results of an investigation “can only be considered as an attempt to put pressure on the probe.”

I hope that will not happen,” Chizhov said.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has refused to include south-eastern militia in the peace negotiations which are aimed at resolving the conflict in the country, according to his press-service.

Explaining his decision at the meeting with Netherlands’ Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans in Kiev, Poroshenko said the militia forces are to blame for the MH17 flight crash that happened on Thursday when the Malaysia airline’s plane was downed near Donetsk, resulting in 298 deaths.

Speaking about the settlement of the conflict in the Donbas, Poroshenko noted that those who are related to a terrorist attack cannot be a party in the negotiations. Their crime should be investigated in international courts,” said the press service.

Kiev armed forces are concentrating on Donetsk’s western borders preparing for an assault on the city, representative of DPR self-defense forces told RIA Novosti.

The representative also told the agency that despite a temporary truce over the MH17 flight incident, the fighting continues to the south of the city, as well as other areas. He said the anti-Kiev forces also engaged in fighting near Donetsk airport where there is a large concentration of Kiev forces.

The representative added that villages surrounding the airport suffered civilian loses, as Ukrainian tanks and four Grad rockets shelled the villages of Peski, Tonenkoe, and Andreevka. After the shelling, Ukrainian forces took the communities of Severnoe and Tonenkoe by deploying four tanks in the villages.

US President Barack Obama is once again pressuring his European allies to impose more sanctions on Russia, as he spoke to German Chancellor Angela Merkel and British Prime Minister David Cameron on the phone.

Barack Obama Pensive

“While agreeing to continue efforts to find a diplomatic solution to the current crisis, they reaffirmed their determination to remain in close contact as they consider what additional actions  may be required,” the White House said of Obama’s call with Merkel.

“They emphasized that Russia bears a clear responsibility to deny separatists in eastern Ukraine  continued access to heavy weapons and other support from inside Russia,” it said.

In their separate call, Obama and Cameron “reiterated the need to take further action if Russia continues to fail to take … steps” to de-escalate the Ukraine conflict, the White House said.

Breaking News – UKRAINE MINISTRY: REBELS DOWN MILITARY AIRCRAFT

Il-76 Plane (Similar to one shot down)

KIEV, Ukraine (AP) — The Ukrainian Defense Ministry says that pro-Russian separatists have shot down a large military transport plane in the country’s unsettled east and that service personnel aboard were killed.

The statement Saturday on the ministry’s website says that the plane was downed as it approached an airport at Lugansk. The statement did not say how many people were on board the Il-76 transport plane, which was carrying service members as well as equipment and food.

The statement said that the rebels “cynically and perfidiously” downed the plane using anti-aircraft guns and heavy caliber machine guns.

An Il-76 is a four-engine jet that can be used to transport heavy gear and people.

` Burisma Holdings Ukraine’s Largest Private Gas Producer has Licences and Board of Control ‘

#AceNewsservices – KIEV – May 17 – Economic interests, such as untapped shale gas resources, already sliced and diced by Western energy giants, are behind the Kiev government’s ‘anti-terrorist’ operation against the pro-federalist regions, foreign policy expert Nebojsa Malic tells RT.

Board of Directors of Burisma Holdings

The  eastern Donetsk and Lugansk regions cut ties with Kiev and declared independence from Kiev after a popular vote last Sunday. Yet federalist activists have no doubt that a new wave of government crackdown is on its way.

And they do have every reason to think so, because, as RT’s Gayane Chichakyan reports, reinstating control over the restive regions isn’t the only agenda driving Kiev’s ongoing offensive, as the core of the conflict is probably only business as usual.

Eastern Ukraine is not only of people who don’t want to be under the Kiev coup-installed government’s control, but there are also natural energy resources in the region, such as coal and more specifically, shale natural gas, untapped deposits of which lie underground in the Dnieper-Donets basin.

The cities Kiev is now striving to force into submission by making them war zones are situated in the area of shale gas deposits.

Tensions are highest in the city of Slavyansk in the Donetsk region: it has been besieged by Kiev’s troops and armed militants of the Right Sector neo-Nazi union for weeks. The self defense forces in eastern Ukraine‘s newly-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic are on high alert.

It’s in the Donetsk Region that Shell signed, in January 2013, a 50-year profit sharing deal with the government of Ukraine to explore and drill for natural gas in shale rock formations.

These are future profits that Kiev does not want to lose.

“I would say that the economic interest in this case is what’s driving the coup regime in Kiev to launch military actions against its own citizens, because they stand to make a profit from these contracts signed by the previous government,” foreign affairs expert Nebojsa Malic commented to RT.

US energy giant Chevron signed a similar deal for $10 billion last year, but it is focusing on developing shale gas reserves in the West of Ukraine.

Map of Area of Ukraine

Ukrainian paratroopers ride atop an

Yet it’s not just energy giants that have a stake in Ukraine’s reserves.

The recent appointment of the US Vice President’s son, Hunter Biden, to the board of directors of Ukraine’s largest private gas producer, Burisma Holdings, has put the Ukrainian shale gas development deal into a new perspective.

Burisma holds licenses covering the Dnieper-Donets basin in the eastern Ukraine and Biden jr. is not the only American with political ties to have recently joined the company’s board.

Devon Archer, a former senior advisor to current Secretary of State John Kerry‘s 2004 presidential campaign and a college room-mate of Kerry’s stepson, signed up with Burisma in April.

“There is certainly no better demonstration of altruism and humanitarianism in a free market than criticizing a country for corruption, sponsoring a coup to overthrow the allegedly corrupt government – and then appointing sons and friends of American officials to be on boards of companies having interests in that country,” Nebojsa Malic said. “Surely, that is perfectly legal and above board,” he added.

#AceBreakingNews UKRAINE One civilian was killed and several…

#AceBreakingNews – UKRAINE – One civilian was killed and several others wounded in eastern Ukraine as the National Guard started shooting at protesters and voters, who had gathered around a seized polling station in Krasnoarmeysk, self-defence forces and witnesses said.

The National Guard entered the city in the Donetsk region earlier on Sunday and occupied several polling stations, the city council building among them. First reports on shooting appeared on Twitter.

I just saw the National Guard kill one and injure several others,” Russian journalist Ilya Azar wrote in his micro-blog. Later this was confirmed by Denis Pushilin, the co-chairman of the self-proclaimed People’s Donetsk Republic.

Azar also posted a photo of the dead young man. He says at least one more person was injured in the chest. Other unconfirmed reports on Twitter say at least three others sustained wounds.

An amateur video posted on YouTube shows several National Guard mercenaries blocking the entry to the city council headquarters used as a polling station, and firing at locals.

People were just standing there, unarmed, outside the city council seized by the Guard,” Azar tweeted.

Krasnoarmeysk, together with many other places in southeastern Ukraine, has conducted an autonomy referendum. Following the National Guard’s interference, the voting was stopped. Four schools got seized by masked men; all the people had to be evacuated.

“They threatened us and said that they were sent by the Kiev authorities,”Sergey, a local resident, told RT.

By that time, over 47,000 people had cast their ballots, self-defense forces said.

` Nine Red Cross Workers Were Released By Pro-Russian Separatists ‘

#AceWorldNews – UKRAINE – DONETSK – May 10 – Nine Red Cross workers were released on Saturday by pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine, a day after the eight Ukrainians and one Swiss national were detained, the aid group said.

“Now they will take up their humanitarian work and prepare a medical evaluation,” International Committee of the Red Cross spokesman David Pierre Marquet said.

Their capture in the volatile eastern province of Donetsk occurred as security forces clashed with armed pro-Russian separatists in the port city of Mariupol near the Russian border.

Local authorities said seven people were killed and about 50 injured.

The government in Kiev said security forces killed about 20 pro-Russian militants.

Kiev has sent in forces in a bid to reassert control of the restive east, inflaming the pro-Russian faction. On Saturday, the National Guard withdrew from central Mariupol, which was largely calm.

` Shooting, Military Vehicles Including Tanks and Armed Fighters Clad in Black Uniforms in Centre of Mariupol’

#AceNewsServices – UKRAINE – May 09 – Shooting, military vehicles and armed fighters clad in black uniforms are reported to be in the centre of Mariupol in Eastern Ukraine. Unconfirmed reports suggest one person has been killed and four wounded in the offensive.

Many people came to mark Victory Day, but as the reports of shooting started coming in, they moved on to show support for a few dozen policemen who had barricaded inside the building, refusing to take orders from Kiev.

Federalization supporters screamed “Fascists!” as the Kiev forces approached.

One of the armoured vehicles then opened fire at a group of unarmed civilians, according to a self-defence forces’ representative.

RT’s stringer in Mariupol has been injured while trying to film and is now in hospital. Doctors say that in spite of his bulletproof vest he has sustained an injury to the stomach.

“About 1,500 people left the parade and went to the local interior ministry HQ. People in camouflage confronted them, shooting into the air using lethal weapons,” a witness told Interfax.

tanks, national guard and gunfire in #Mariupol today on #VictoryDay reports @Ruptly producer on the ground. Footage expected soon
Lizzie Phelan (@LizziePhelan) May 9, 2014
The witness also stated that another group of city residents set a car tire on fire next to the city council building.

Earlier, self-defense forces in Mariupol reported that armed people had tried to seize the local city department of the Interior Ministry.

“Camouflaged people are storming the building of the city’s interior ministry department. A bus with soldiers has driven up – they are from a military unit located in the vicinity of Mariupol. Policemen who refuse to obey Kiev regime’s orders are being detained,” a representative of the self-defence forces told Interfax.

The self-defence forces also said that “policemen of the city department refused to obey Kiev’s orders and guard the building of the city council, which had been seized a day earlier by the Ukrainian security services. As a result, Kiev authorities decided to storm the building of the city Interior Ministry department, policemen are shooting back, the building is surrounded.”

The information on the number of casualties is now being checked, the self-defence forces representative said.

Self-defence forces say the government forces used heavy weaponry while storming the local branch of the Interior Ministry. “Armoured vehicles approached the building and opened fire with heavy weapons. The building is old and has thick walls, so you can’t penetrate it with machine gun fire,” a representative of the self-defence forces told Interfax news agency.

City streets are now on lock-down for transport and pedestrians, as armoured vehicles are approaching from the airport outside the city.

“Yesterday we were told that some provocations were being prepared, but people didn’t believe it, so a Victory Day parade was scheduled for 9am today,” a local resident, who identified herself as Victoria, told RT.

Ukrainian MP Oleg Lyashko claims that forces loyal to the Kiev coup-installed government have orders “not to take anyone alive.”

He wrote in his Facebook account that “the perimeter around the Interior Ministry department building in Mariupol is completely blocked by the armed forces. Terrorists are barricaded inside and are now returning fire. An order has been issued not to take anyone alive.”

*BREAKING NEWS* Ukraine: Helicopter Shot Down Over Slavyansk

A Ukrainian helicopter has been shot down over the pro-Russian stronghold of Slavyansk as fighting there continues to worsen.
Ukraine’s defence ministry said the pilots had survived but elsewhere in the east of the country four paramilitary policemen were shot dead in fighting.
A number of other rebels and civilians are also thought to have been killed or injured, according to Sky’s Stuart Ramsey, who is in eastern Ukraine.

The helicopter, an Mi-24, came under fire from a heavy machine gun and crashed into a river.
The ministry said in a statement the crew were evacuated to a nearby camp but did not give any detail of their condition.
At least three other helicopters have been shot down by pro-Russian rebels in the violence that is increasing in eastern parts of the country.
Pictures shot by news wires showed pro-Russia rebels carrying rocket launchers and rocket propelled grenades.
The four police officers were killed in fighting near Slavyansk after Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said they were ambushed by separatist rebels on the outskirts of the city of 118,000.
The fighting has been intensifying since the Ukrainian forces began an operation to remove the rebels from the strongholds in a number of eastern towns and cities.
Reuters reported that cars were ferrying the wounded from the sites of the clashes but there were no figures for fatalities on the side of the separatists.
One civilian woman in Slavyansk was reported to have been hit in the head by a bullet, and pictures showed the funeral of a 21-year-old nurse Yulia Izotova, in Kramatorsk, who was said to have been killed in fighting in the surrounding area in the days before.
