BRUSSELS: ‘ EU Ready to Appeal to WTO Over Russian Import Bans Due to Lose of Billions of Euro’s in Trade ‘

#AceWorldNews – BRUSSELS – August 07 – The EU is ready to appeal to the World Trade Organization to have the Russian agriculture import bans lifted, a European diplomatic source told ITAR-TASS.

“Politically motivated large-scale trade restrictions are a direct violation of WTO rules, which Russia pledged to comply with,” the diplomat said. “These measures will be thoroughly analysed, and then relevant claims will be submitted with the WTO.”

The source added that the European Commission would start analysing Russia’s ban on imports from EU states as soon as the official list of banned goods would be published.

The EU Council may convene an urgent meeting in connection with Russia’s response to European sanctions.

It is early to say whether the EU will take measures in response to the Russian ban on imports of food products from Europe, source told.

“First, it is necessary to see and analyse the official list of product that Moscow intends to ban. After that, decisions will be made both at the European and the national level,” the source stressed.

The Russian ban on agricultural imports from the European Union is an “irresponsible measure” that can lead to losses of billions of euro for European as well as Russian consumers, the source told ITAR-TASS.

‘ Obama Administrations New List of Sanctions Targeting Financial and Defence ‘

#AceBreakingNews- UNITED STATES (Washington) – July 16  – The Obama administration has introduced a new list of sanctions unilaterally targeting individuals as well as financial institutions and defence companies which the US believes are involved in destabilizing the situation in Ukraine.

The US has moved to impose tougher sanctions against Russia over the tense situation in Ukraine. The new set of restrictions have been placed on Bank Rossiya and State Duma Deputy Speaker Sergey Neverov.

MORE: US readies to impose unilateral sanctions against Russia

The announcement comes after a meeting in Brussels with EU delegates, who so far failed to follow suit, instead the block is to consider their own package of penalties against Russia.

The European Union is yet to agree on measures to tighten sanctions against Russia but it stopped short of adopting measures advocated by Washington.

‘ Irish Judge Refuses Investigation into Facebook’s Alleged Sharing of Data from EU Users with NSA Timeline of Events ‘

#AceNewsServices – DUBLIN – June 18 – An Irish judge on Wednesday rejected an attempt by campaigners to force an investigation into Facebook’s alleged sharing of data from EU users with the U.S. National Security Agency.

High Court Justice Gerard Hogan, who has jurisdiction because Facebook’s European headquarters are based in Dublin, upheld an earlier decision by the country’s data protection commissioner to refuse to investigate.

(EU Data not Compliant under Safe Harbour)

Ahead of the hearing, the campaign group europe-v-facebook indicated it planned to appeal any such decision.

(Max Schrems, an Austrian Law Student)

(IrishExaminer) 30 April 2014 – The data protection commissioner was wrong to refuse to investigate a complaint that the Irish arm of Facebook could not permit the mass transfer of personal data to US intelligence services, it has been claimed.

Max Schrems, an Austrian law student behind a data privacy campaign group called Europe v Facebook, has brought a High Court challenge claiming Billy Hawkes wrongly interpreted and applied the law governing the mass transfer of personal data of Facebook users to the US National Security Agency when he rejected his complaint.

He is asking Mr Justice Gerard Hogan to quash that decision and refer it back to Mr Hawkes for reconsideration. He says the commissioner’s decision was irrational and wants a preliminary reference on the matter to be made to the European Court of Justice.

The commissioner, who found Facebook had acted within the terms of the EU-US data-sharing agreement called Safe Harbour, is opposing his action.

(Avoiding the Truth About Your EU Data)

According to Safe Harbour

The European Commission’s Directive on Data Protection went into effect in October of 1998, and would prohibit the transfer of personal data to non-European Union countries that do not meet the European Union (EU) “adequacy” standard for privacy protection. While the United States and the EU share the goal of enhancing privacy protection for their citizens, the United States takes a different approach to privacy from that taken by the EU.

In order to bridge these differences in approach and provide a streamlined means for U.S. organizations to comply with the Directive, the U.S. Department of Commerce in consultation with the European Commission developed a “Safe Harbor” framework and this website to provide the information an organization would need to evaluate – and then join – the U.S.-EU Safe Harbor program.

The U.S. Department of Commerce in consultation with the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner of Switzerland developed a separate “Safe Harbor” framework to bridge the differences between the two countries’ approaches to privacy and provide a streamlined means for U.S. organizations to comply with Swiss data protection law.

This website also provides the information an organization would need to evaluate – and then join – the U.S.-Swiss Safe Harbor program.

(Guardian) 30 September 2011 – Facebook is to be investigated by the Irish privacy regulator into how it handles users’ data across Europe.

In the next fortnight the Irish data protection commissioner will launch a wide-ranging privacy audit of the social network after complaints about how Facebook tracks its users on-line.

The Irish regulator will conduct the audit on behalf of authorities in 27 European states, including the UK.

The commissioner expects to complete the report before the end of the year, a spokeswoman for the regulator said.

‘German Government Express Concern Over Israeli Settlements Plan’

#AceNewsServices – BERLIN – June 06 – The German government is extremely concerned about Israeli plans to build more settlements in the occupied territories, Reuters said.

The Israeli move is being seen as a response to the inauguration of a Palestinian unity government backed by Hamas Islamists.

The German government is “very worried… because this step poses the threat of making efforts to continue peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians even harder,” said German government spokeswoman Christiane Wirtz, calling on both sides to avoid provocative steps.

Berlin urged the Israeli government to refrain from inviting bids to construct homes.

(PressTV) – This comes as UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has called on Israel to abide by international law and freeze settlement activities. Ban expressed deep concern over Israel’s plans to build more than three thousand settler units in the West Bank and East al-Quds (Jerusalem).

On Thursday, Tel Aviv ordered the construction of 3,300 more settler units in the occupied West Bank and East al-Quds.

According to Israel’s Housing Minister Uri Ariel, the decision is a response to the formation of a new Palestinian unity government.

Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) says it will appeal to the UN Security Council against Israel’s expansionism.

More than half a million Israelis live in over 120 illegal settlements built since Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and East al-Quds in 1967.

The developments come as Israel is currently faces a widening boycott campaign by some European businesses over its illegal settlement activities on the occupied Palestinian land.

Two of Europe’s biggest financial institutions have boycotted transactions with Israeli companies involved in the illegal settlement construction.

The European Union has also blocked all grants and funding to any Israeli entity based in the illegal settlements.

` G7 Demands Independent Investigation into Ukraine Atrocities ‘

No more decisions on sanctions against Russia have been announced.

Nevertheless, Herman Van Rompuy has refused to acknowledge disproportionate, un-targeted use of combat aircraft by the Ukrainian law enforces during an anti-terrorist operation conducted in the east of Ukraine, justifying the Kiev authorities as “exercising their legitimate right to establish order in the country”.

But, in February 2014 during street fighting between Maidan militants and militiamen in Kiev the European Union, NATO and a number of countries which belong to these organizations, made a number of critical statements, accusing the legitimately elected authorities of Ukraine of disproportionate use of force and stressed that using the army against the anti-government formations was inadmissible.

` Lithuania Last Baltic Nation Joins the Euro ‘

#AceBreakingNewsEUROPEAN UNION – Press Release – June 04 – Lithuania, the last Baltic nation outside the currency union, has been finally given green light to join the euro area, after its bid was turned down 8 years ago. The country could adopt a single currency on January 1, 2015.

The European Commission and the European Central Bank acceptedLithuania’s application on Wednesday.

“Lithuania’s readiness to adopt the euro reflects its long-standing support for prudent fiscal policies and economic reforms.

That reform momentum, driven in part by Lithuania’s EU accession ten years ago, has led to a striking increase in Lithuanians’ prosperity: the country’s per capita GDP has risen from just 35% of the EU28 average in 1995 to a projected 78% in 2015,” Olli Rehn, the European Commission Vice-President responsible for Economic and Monetary Affairs and the Euro, said in the statement.

The ECB looked at eight European Union countries – Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Sweden, and Croatia. Only Lithuania met all the criteria to join.

The ECB looked at eight European Union countries – Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Sweden, and Croatia. Only Lithuania met all the criteria to join.

The Council will make a final decision on the matter in the second half of July, after EU officials and state heads meet at the European Council from June 26-27.

Then the council will also agree on a set conversation rate for Lithuania’s currency the litas to the euro.

In order for a country to adopt the euro, it needs to tie its currency to the euro for a two-year period, as well as keep debt below 60 percent of GDP and inflation within 1.5 percentage points of the three lowest rates among the euro zone.

The European Commission said Lithuania’s key stumbling block of inflation has been overcome.

` Bilderberg New World Order’s Real Agenda ‘

#AceNewsServices – WORLDWIDE – May 31 – The officially released agenda of the prestigious Bilderberg club meeting is not true, claims RT show host Daniel Estulin, a longtime watcher of the ‘secret world govt’ group.

He says he obtained the real agenda for this year’s gathering in Copenhagen.

An insider leaked the list of talking points for the ongoing Bilderberg conference to the investigative journalist last week, he said. The list has nine items, seven of which he shared:

1. Nuclear diplomacy and the deal with Iran currently in the making.

The club has long been cautious of a possible alliance between Russia, China and Iran. The deal that would lift Western pressure from the Islamic Republic over its nuclear program would affect this possibility.

2. Gas deal between Russia and China.

It came amid a serious political crisis in Ukraine, which threatens Russia’s supply of natural gas to European nations. Moscow has diversified its gas trade by sealing a long-term contract with Beijing. Potentially, China may replace the EU as the prime energy trade partner for Russia, a situation which strengthens Moscow’s position in Ukraine by undermining Washington’s effort to isolate Russia and Kiev’s leverage through its control of transit gas pipelines.

3. Rise of nationalist moods in Europe.

The agenda was formed before the latest European Parliament elections, which cast a spotlight on the trend. Populist eurosceptic parties are winning the hearts of Europeans from the UK to Greece to Hungary, dealing a blow to the union’s unity. A nationally driven and divided Europe would be reluctant to take globalization for granted.

4. EU internet privacy regulations.

Edward Snowden’s exposure of the scale of electronic surveillance on the part of the US National Security Agency and its allies worldwide sparked a major protest from privacy-seeking people. European politicians can’t ignore the calls to protect people’s communication from snooping, which potentially makes data collection more difficult. At least not immediately, as indicated by the apparent scaling down of Germany’s investigation into the NSA’s alleged surveillance.

5. Cyberwarfare and its potential effect on internet freedoms.

The destructive potential of cyber attacks is growing rapidly as reliance on the internet in all aspects of life rises. But the threat of state-sponsored hacker attacks is what some governments may use as a pretext for clamping down on the internet, undermining its role as a medium for the sake of security.

6. From Ukraine to Syria, Barack Obama’s foreign policy.

Critics of the US president blame him for betraying America’s leadership overseas, citing failures to defend American interests in Syria and lately in Ukraine. Obama’s newly announced doctrine calls on scaling down reliance on military force and using diplomacy and collective action instead. Bilderberg members will discuss whether this policy is doomed.

7. Climate change.

This is a regular topic for many high-ranking discussions, not only the Bilderberg conference in Denmark. People suspicious of the elites call climate change a euphemism for the artificial deindustrialization of some nations, with the goal of keeping the global economy under the control of transnational corporations and the expense of potential hubs of economic growth.

The Bilderberg Group is a six-decades-old club for some of the world’s most influential individuals, politicians, officials, businessmen, academics and European royalty, regularly gathering to discuss global policy issues. Critics accuse them of acting as a shadow unelected government, would-be rulers of the world, which take decisions affecting billions of people behind closed doors, with little regard for the needs or wishes of the general population.

In an apparent bid to dissipate these accusations, this time Bilderberg made itsofficial agenda public. Among the 12 topics for this year’s conference were “the new architecture of the Middle East,” “Ukraine” and “The future of democracy and the middle class trap.”

` Petro Poroshenko Has Stated Ukraine Needs Direct US Military Aid '

#AceWorldNews – KIEV – May 29 – Ukraine needs direct US military aid, leading presidential candidate in the country’s elections told The Washington Post.

“Now we should create a new security treaty exactly like Lend-Lease,” Poroshenko said. “We should cooperate in military technical assistance and in advising assistance. We are ready to fight for independence, and we should build up the armed forces of Ukraine,” he stressed.

He also made it clear that he is ready to hold talks with Russia.

“I know [Russian President Vladimir] Putin quite well,” he said, adding that he is prepared for compromise over all issues except for Ukraine’s claim to Crimea and Kiev’s decision to strike an economic association deal with the European Union.

The US newspaper also quoted Poroshenko as saying Western sanctions against Russia over its position on events in Ukraine “are not strong enough”.

“His first challenge will be to rebuild a demoralized and decrepit Ukrainian army on the fly while trying to eliminate the threat” Poroshenko claims is presented by what he calls Russia’s involvement in events in Ukraine’s east, The Washington Post wrote.

IAEA: ` Iran Commits to Fulfil its Agreement with Six Negotiator’s on Islamic Republic’s Nuclear Program ‘

#AceWorldNews – VIENNA – May 24 – Iran is fulfilling its commitments under last year’s agreement with the six negotiators on the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said in a quarterly report distributed among the nuclear watchdog’s member countries on Friday.

The IAEA’s report said that since the start of the deal’s implementation by Iran in January 2014, the country has not produced enriched uranium higher than 5%, and its reserves of highly enriched uranium have dropped 81% to 39 kilograms from 209 kilograms as a result of dilution and conversion.

Iran says it needs nuclear power to generate electricity, but Western powers led by the United States claim Iran’s eventual aim is to create nuclear weapons.

The six international negotiators on Iran’s program – five permanent members of the UN Security Council (Russia, China, France, Britain and the United States) plus Germany – agreed at a meeting in Geneva on November 24, 2013 not to introduce new sanctions against Iran on the part of the United Nations, the European Union and the US.

They also agreed to lift certain restrictions for Iran in some fields.

The deal, under which Iran agreed to stop enrichment of uranium to higher than 5%, entered into force January 20, 2014.

` Speaker of the Federal Council Comments on Sanctions at Economic Forum ‘

#AceNewsServicesST. PETERSBURG, May 24, /ITAR-TASS/. The negative effect of the West’s economic sanctions against Russia is not as serious as Western nations hoped it would be, the speaker of the Federation Council, the upper house of Russia’s parliament, said while commenting on the results of a plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

Federal Council Economic Forum

“That’s because Russia has made a serious breakthrough in economic development in the past 15-20 years,” Valentina Matviyenko explained to an Itar-Tass correspondent.

“Our footholds are not only the energy and raw materials sectors, but also the military industrial sector and the airspace and nuclear industries,” Matviyenko said. “We have footholds that will prevent destruction of Russia’s economy and social sphere. All reasonable politicians realize that.”

The United States and the European Union have suspended cooperation with Russia in some spheres over Moscow’s position on Ukrainian developments. Some Russian and Crimean officials and companies have been subjected to sanctions by Western nations, including visa bans and asset freezes, after Crimea’s incorporation by Russia.

Russia has dismissed the threats of further penalties, including economic ones, against it, saying the language of punitive measures is counter-productive and will have a boomerang effect on Western nations.

“The economic orientation of sanctions declared by Western nations has a political character,” Matviyenko said.

russia-spief-st-petersburg-economic-forum-story-top

She blasted “Western countries’ pressure on international economic and financial institutions, recommendations to Western companies not to strike deals with Russian companies, stiff pressure on company leaders not to attend the SPIEF”.

“For big world powers this looks a bit too small and frankly speaking unseemly, all the more so as such sanctions will not produce the desired effect,” the official said.

In this connection, the upper house speaker said “many European companies formally fulfill the EU’s sanctions demands” but at that “in the normal course of business continue business contacts, keep expanding their presence because no one is interested in losing such an advantageous, big and attractive market”.

“It’s more like a political club being swung above Russia to change its attitude on a number of problems, to deprive it of an independent foreign policy,” Matviyenko said. “But [these efforts] won’t succeed.”

She stressed that Moscow “has no plans to impose sanctions in response”.

“We believe that international financial and economic institutions should speak out here as such sanctions are out of line with the principles and norms set by international free trade and market competition,”

Matviyenko said in an interview with the Rossiya 24 television channel.

But “should the situation develop differently”, she said, Russia may impose tit-for-tat sanctions at a certain stage.

Instability embraced Ukraine after a coup occurred in the country in February. Russia’s position is that the Ukrainian authorities in Kiev, brought to power by the coup, are illegitimate.

The Crimean Peninsula, where most residents are Russians, held a referendum on March 16, in which most Crimeans voted to secede from Ukraine and reunify with Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the reunification deal March 18.

In the Soviet Union, Crimea used to be part of Russia until 1954.

Despite Moscow’s repeated statements that the Crimean referendum on secession was in line with the international law, the West and the de facto Kiev authorities refuse to recognize the legality of Crimea’s reunification with Russia.

After Crimea’s incorporation by Russia, massive protests against the coup-imposed Ukrainian authorities in Kiev erupted in Ukraine’s Russian-speaking south-eastern territories. Kiev has conducted a punitive operation against pro-federalization activists.

` Balkans Flood Victims Numbers Are Difficult to Count with Truths and Half-Truths the Order of the Day ‘

#AceNewsServices – BALKANS – May 19 – Approximately 25,070 people have been evacuated from flooded areas in Serbia, including 7,800 from Obrenovac, 40 kilometers west from Belgrade, which is the most affected by the disaster, Interior Ministry announced today.

Belgrave Floods

“The thermal power plants “Kostolac” and “Te-Ko B” are not flooded, personnel is ready and generation of electricity is under control”, Ministry added in the statement.

In floods that are affecting Serbia since last week at least 17 people have died. According to some media speculations, which have been rebuffed by the government, there are more than one hundred casualties only in Obrenovac.

According to official figures, there were 12 casualties in Obrenovac with more than 7,800 people evacuated. In 2011 the municipality had a total population of 71,419.

The whole town is flooded and evacuated.

The Interior ministry stated that the  situation is “especially difficult” in Krupanj, Sremska Raca and Jamen, all towns in the west of the country. Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic arrived in Krupanj today and delivered help to the citizens.

Nikolic’s media adviser Stanislava Pak said there are casualties in Krupanj municipality.

Crisis staff are not up to the task.

The citizens are upset and they have the right to express their dissatisfaction”, Pak told Beta news agency.

Predrag Maric, head of emergency situations sector, said that “rumours and half-truths are directed to provoke panic and distrust”.

“For two days we are appealing to people to evacuate themselves, but they did not want to… The siren has been turned on… People have been called on evacuation, but they have refused to do so, two days before this (flood) happened”, Maric told B92 television.

“Serbia can count on one billion EUR from the European Union solidarity fund, in order to overcome long-term consequences of disastrous floods”, Kristalina Georgieva, EU Commissioner responsible for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response said today.

Utah May Bring Back Firing Squad Executions

European Union export ban Due to its use for executions in the US, the UK introduced a ban on the export of sodium thiopental in December 2010, after it was established that no European supplies to the US were being used for any other purpose. The restrictions were based on “the European Union Torture Regulation (including licensing of drugs used in execution by lethal injection)”. From 21 December 2011 the European Union extended trade restrictions to prevent the export of certain medicinal products for capital punishment, stating that “The Union disapproves of capital punishment in all circumstances and works towards its universal abolition”. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lethal_injection

The real reason lethal injections may be stopped, so now, good old fashioned shot to death. I wish the Death penalty on many, but knowing the legal system as I do, I know many have and will be killed by mistake, and I am talking Worldwide here, this is barbaric USA!
A Utah politician wants to bring back firing squads as a method of execution after controversy over a botched lethal injection in Oklahoma. Republican Representative Paul Ray believes death by gun is a more humane and cheaper form of execution, and wants it to be an option for criminals sentenced to death in his state. He plans to introduce his proposal during Utah’s next legislative session in January. Lawmakers in Wyoming and Missouri tried to pass similar legislation this year, but both efforts failed. Mr Ray believes firing squads may seem more acceptable now, especially after drug shortages complicated lethal injections. The default method of execution in the US also came under heightened scrutiny last month when prisoner Clayton Lockett’s vein collapsed and he died of a heart attack more than 40 minutes later. “It sounds like the Wild West, but it’s probably the most humane way to kill somebody,” Mr Ray said.

Clayton Lockett died in pain after a botched lethal injection

“The prisoner dies instantly. It sounds draconian. It sounds really bad, but the minute the bullet hits your heart, you’re dead. There’s no suffering.” However, critics say things can go wrong with any method of execution. They cite a case from Utah’s territorial days in 1897, when a firing squad missed Wallace Wilkerson’s heart and it took him 27 minutes to die. tah outlawed firing squads in 2004, citing the excessive media attention it gave inmates. But those sentenced to death before that date still have the option of choosing it. The last execution by rifle in the state was 2010, when five police officers used .30-caliber Winchester rifles to kill Ronnie Lee Gardner, who murdered a lawyer in 1985 while trying to escape from a courthouse. Ray’s proposal would give all inmates the option to be shot. Opponents say firing squads are not necessarily a foolproof answer. It is possible an inmate could move or police could miss, causing the inmate a slow and painful death, said Richard Dieter, executive director of the Death Penalty Information Center, which opposes capital punishment.

` African Countries Declare War on Boko Haram and Agree Joint Cooperation to Tighten Borders ‘

#AceNewsServices – NIGERIA – May 17 – Countries neighbouring Nigeria are ready to wage war against the Nigeria-based, al-Qaeda-linked group, Boko Haram, Chad’s president says.

Idriss Deby made the statement after a summit in Paris on Saturday that also included Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan and representatives from West African countries Cameroon, Benin, Niger plus the United States, the European Union, Britain and France.

“There is determination to tackle this situation head on…to launch a war, a total war on Boko Haram,” Deby said after the meeting, which was aimed at finding a common strategy to fight the armed group.

The leaders who attended the meeting agreed on tightened border controls, shared intelligence and to take a collaborative approach when fighting the armed group.

Jonathan said Boko Haram had evolved from a small group to being part of the broader al-Qaeda organisation.

“Boko Haram is no longer the local terror group with some regional sentiment that started in Nigeria in 2002 to 2009,” Jonathan said.

“From 2009 to date, it has changed and is operating clearly as an al-Qaeda organisation. It can better be described as an al-Qaeda in West and Central Africa.”

Francois Hollande, the French president, said Boko Haram had clearly established ties with other “terror” groups in Africa, making it a problem throughout the continent and beyond.

“The message we want to send is that we know the threat. It is serious, it is serious for the region, for Africa and so for Europe. We have deployed our military and intelligence system to find these young girls,” Hollande said.
