‘ NSA and FBI Covertly Monitored Emails of Prominent Muslim-Americans ‘

#AceWorldNewsUNITED STATES – July 18  – The National Security Agency and FBI have covertly monitored the emails of prominent Muslim-Americans—including a political candidate and several civil rights activists, academics, and lawyers—under secretive procedures intended to target terrorists and foreign spies.

asim-handshake

According to documents provided by NSA whistle-blower Edward Snowden, the list of Americans monitored by their own government includes:

Faisal Gill, a longtime Republican Party operative and one-time candidate for public office who held a top-secret security clearance and served in the Department of Homeland Security under President George W. Bush;

• Asim Ghafoor, a prominent attorney who has represented clients in terrorism-related cases;

• Hooshang Amirahmadi, an Iranian-American professor of international relations at Rutgers University;

Agha Saeed, a former political science professor at California State University who champions Muslim civil liberties and Palestinian rights;

Nihad Awad, the executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the largest Muslim civil rights organization in the country.

The individuals appear on an NSA spreadsheet in the Snowden archives called “FISA recap”—short for the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. Under that law, the Justice Department must convince a judge with the top-secret Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court that there is probable cause to believe that American targets are not only agents of an international terrorist organization or other foreign power, but also “are or may be” engaged in or abetting espionage, sabotage, or terrorism. The authorizations must be renewed by the court, usually every 90 days for U.S. citizens.

namesgrabredacted

The spreadsheet shows 7,485 email addresses listed as monitored between 2002 and 2008. Many of the email addresses on the list appear to belong to foreigners whom the government believes are linked to Al Qaeda, Hamas, and Hezbollah. Among the Americans on the list are individuals long accused of terrorist activity, including Anwar al-Awlaki and Samir Khan, who were killed in a 2011 drone strike in Yemen.

But a three-month investigation by The Intercept—including interviews with more than a dozen current and former federal law enforcement officials involved in the FISA process—reveals that in practice, the system for authorizing NSA surveillance affords the government wide latitude in spying on U.S. citizens.

The five Americans whose email accounts were monitored by the NSA and FBI have all led highly public, outwardly exemplary lives. All five vehemently deny any involvement in terrorism or espionage, and none advocates violent jihad or is known to have been implicated in any crime, despite years of intense scrutiny by the government and the press. Some have even climbed the ranks of the U.S. national security and foreign policy establishments.

“I just don’t know why,” says Gill, whose AOL and Yahoo! email accounts were monitored while he was a Republican candidate for the Virginia House of Delegates. “I’ve done everything in my life to be patriotic. I served in the Navy, served in the government, was active in my community—I’ve done everything that a good citizen, in my opinion, should do.”

FBI Chases ‘Ringleader’ Behind Cyber Threat

Leading on from this developing story here https://acenewsservices.com/2014/06/03/two-weeks-to-prepare-for-cyber-attack-as-word-cyber-wars-begin/
Via Sky News

The alleged mastermind of the major cyber threat facing all computer users goes by the online moniker “lucky12345”. And Evgeniy Mikhailovich Bogachev will need all the luck he can find to evade justice – because he currently sits at the top of the FBI’s cyber-crime most wanted list. The 30-year-old Russian is said to be the leader of the gang accused of stealing more than $100m (£60m) by installing viruses on hundreds of thousands of computers around the world. US authorities say the group – whose members come from Russia, Ukraine and Britain – infected computers with software that captured passwords and account numbers, allowing them to steal from their victims.

The racketeering enterprise has been installing the malicious software, such as GOZeuS and CryptoLocker, on computers since 2009. The botnet used to carry out the

attacks has been temporarily disrupted, and computer users have been warned they have just two weeks to improve their online security. The clock is ticking for computer users around the world, but also for Bogachev, who is thought to be in a location somewhere in Russia or around the Black Sea. He is a keen boater and is known to sail around the Black Sea, bordered by countries including Bulgaria, Turkey and Georgia.

He was last known to reside in Anapa, Russia, and also owns property elsewhere in the country in Krasnodar. Bogachev, who also uses the online handles “slavik” and “Pollingsoon”, is described as 5’9 (175cm) and weighs around 180lbs (81kg). He has brown hair but in most photographs he has a shaved head. Bogachev is “a true 21st century criminal, who committed cyber crimes across the globe with a stroke of a key and the click of a mouse,” said James Cole, US deputy attorney general.

Criminal and civil allegations were filed in Pittsburgh against Bogachev because some of the victims were from western Pennsylvania. The charges included conspiracy, wire, bank and computer fraud, and money laundering. The victims of the different schemes include an American Indian tribe in Washington state; an insurance company and a company that runs assisted-living centres in Pennsylvania; a local police department in Massachusetts; a pest control company in North Carolina; and a restaurant operator in Florida.

FBI issues nationwide alert for San Francisco man

42-year-old Ryan Kelly Chamberlain II

The FBI has issued a nationwide alert to law enforcement agencies about a San Francisco social media consultant they consider armed and dangerous who is wanted on suspicion of possessing explosives. FBI spokesman Peter Lee said Sunday that 42-year-old Ryan Kelly Chamberlain II was last seen in a dark blue, hooded sweatshirt and jeans. Multiple agencies, including hazardous materials crews, searched Chamberlain’s apartment in San Francisco’s Russian Hill neighborhood on Saturday, blocking off the street to vehicle and pedestrian traffic for much of the day. Lee gave no details Sunday about the nature of the investigation, but said authorities believe Chamberlain is acting alone. “We believe he is alone in the vehicle but we just don’t know, again, where his ties or his network is so we ask that any members of the public be on the lookout for anyone that matches this man’s description,” Lee said at a press conference outside FBI headquarters on Sunday. Chamberlain is traveling in a white 2008 Nissan Altima with Texas or California license plates, but authorities do not know where he is heading, Lee said.

His boss at a music rights consultancy group said he last contacted her Friday to remind her to deposit his paycheck at a new bank account. Brooke Wentz said the conversation was uneventful and that she was “tremendously dumbfounded” by the news that the contractor she hired to handle her company’s social media accounts was wanted by the FBI. “He’s a nice guy,” Wentz told The Associated Press.

Wentz said it didn’t seem like Chamberlain was staying in the apartment on Jackson Street. She said when she mailed him his paycheck in April, he told her he would have to go the apartment to pick it up. She said he seemed under financial pressure because he told her that two friends who were leasing his apartment left without telling him and he had to scramble to pay for two rentals. “I wondered what kind of friends would do something like that? I tried to ask him about the situation but he was kind of evading my question,” Wentz said. Randy Bramblett, a personal trainer and professional athlete in San Francisco, said he became friends with Chamberlain through Project Sport, a local sports marketing company. The company let Chamberlain go when it was sold in November and he soon lost touch with friends and stopped returning calls and messages, Bramblett said.

Via AP

“We all knew that he was a very emotional guy and when he didn’t get his own way he would say ‘Screw you, I’m going to go do my own thing,'” Bramblett said. “I’ve never seen him be violent, ever, but I would definitely say that maybe emotionally and mentally he was a little unstable.” Chamberlain had worked for years as a political consultant on Democratic campaigns, Bramblett said. He also worked as an independent contractor for The San Francisco Chronicle during the 2012 NFL season, doing social media to boost coverage for the San Francisco 49ers Insider iPad app, the newspaper said.

A spokeswoman for the University of San Francisco said Chamberlain taught a “Grass Roots Mobilization” course to graduate students in the Public Affairs program in 2011. Anne-Marie Devine said Chamberlain taught for one semester, and wasn’t invited to teach another course. She said she didn’t know why because hundreds of adjunct professors come and go at the university. The affidavit and search warrant used to enter Chamberlain’s home remain under seal.

`FBI Agents Will Reportedly Join a US Team Heading to Nigeria to Assist Search for Abducted Girls ‘

#AceBreakingNews – NIGERIA – May 06 – Agents from the FBI will reportedly join a US team heading to Nigeria to help find the 276 abducted schoolgirls, according to Sky News sources.

A law enforcement source briefed on the US deployment to Nigeria told Sky News the FBI had offered to take part.

The source said the agents are likely to be from the New York FBI field office, which has responsibility for that part of the world. It is also the main counter terror operations unit.

The United States earlier announced that military personnel and law enforcement officials with expertise in hostage negotiations would be sent as soon as possible to assist the Nigerian government in the search.

State Department spokesman Jen Psaki said the offer of assistance was welcomed by Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan.

` CIA and FBI Consulting Kiev Authorities to Suppress Popular Protests and Build up Viable Security ‘

#AceWorldNews – BERLIN – May 04 – U.S. Central Intelligence Agency and Federal Bureau of Investigations are consulting with the incumbent authorities in Kiev at the instruction of the U.S. Administration, says the German weekly Bild am Sonntag weekly quoting sources in Germany’s power-wielding organizations.

The objective the U.S. intelligence services have been given is to suppress the popular protests in the east of Ukraine and to build up a viable security structure for the regime.

The newspaper claims however that neither CIA nor FBI officers are involved in combat operations unfolding in the east, and their entire activity is confined to Kiev.

Also, U.S. spies supposedly assist the regime in fighting with organized crime.

Bild am Sonntag recalls that CIA chief John Brennan visited Kiev in mid-April.

The chairman of Russia’s State Duma committee for international relation, Dr. Alexei Pushkov said then that the visit “exposed a close relationship between the incumbent government in Kiev and the U.S.”

Dr. Pushkov said with confidence that “the U.S. had supplanted the Ukrainian government and had installed a regime lucrative for itself.

` Founder of a Radical Islamic Website ` Revolution Muslim ‘ that Praised Osama Bin Laden Sentenced ‘

#AceNewsServices – UNITED STATES – April 26 – ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The founder of a radical Islamic website that praised figures like Osama bin Laden and Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan has been sentenced to 2½ years in prison for using the site to threaten Jewish groups.

Yousef al-Khattab, 45, of Atlantic City, N.J., had converted from Judaism and started the Revolution Muslim website in 2007.

Al-Khattab admitted posting articles encouraging readers to take unspecified action against Jewish leaders and publishing names and addresses of Jewish leaders and synagogues.

Prosecutors say numerous people who have been convicted of terrorism-related offences were readers of Revolution Muslim.

Defence lawyers say it is conjecture to assume people were inspired to plot attacks by Revolution Muslim.

(FBI) – October 31 – ALEXANDRIA, VA—Yousef Mohamid Al-Khattab (a.k.a. Joseph Cohen), 45, of Atlantic City, New Jersey, pleaded guilty yesterday to using his position as a leader of the “Revolution Muslim” websites to use the Internet to place others in fear of serious bodily injury.

Dana J. Boente, Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia; Valerie Parlave, Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI’s Washington Field Office; and Raymond W. Kelly, New York City Police Commissioner, made the announcement after the plea was accepted by United States District Judge Liam O’Grady.

Al-Khattab faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison when he is sentenced on February 7, 2014.

According to a statement of facts filed with his plea agreement, Al-Khattab and his colleague, Jesse Curtis Morton (a.k.a. Younus Abdullah Muhammad), founded the Revolution Muslim organization in December 2007 to operate Internet platforms and websites to encourage Muslims to support Osama bin Laden, Anwar Al Awlaki, al Qaeda, the Taliban, and others engaged in or espousing violent jihad.

On January 8, 2009, Al-Khattab posted to the Revolution Muslim website a video encouraging viewers upset about the conflict in Gaza to seek out the leaders of Jewish Federation chapters in the U.S. and “deal with them directly at their homes.” Al-Khattab gave the names and addresses of synagogues in New York and another Jewish organization in Brooklyn.

On January 20, 2009, Al-Khattab posted a video and photo of the headquarters of the Jewish organization in Brooklyn, with a map and directions to specific facilities. Al-Khattab also posted a link to “The Anarchist Cookbook,” which is a manual for (among other things) constructing and using explosive devices.

On January 23, 2009, Al-Khattab posted to the Revolution Muslim website a video accusing the Jewish organization of funding terrorism and urging viewers to find the leaders of Jewish organizations and “hold them responsible.”

` Hacker with Activist Group ` Anonymous ' Became Informant for FBI Directing Cyber-Attacks against Foreign Governments '

#AceSecurityNews – WASHINGTON April 26 – (DWN) – A hacker who became an informant for the FBI directed hundreds of cyber attacks against the websites of foreign governments, including Brazil, Iran, Pakistan, Syria and Turkey, the New York Times reported Thursday.

It was unclear whether the FBI explicitly ordered the digital attacks, but court documents and interviews suggest “that the government may have used hackers to gather intelligence overseas,” the Times wrote.

The figure at the centre of the case is Hector Xavier Monsegur, who had become a prominent hacker with the activist group Anonymous, which has staged cyber assaults on MasterCard, PayPal and other commercial and government targets.

Monsegur was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and became an informant, helping the law enforcement agency identify other members of Anonymous.

Monsegur’s location is unknown and his sentencing hearing has been delayed repeatedly, fuelling speculation that he remains an informant for the US government, the Times wrote.

The report reinforces allegations that the US government has exploited flaws in Internet security to spy on foreign targets.

The FBI was not immediately available for comment.

` US Intelligence Satellites Failed to Inform Law Enforcement When Some Employees and Contractors Admitted During Lie Detector Tests to Child Abuse Crimes'

#AceNewsServices – UNITED STATES – April 24 – The agency that controls US intelligence satellites failed to inform law enforcement when some employees and contractors admitted during lie detector tests to child abuse crimes, according to the intelligence inspector general.

The US National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), which operates surveillance satellites for the US intelligence community, was also found in other cases to have delayed reporting to authorities admissions of criminal activity uncovered during security clearance polygraph tests.

Two inspector general reports released Tuesday found these delays possibly imperilled evidence in investigations or even endangered children.

In one case, an NRO legal counsel advised employees against reporting admissions by a government contractor of child molestation, viewing child pornography, and sexting with a minor, according to the Office of the Intelligence Community Inspector General.

“Doubt we have enough to interest the FBI,” the NRO’s then-assistant general counsel told another agency official in an email, adding, “the alleged victim is fourteen years old and fully capable of calling the police herself.”

The NRO employee reported the confession anyway, revealing that the girl was still in contact with the contractor who had admitted to the crimes. The US Department of Justice was not informed of the confession for nearly five weeks, according to McClatchy news service.

Overall, 30 individuals of the 30,000 who took the NRO polygraph tests from 2009 to 2012 confessed to child abuse or possessing child pornography, the inspector general found.

The inspector general’s office referred for investigation seven confessions related to child pornography or child abuse that the NRO failed to report.

` FBI Seeking Public Assistance in the Investigation of an International Teacher Suspected of Molesting Children Abroad ‘

#AceNewsServices – UNITED STATES – April 23 – The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is seeking the public’s assistance to identify victims of suspected international child predator William James Vahey. Vahey, a United States citizen, was employed as a teacher in various private American schools abroad since 1972. Vahey was 64 years old at the time of his death by suicide in Luverne, Minnesota, on March 21, 2014.

From left: William James Vahey is shown in U.S. passport photographs taken in December 2013, July 2004, May 1995, and April 1986.

According to a search warrant affidavit filed on March 19, 2014 in the United States District Court, Southern District of Texas, FBI special agents sought a search warrant to access and search a USB thumb drive belonging to Vahey. The USB drive was provided to the FBI by an employee of the American Nicaraguan School, located in Pista Suburbana, Managua, Nicaragua. An employee of the school filed a complaint with the FBI alleging the USB drive contained pornographic images of minor males who appeared to be asleep or unconscious.

According to the report, the minors appeared to be middle school-aged, approximately 12 to 14 years old.

According to the employee, the folders containing the pornographic images were titled with locations and corresponding dates the employee believed referenced locations Vahey had previously travelled with students.

The employee stated that Vahey had been teaching ninth grade world history and advanced geography at the school since August 12, 2013. According to the report, when the employee confronted Vahey about the images, he confessed he was molested as a child and admitted he molested boys throughout his entire life.

He further reportedly admitted giving the minors sleeping pills prior to the molestation. The ongoing investigation has not yet identified what drugs, if any, were administered to any of the minor victims. The American Nicaraguan School terminated Vahey’s employment on March 12, 2014.

Through the ongoing investigation, FBI agents have reviewed photographs dating back to 2008 that depict at least 90 alleged victims. While the review is ongoing, the FBI is seeking to notify individuals of the existence of the investigation and encourage additional potential victims to come forward.

In addition to foreign nationals, the schools were attended by the children of American diplomats, military personnel stationed overseas, and other American citizens working abroad.

In 1969, Vahey was arrested in California on six counts of child molestation. Vahey pled guilty to one count of child molestation and was sentenced to 90 days in jail, followed by five years’ probation. Vahey’s conviction required him to register with the state of California’s sex offender registry for the remainder of his life.

However, Vahey had not renewed his registration as a sex offender since 1970.

FBI Encourages Victims to Come Forward and Seek Assistance.

` Russia Reportedly Declined Providing FBI with Information of one Boston Marathon Bombing Suspects '

#AceNewsServices – BOSTON – April 16 – (RFRL) – Russia has reportedly declined to provide the FBI with information about one of the Boston marathon bombing suspects two years before the 2013 attack.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, a native of Russia’s Chechnya region, is charged with killing three people and injuring 264 others when he and his brother planted two homemade bombs along the course of the Boston Marathon. Tsarnaev’s brother Tamerlan was killed by police after the attack.

Citing an unpublished U.S. government review, “The New York Times” quoted on April 9 a senior U.S. official as saying, “They found that the Russians did not provide all the information that they had on [Dzhokhar] back then, and based on everything that was available, the FBI did all that it could.”

The paper said U.S. lawmakers are to be briefed on April 10 on the report, authored by the inspector-general of the Office of the Intelligence Community.

Based on reporting by: The New York Times.

WASHINGTON – April 09 – (NYT) – The Russian government declined to provide the F.B.I. with information about one of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects that would most likely have led to more extensive scrutiny of him at least two years before the attack, according to an inspector general’s report.

Russian officials had told the F.B.I. in 2011 that the suspect, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, “was a follower of radical Islam and a strong believer” and that Mr. Tsarnaev “had changed drastically since 2010 as he prepared to leave the United States for travel to the country’s region to join unspecified underground groups.” http://www.nytimes.com/2014/04/10/us/russia-failed-to-share-details-on-boston-marathon-bombing-suspect.html

` How the FBI became the Wealthiest ` Bitcoin ‘ Operator in the World just by shutting down Silk Road ‘

#AceNewsServices – UNITED STATES – April 14 – When the FBI shut down the Silk Road, an internet black market, in October it also seized the accused owner’s assets and inadvertently became one of the wealthiest bitcoin operators in the world.

When the FBI shut down the notorious online marketplace it made international headlines and began a worldwide discussion about how stable the future of bitcoin really is. Investigators have admitted that they seized hundreds of thousands of bitcoins from the Silk Road and its operator Dread Pirate Roberts, allegedly the on-line persona of one Ross Ulbricht.

A new report from Wired magazine indicates that the FBI is now in control of two addresses, or wallets, holding bitcoin worth as much as $120 million. That total would make the law enforcement agency the second-largest bitcoin holder in the world behind only Satoshi Nakamoto, the currency’s inventor, who is thought to have mined one million bitcoin in the technology’s earliest days.

There is a total of 12 million bitcoins in circulation and the FBI’s haul from the Silk Road raid means the bureau has more than even Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss. The Winklevoss twins, who became famous when they sued Mark Zuckerberg for allegedly stealing their idea for Facebook, said in July of this year that they had taken control of roughly one percent of all bitcoins.

As of October, the FBI owned 1.5 percent of all the world’s bitcoin, Forbes reported. Less than a quarter-million people own a single bitcoin, although the number of accounts holding one bitcoin has grown from 159,916 to 246,377.

` Tamerlan Tsarnaev one of the suspected ` Boston Bombers ' behind the `Boston Bombing ' was Approached by FBI to Work as an Informant '

#AceWorldNews – Tamerlan Tsarnaev, one of the suspected bombers behind the Boston Marathon bombing last year, was approached by the FBI because of his extremist views and asked to work as an informant, according to court records filed by Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s defense team.

Attorneys for the younger Tsarnaev are expected to claim that he was under the influence of the dominating Tamerlan, 26, who was killed during a shoot-out with police days after the bombing killed three people and injured over 260 others on April 15.

In a 23-page court filing Dzhokhar’s defense team asked the court to force the prosecution to hand over more evidence in the case that would be useful to their argument. Included in the document was the assertion that the FBI, aware of Tamerlan’s radical Islamist views, asked him to work as an informant on certain factions in the Boston region.

The court request said “the FBI made more than one visit to talk with Anzor, Zubeidat [Dzhokhar and Tamerlan’s parents and Tamerlan, question Tamerlan about his internet searches, and asked him to be an informant, reporting on the Chechen and Muslim community,” as quoted by WBUR Boston http://www.wbur.org/2014/03/28/tamerlan-tsarnaev-fbi-informant

The defence speculated that Tamerlan may have misinterpreted the intention of the conversations, which may have acted as a “stressor that increased his paranoia and distress.” They specifically note that the interviews should not be interpreted as a motivation for the attack, only that they represent “an important part of the story of Tamerlan’s decline.”

“The underlying data concerning the brothers’ activities, state of mind, and respective trajectories is critical,” attorneys wrote, as quoted by the Boston Globe http://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2014/03/28/dzhokhar-tsarnaev-attorneys-seek-government-evidence-tamerlan-say-may-help-defense/PJoDIO3Tdf3zIau7VM9m8L/story.html adding that evidence “shows Tamerlan to have had a substantially longer and deeper engagement than his younger brother with extremist and violent ideology is mitigating for the light that it sheds on their relative culpability.”

`Activist `Ryan Shapiro is Suing Three Government Agencies for Failing to Comply with Freedom of Information Act ‘

#AceNewsServices – UNITED STATES – March 25 – Transparency activist Ryan Shapiro is suing three government agencies for failing to comply with Freedom of Information Act requests he filed in an attempt to uncover details about any role the United States played in the 1962 arrest of Nelson Mandela.

Shapiro — a doctoral candidate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a noted FOIA researcher — filed a lawsuit Monday morning in Washington, DC against the US National Security Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Defence Intelligence Agency after his requests for details about the anti-apartheid activist were rebuked by the US government .

He is already suing the Central Intelligence Agency for the same reason.

The US has long been rumoured to have played an instrumental role in the 1962 arrest of Mandela, and his name remained on a government terror watch list until 2008 — more than a decade after he completed his term as the first president of South Africa after spending decades behind bars.

Following Mandela’s death last December, Shapiro filed FOIA requests with the NSA, FBI, DIA and CIA days later in hopes of uncovering evidence about what role the US played with regards to the ’62 arrest.

He sued the CIA a month later over alleged non-compliance, but only this week he filed suit against the other alphabet soup agencies due to their failure to adhere to his request.

“Though the US intelligence community is long believed to have been involved in Mandela’s arrest, little specific public information exists regarding this involvement,” Shapiro’s lawyers wrote in this week’s suit.

Speaking to Democracy Now http://www.democracynow.org/2014/3/25/exclusive_nsa_fbi_dia_sued_over! Monday morning, Shapiro explained that “They are in violation of federal law, and so I am suing them to hold them accountable to federal law.”

“The records of government are the property of the people. Yet, unknown billions of pages are needlessly hidden from the American people behind closed doors and ‘classified’ markings,” he added in a statement.

NSA Invokes “National Defense” and the Espionage Act to Stonewall MIT Student’s FOIA Request on Nelson Mandela

“Undefined ‘national security’ concerns ostensibly legitimize this secrecy,” he continued. “It’s not surprising those in power wish to keep their actions secret.

What’s surprising is how readily we tolerate it.”

SEA: ` Reportedly obtained Documents that reveal how much Money the `FBI ‘ pay `Microsoft ‘ to view client’s Data ‘

#AceSecurityNews – Syrian Electronic Army (SEA) hackers have reportedly obtained documents that reveal how much money the FBI pays Microsoft each time agents try to obtain or view an individual customer’s communication information.

syrian-hackers-reveal-fbi-microsoft.siThe SEA, a group that has made headlines in the past for infiltrating Western media outlets that it perceives to be against Syrian President Bashar Assad, provided a trove of emails and invoices to the Daily Dot http://www.dailydot.com/news/microsoft-compliance-emails-fbi-ditu/, which analyzed the documents before publishing them.

“The documents consist of what appear to be invoices and emails between Microsoft’s Global Criminal compliance team and the FBI’s Digital Intercept Technology Unit (DITU), and purport to show exactly how much money Microsoft charges DITU, in terms of compliance costs, when DITU provides warrants and court orders for customers’ data,” wrote the Daily Dot’s Kevin Collier and Fran Berman.

Malaysian Airlines MH370 : ` Pilot of missing plane is photographed wearing a T-Shirt with ` Democracy is Dead' Slogan'

#AceWorldNews An image has emerged of the pilot of the missing Malaysia Airlines jet wearing a T-shirt with a ‘Democracy is Dead’ slogan as it has been revealed he could have hijacked the plane in an anti-government protest.

Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah, a father-of-three, was said to be a ‘fanatical’ supporter of the country’s opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim – jailed for homosexuality just hours before the jet disappeared.

It has also been revealed that the pilot’s wife and three children moved out of the family home the day before the plane went missing.

It comes as FBI investigators say the disappearance of MH370 may have been ‘an act of piracy’ and the possibility that hundreds of passengers are being held at an unknown location has not been ruled out.

Officials also revealed that it is possible the aircraft could have landed and transmitted a satellite signal from the ground. If the plane was intact and had enough electrical power in reserve, it would be able to send out a radar ‘ping’.

` FBI refuses to run `Nationwide Background Checks ‘ on people applying to license `Legal Marijuana Businesses in Washington ‘

#AceWorldNews The FBI is refusing to run nationwide background checks on people applying to run legal marijuana businesses in Washington state, even though it has conducted similar checks in Colorado – a discrepancy that illustrates the quandary the Justice Department faces as it allows the states to experiment with regulating a drug that’s long been illegal under federal law, according to (Seattle) AP .

Washington state has been asking for nearly a year if the FBI would conduct background checks on its applicants, to no avail.

The bureau’s refusal raises the possibility that people with troublesome criminal histories could wind up with pot licenses in the state – undermining the department’s own priorities in ensuring that states keep a tight rein on the nascent industry.

`Classified Documents leaked last summer by #NSA whistle-blower #Edward-Snowden reveal information about `Call Information'

AceSecurityNews says that classified documents leaked last summer by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden revealed that the intelligence agency currently compels at least three major telephone providers – Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T – to turn over call information on millions of Americans.

Among that information, known as metadata, is the duration of the call, the time the call was made, who the phone call was to, and where it originated.

Snowden disclosed a trove of secret information about US intelligence activity to the press, but the collection of phone metadata has been perhaps the most controversial, in part because of its sheer breadth.

Senator Carl Levin (D-MI) was among those hoping to find more when, at a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing, he asked Alexander how the metadata is collected and stored.

“Chairman, I think there are three options that you put on the table,” Alexander replied.

“You mentioned the government holding it, the ISPs holding it. I think there is yet another option where we look at what data you actually need and only get that data.

“Can we come up with a capability that just gets those that are predicated on a terrorist communication? I think you have those three options that I have put on the table,” he continued. “Those are three of the ones that I think need to be clearly discussed and the merits from both sides, they have pros and cons on the agility that you would have with the program.”

Alexander was referring to possible reforms to the NSA set forth by US intelligence and law enforcement leaders earlier this week.

US President Obama, who has said he is open to reforming the surveillance programs after public scrutiny, tasked the attorney general and other administration officials to propose theories on how the phone metadata collection program could remain in use.

The most radical proposal, according to anonymous sources who spoke to the Wall Street Journal, would be to entirely abandon the collection of telephony metadata.

Officials are also considering turning that vast datalogue over to a government agency other than the NSA – either the FBI or Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, perhaps.

Alexander’s testimony seemed to indicate that the scenario the administration is taking most seriously is leaving the trove metadata with the phone company, with the NSA only forcing the company to handover information about numbers thought to be involved in a web of terrorism.

` Boston Bomber suspect `Dzhokhar Tsamaev’ and his lawyers seek to get certain charges dismissed as repetitive’

#AceWorldNews says that the Boston marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev made a “statement to his detriment” while meeting with his sister, US prosecutors said Friday.

An FBI agent that was monitoring the meeting claims that Tsarnaev, 20, “was unable to temper his remarks.” Prosecutors did not reveal what Tsarnaev said.

Also on Friday Tsarnaev’s lawyers announced they will seek to dismiss a number of the charges against their client, claiming some of them are repetitive.
