LIBYA: ‘ SHUTS OIL EXPORT TERMINAL DUE TO INFIGHTING BETWEEN GOVERNMENT FORCES ‘

#AceWorldNews – LIBYA:Dec.14 – Libya’s eastern oil export terminal has been shut this Sunday due to fighting between forces representing the country’s two governments, according to an oil official, Reuters reports.

Air strikes on Saturday, launched by forces loyal to Libya’s recognized government, hit targets at the port in an attempt to stop an advance by troops of the rival administration in Tripoli, who want to take control of the oil facilities.

Libya’s recognized prime minister has been forced into the East of the country since the Libya Dawn militia seized Tripoli in August.

‘IRAQI MILITARY ARE PLANNING 80,000 TROOPS ADVANCE TO LIBERATE MOSUL ‘

#AceNewsServices – MOSUL – Nov.18 – An Iraqi military operation to liberate Mosul from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) will be launched at the start of the new year, Iraq’s Nineveh governorate council has announced.

Speaking to Asharq Al-Awsat, council member Ghazwan Hamid said around 80,000 troops will be involved in the offensive, and that preparations for the operation were already under-way.

Iraqi soldiers who fled their posts in Mosul upon the city’s capture by ISIS back in June will be reintroduced into the Iraqi Army as part of the operation, Hamid said.

Members of the Nineveh police force will also be involved, as will fighters from the Kurdish Peshmerga, “who will be contributing to the operation by capturing the Nineveh plains area [which borders the northern and eastern regions of Mosul], and then surrounding the city from every direction.”

Training camps for the operation have now been set up in the Kurdistan region, Hamid said, adding that many of those currently being trained were previously members of the Iraqi armed forces.

“As for the rest, they comprise volunteers and members of Nineveh’s police force, all of whom need intense training in order to ready them for the upcoming battle,” he said.

Mosul is the Nineveh governorate’s capital city.

BRITAIN: ‘ CAMERON REVEALS DETAILS OF NEW-COUNTER-TERRORISM BILL ‘

#AceWorldNews – BRITAIN – Nov.14 – British Prime Minister David Cameron revealed some details about the nation’s new counter-terrorism bill, which will be officially presented later in November.

One of the measures includes a right to refuse British nationals returning to the UK after being involved in jihadist fighting abroad, Cameron said in an address to Australia’s parliament on Friday.

Other parts of the bill will deal with airlines – such as not allowing certain airlines to land on UK territory if they do not comply with British no-fly lists and security screen procedures.

Cameron made the first mention of the laws in September.

Britain raised its security threat level to the second-highest in August due to increasing danger posed by returning Islamic State fighters from Iraq and Syria.

“We have to confront this threat at its source,” Cameron said in Canberra.

‘ US & IRAN GAPS WIDEN OVER NUCLEAR DEAL & DENIAL OVER ISLAMIC STATE COOPERATION ‘

#AceWorldNews – GENEVA – Nov.08 – The top U.S. diplomat described “real gaps” Saturday in waning negotiations to limit Iran’s nuclear-program, but steadfastly denied that any deal struck would also bring a promise of stronger cooperation between Washington and Tehran on fighting Islamic militants AP reported.

Despite the urgency to end years of negotiations by a looming Nov. 24 deadline, Secretary of State John Kerry said that there was no linkage between the nuclear talks and even an indirect U.S.-Iran partnership to combat the Islamic State group that has ravaged much of Iraq and Syria.
