AIR ALGERIE AH5017: ' Hezbollah Leader and French Military Were On-Board at Time of Crash '

#AceWorldNews – ALGIERS – July 27 – According to latest information that either 116 or 118 people on board the Air Algerie flight AH5017 which crashed in the restive northern Mali, at least 33 French military personnel including three senior intelligence officials and a Lebanese Hezbollah leader were present, it has emerged reported IBTimes

Even as the Algerian authorities have asserted that the real cause of the crash could be established only after a thorough investigation, they have not ruled out a terror attack either.

The exact number of people present in the aircraft, a McDonnell Douglas-83, is still unclear – whether it was 116 or 118.

But the local daily Echorouk, citing sources, said there were French troops on board.

There were at least 19 Lebanese passengers and some of them were dual citizens, including an alleged senior Hezbollah figure, who was disguised as a businessman.

A team of Lebanese experts is also on its way to Mali to assist the ongoing investigation.

Meanwhile, militants from the Movement for Oneness and Jihad in West Africa (MOJWA), locally known as Tawhid and Jihad in West Africa, are said to be stationed near the crash site, which is not far from their stronghold.

The al-Qaeda-inspired outfit is believed to be holding an arsenal of missiles in its possession which were smuggled from Libya.

However, experts have firmly ruled out any ground-to-air attack that brought down the plane.

But speculation over a criminal incident linked to explosives inside the Burkina Faso-Algiers flight has also surfaced.

"We rule out — and have from the start — any ground strike," French junior transport minister Frédéric Cuvillier told France Two television.

‘ Doha Will Host Meeting Between Mahmoud Abbas and Ban Ki-Moon Over Gaza ‘

#AceBreakingNews – DOHA – July 20 – Doha has announced it will host a meeting between Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Sunday, which will look to try and push for an end to fighting in the Gaza strip, according to a senior source from the country reported RT.

The session is due to take place in Doha and will be chaired by the Gulf state’s emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, who has been acting as a “channel of communication” between the Islamist Hamas group and the international community, said the source.

“Qatar has presented Hamas’ demands to the international community. The list has been presented to France and to the UN. The talks tomorrow will be to further negotiate these conditions.”

Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, has rejected Egyptian efforts to end the fighting, saying any deal must include an end to a blockade of the coastal area and a recommittment to a ceasefire reached in an eight-day war there in 2012.

The conditions include the release of prisoners re-arrested since a 2011 exchange deal with Israel, the opening of Gaza-Israel border crossings and an end to an Israeli blockade on the Gaza seaport, a Hamas source in Doha said.

“In general, Israel must end all forms of aggression and attacks, end the blockade of Gaza and remove the actions that resulted from its military offensive in the West Bank after June 12,” Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri told Reuters in the Palestinian Territories.

Egypt said on Saturday it had no plans to revise its ceasefire proposal, which Hamas has already rejected. And the Hamas source in Doha said the group has no plans to change its conditions for a ceasefire.

“We want the rights of our people. Palestinians on the ground are supporting us and we will get them back their rights,” said the source.

‘ Francois Hollande Promotes New Military Operation Being Rolled-Out in West Africa ‘

#AceWorldNews – FRANCE (Paris) – July 19 – French President Francois Hollande on Friday promoted a new military operation being rolled out in West Africa to take on a multi-faceted menace from Islamist groups that he warned threatened France’s interests and citizens reported Reuters.

France led a military intervention in its former colony Mali last year, halting the advance of al Qaeda-linked fighters who had seized control of the northern two-thirds of the country in 2012.

The military operation succeeded in scattering the Islamist groups in Mali, and Paris is in the process of reorganising its deployment in the region, with its 1,700 soldiers in Mali being folded into a broader counter-terrorism force.

Under the new plan, some 3,000 French troops will now operate out of Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger and Chad – countries straddling the vast arid Sahel band – with the aim of stamping out an Islamist threat across the region.

“There are threats, notably from Libya. Military hardware has accumulated there, and without a doubt, terrorists are seeking refuge there,” Hollande said in Niger during a three-day trip that will also take him to Ivory Coast and Chad.

“We have, therefore, decided to put in place structures and measures that will allow us to confront this threat of terrorism in the Sahel,” he said.

' Nicholas Sarkozy Charged with Corruption '

#AceWorldNews – FRANCE (Paris) – July 02 – The former French President, Nicolas Sarkozy, has been charged with corruption and illegally using his influence after a day in custody.

The disgraced politician was questioned by police for 15 hours, Le Monde reported, and was left without a lawyer when Thierry Herzog was also arrested along with two senior judges.

Sarkozy, 59, has become the first former French president taken into custody in a criminal investigation, making his widely anticipated political comeback look ever more unlikely.

The right-wing leader has been accused of multiple illegal dealings, mostly linked to the financing of his 2007 and 2012 election campaigns.

‘ French Justice Department Strip ‘FEMEN ‘ of Their HQ in Paris Under Illegal Occupation Ruling ‘

#AceWorldNews – FRANCE (Paris) – July 01 – The French justice department stripped the notorious international feminist organization FEMEN of its office in Paris suburbs, local media reported on Tuesday.

During several months, FEMEN activists were based in an illegally occupied house in the city of Clichy (Hauts-de-Seine) near Paris.

This old building belonged to the local service for waste-water treatment, but was not used for a long time. There, FEMEN members were living, cooking, rehearsing their acts and trained in self-defence in order to protect themselves from the police and guards during their manifestations.

The court of the city of Asnières-sur-Seine ruled to immediately oust the activists from these facilities.

In addition, the ruling says that the feminist organization shall pay about €7.4 thousand towards debt repayment for electricity that was consumed during their stay in the building.

FEMEN’s lawyer reported that he was studying the option of appealing the court ruling.

` Thousands of Students Demonstrate in France Against Far-Right National Front ‘

#AceNewsServices – PARIS – May 29 – Thousands of students have demonstrated in France against the far-right National Front (FN) party, following its success in the European elections.

About 4,000 students rallied in Paris, while smaller marches took place in Toulouse, Bordeaux, Nantes and outside the European parliament in Strasbourg.

The National Front came first in last week’s elections, winning 25% of the French vote and 24 MEP seats.

(The Party is Opposed to Mass Immigration, Free Trade and the Euro)

In Paris, students shouted anti-right wing slogans and waved banners reading “No to the National Front”.

One protester, Kevin Motillon, told AP news agency that “Behind [FN’s] anti-EU rhetoric there is also a xenophobic speech, a speech of hate and of rejecting others, and that seems completely unlikely in today’s world.”

However, correspondents say the turnout is small compared with previous protests against the FN.

` Boko Haram an Al-Qaeda Affiliate Attack Villages and Kill Twenty Eight in Nigeria ‘

#AceWorldNews – NIGERIA – May 26 – At least 28 people have died after Boko Haram, an Al Qaeda affiliate, attacked three villages in northern Nigeria burning houses to the ground, the police announced.

The assaults happened in Borno state in the heartland of Boko Haram’s increasing rampage.

The worst incident, resulting in 20 casualties was in the town of Kerenua, near the Niger border.

The United States, Britain, France and China last week offered Nigeria help to battle the Islamic insurgency in a mission to try to free the schoolgirls who were captured back in April and still remain hostage.

According to Reports:

Suspected Islamist gunmen opened fire on a market in a Nigerian village on Sunday, killing 20 people in the latest violence against civilians in the northeast of Africa’s top oil producer.

The assailants surrounded the village of Kamuyya, a military source based in the nearest town told Reuters. The militants shot people as they gathered to trade in its open air market.

Villages in Borno state, the epicentre of Boko Haram’s violent campaign to carve an Islamic caliphate out of religiously mixed Nigeria, have been under almost daily attack.

On Thursday, suspected Boko Haram gunmen rampaged through three villages in northern Nigeria, killing 28 people and burning houses to the ground.

Boko Haram made world headlines when it claimed the abduction of more than 200 school girls from the village of Chibok last month, prompting international outrage and persuading President Goodluck Jonathan to accept foreign help to try to free them, including a team of around 80 U.S. troops deployed to neighbouring Chad, and surveillance drones.

Since the girl were snatched on April 14, at least 470 civilians have been killed by the insurgents in various attacks, according to a Reuters count.

A spate of bombings across north and central Nigeria has killed hundreds, including two in the capital Abuja and one in the central city of Jos on Tuesday that killed 118 people.

A suicide bombing on Saturday that was meant to strike an open air viewing of the Champions League soccer final match in the central Nigerian city of Jos killed four people but failed to hit its target, the National Emergency Management Agency said.

IAEA: ` Iran Commits to Fulfil its Agreement with Six Negotiator’s on Islamic Republic’s Nuclear Program ‘

#AceWorldNews – VIENNA – May 24 – Iran is fulfilling its commitments under last year’s agreement with the six negotiators on the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said in a quarterly report distributed among the nuclear watchdog’s member countries on Friday.

The IAEA’s report said that since the start of the deal’s implementation by Iran in January 2014, the country has not produced enriched uranium higher than 5%, and its reserves of highly enriched uranium have dropped 81% to 39 kilograms from 209 kilograms as a result of dilution and conversion.

Iran says it needs nuclear power to generate electricity, but Western powers led by the United States claim Iran’s eventual aim is to create nuclear weapons.

The six international negotiators on Iran’s program – five permanent members of the UN Security Council (Russia, China, France, Britain and the United States) plus Germany – agreed at a meeting in Geneva on November 24, 2013 not to introduce new sanctions against Iran on the part of the United Nations, the European Union and the US.

They also agreed to lift certain restrictions for Iran in some fields.

The deal, under which Iran agreed to stop enrichment of uranium to higher than 5%, entered into force January 20, 2014.

` African Countries Declare War on Boko Haram and Agree Joint Cooperation to Tighten Borders ‘

#AceNewsServices – NIGERIA – May 17 – Countries neighbouring Nigeria are ready to wage war against the Nigeria-based, al-Qaeda-linked group, Boko Haram, Chad’s president says.

Idriss Deby made the statement after a summit in Paris on Saturday that also included Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan and representatives from West African countries Cameroon, Benin, Niger plus the United States, the European Union, Britain and France.

“There is determination to tackle this situation head on…to launch a war, a total war on Boko Haram,” Deby said after the meeting, which was aimed at finding a common strategy to fight the armed group.

The leaders who attended the meeting agreed on tightened border controls, shared intelligence and to take a collaborative approach when fighting the armed group.

Jonathan said Boko Haram had evolved from a small group to being part of the broader al-Qaeda organisation.

“Boko Haram is no longer the local terror group with some regional sentiment that started in Nigeria in 2002 to 2009,” Jonathan said.

“From 2009 to date, it has changed and is operating clearly as an al-Qaeda organisation. It can better be described as an al-Qaeda in West and Central Africa.”

Francois Hollande, the French president, said Boko Haram had clearly established ties with other “terror” groups in Africa, making it a problem throughout the continent and beyond.

“The message we want to send is that we know the threat. It is serious, it is serious for the region, for Africa and so for Europe. We have deployed our military and intelligence system to find these young girls,” Hollande said.

` US Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel Says Nuclear Talks Between Iran +6 Powers Will Not Undermine Security in Persian Gulf ‘

#AceWorldNews – TEHRAN – May 15 – US Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel says nuclear talks between Iran and six world powers will not undermine the security of the Persian Gulf region.

Hagel made the remarks on Wednesday in an opening speech to a conference with his Persian Gulf counterparts in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

He said Washington is hopeful of progress in the negotiations currently under-way in the Austrian capital Vienna between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council — Britain, China, France, Russia, and the United States — plus Germany.

“As negotiations progress, I want to assure you of two things,” the Pentagon chief told the (Persian) Gulf Cooperation Council – Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Bahrain.

“First, these negotiations will under no circumstances trade away regional security for concessions on Iran’s nuclear program.”

American/British Marines locate abducted Nigerian girls in Sambisa forest

There were indications yesterday that the 230 female students abducted by Boko Haram terrorists from the Government Girls’ Secondary School, GGSS, Chibok, Borno State, have been sited at the Sambisa Forest in Borno State, by the Special Forces of the United States Marines. Team work by USA, UK, France and China are, as we speak getting these girls home

The girls who were abducted on April 14, were part of the 250 students boarded at the school for the West African School Certificate, WASC/ Senior Secondary School Certificate, SSSC, examinations, triggering world-wide condemnations.

This was even as more US military officials arrived Nigeria yesterday to join local officials in the search for nearly 300 school girls taken captives by the Islamist extremist group, Boko Haram, the US Secretary of State John Kerry, and the defence department, Pentagon, said.

The UK team had earlier arrived in Abuja to support Nigerian government in its response to the abduction of over 200 school girls.

The arrival of the foreign troops is coming on the heels of the appeal yesterday by the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar for Nigerians to unite and fight the insurgents to achieve success.

According to Kerry, “Our inter-agency team is hitting the ground in Nigeria now and they are going to be working with President Goodluck Jonathan’s government to do everything that we possibly can to return these girls.”

The CNN also quoted the U.S. Navy Rear Admiral, John Kirby, who serves as Pentagon press secretary, as saying that the small team of seven would join advisers supporting local efforts to find the girls abducted over three weeks ago.

Kerry said the US team, working with the Nigerian government, would do everything possible to free the girls and everything possible to stop the atrocities of Boko Haram.

“We are also going to do everything possible to counter the menace of Boko Haram. The entire world should not only be condemning this outrage but should be doing everything possible to help Nigeria in the days ahead,” he added.

But there are no plans to send American combat troops into Nigeria, Mr. Kirby said.

The abduction of the school girls on April 14 in a remote community in Borno State, one of the most shocking terrorist acts by Boko Haram yet, has drawn widespread anger around the world with calls for a swift action.

President Goodluck Jonathan said Thursday that the kidnapping will be “the beginning of end” of Boko Haram.

US President Obama has said he hopes the abduction by Boko Haram will galvanize the international community to act against the brutal group that has directed much of its cruelty on civilians and the innocent.

This week, more than 100 people were killed in a busy market by militants suspected to be from the group. The attack occurred in Gamboru Ngala, Borno State, near the Nigerian border with Cameroun.

Besides the United States, Britain, France and China have also offered to help rescue the stolen girls.Obama said the team sent to Nigeria comprised personnel from military, law enforcement and other agencies.

France said it will station 3,000 troops in Nigeria’s neighbouring countries to help fight militants in the Sahel region.

British satellites and advanced tracking capabilities also will be used, and China has promised to provide any intelligence gathered by its satellite network.

` French Police Arrest Six People in France of Being Suspected Jihadists’ ‘

#AceNewsServices – PARIS – May 13 – French police arrested six people Tuesday in north-eastern France in a round-up of suspected jihadists’ who recently traveled to fight in Syria‘s civil war, the interior ministry said.

The sweep around dawn in Strasbourg came weeks after authorities announced a new push to prevent French militants from travelling to Syria, part of measures by many European governments to reduce the appeal of jihad.

Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said the six were suspected of participating in a jihadist network, and recently travelled to Syria — though he did not provide details.

In a brief statement at his ministry, Cazeneuve said the sweep “went down perfectly” and showed “the total determination of the government to fight with all its power against terrorism and the enlisting of youths in violent radicalization.” The suspects were in police custody.

Cazeneuve didn’t make any reference to a news report on Europe-1 radio earlier saying that the sweep involved a police investigation of 14 young men who had told their parents they were going on vacation in December but instead went to southern Turkey and eventually to Syria.

The minister said an investigating judge is handling the case, and declined to comment further.

Contacted by The Associated Press, spokespeople for the national police and the Paris prosecutor’s office — which handles terrorism cases across France — said they had no further information immediately.
