(SCOTLAND) Remembers Prince Phillip with a minutes silence & gun salute at Edinburgh Castle as his funeral begins at St. George’s chapel in Windsor Castle at 15:00hrs local time #AceNewsDesk report

Duke of Edinburgh: Scotland to fall silent to remember Prince Philip: A gun salute at Edinburgh Castle will mark the beginning and end of the national pause for reflection at 15:00 & at Prince Philip’s former school – Gordonstoun in Moray – pupils will fall silent for three minutes in tribute’

#AceNewsReport – Apr.17: Prince Philip’s long association with Scotland began with his schooldays in Moray and continued with family trips to Balmoral in Aberdeenshire every summer.

The duke died at Windsor Castle on Friday 9 April, aged 99. He was married to the Queen for 73 years.

A series of events are planned across Scotland to mark the day of the duke’s funeral.

Young sailors on board Gordonstoun school’s 80ft training boat, Ocean Spirit of Moray, will lay a wreath off the coast of Hopeman harbour, where the young Prince Philip learned to sail.

On the shore, a lone student piper will play whilst displaying the Duke of Edinburgh’s coat of arms on a banner presented to the Gordonstoun pipe band by the Queen in 2019.

In Aberdeen, a beach sand artist will create a large sand picture of the duke.

Elsewhere, the Royal Standard will be raised at the peak of Ben Nevis by members of the Outward Bound Trust to mark the duke’s support of the charity.

The trust will also raise flags at Snowdon in Wales, and Scafell Pike in the Lake District.

Seven Scottish Cup fourth-round ties have been moved to avoid a clash with the funeral, including the Rangers v Celtic match which will now be held on Sunday.

In horse racing, the Scottish Grand National at Ayr has also been delayed by 24 hours from its traditional Saturday slot.

Meanwhile new pictures of the duke sailing a boat during his teenage years at Gordonstoun have been released.

Philip was captured on camera in 1937 – when he would have been around 15 – at the helm of one of Gordonstoun’s boats, a two-mast, 14-ton boat named Diligent.

In another shot, he grins at the cameraman while helping with the washing up.

Philip’s time at the prestigious boarding school under the eye of his eccentric headmaster Dr Kurt Hahn, inspired him to start his Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme.

The images were taken by the great-uncle of a former pupil, who then contacted the school.

On Friday, Gordonstoun pupils took part in an early-morning run by way of tribute to Philip.

Morning runs were compulsory at the school until the 1990s and more than 100 students and staff, in household groups, ran a 3.5km route from Gordonstoun House to the nearby coastguard watchtower which Philip reopened in 1955.

The watchtower replaced a wooden hut which the duke, a member of the “Watchers” – a precursor to the Coastguard – helped build in 1935.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s affinity with the north east of Scotland has also been highlighted by the minister of Crathie Kirk, the church used by the royal family when at Balmoral Castle.

Rev Kenneth MacKenzie is the minister of the parish of Braemar and Crathie and domestic chaplain to the Queen, who visits the church for Sunday services with members of her family, when staying at the castle.

He said: “Over the last few days, many different tribes and nations have, with some justification, laid claim to the duke, and while I seek no argument with those who claim that he was ‘thoroughly European’, ‘archetypically British’, ‘adopted by the Commonwealth’, ‘Baptised Orthodox’, ‘Confirmed Anglican’ or whatever – let me try to set the record straight.

“I think HRH The Duke of Edinburgh was one of us.”

Rev McKenzie added he was a “man of faith with an active and enquiring mind” and said he had a keen interest in the church a national and institutional level, including the decisions and discussions of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.

The minister recalled: “He was never slow to question how this ‘so-called faith’ was being lived out in any given parish and community – and speaking for myself, I loved him for it.”

Prince Philip’s funeral will take place in the chapel at Windsor Castle at 15:00 BST on Saturday.

Images of a modified Land Rover designed by the Duke of Edinburgh to carry his coffin have been revealed: His modifications include the open top rear section, where his coffin will rest, and the military green colour.

How to follow the funeral on the BBC TV and radio details below:

Prince Philip dead:Duke of Edinburgh won’t have state funeral as he didn’t want ‘the fuss’ this is expected to have a royal ceremonial funeral in a socially-distanced service in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

The duke’s four children – the Prince of Wales, the Princess Royal, the Duke of York and the Earl of Wessex – as well as grandsons the Duke of Cambridge and Duke of Sussex, will follow the vehicle in a procession.

The Duke of Edinburgh began creating his own hearse in collaboration with Land Rover in 2003, the year he turned 82.

The duke, who served in the Royal Navy in World War Two, requested that the original Belize Green bodywork be switched to Dark Bronze Green, a colour used for many military Land Rovers.

He also designed the open top rear section where his coffin will rest, made to his exact specifications, including the rubber grips on silver metal pins known as the “stops” or “stoppers” which prevent the coffin from moving.

The vehicle also has matching green wheel hubs, a black front grille, a single cab and no registration plates.

The Defender was made at Land Rover’s factory in Solihull and the duke oversaw the modifications for several years, making the final adjustments in 2019, the year he turned 98.

The vehicle’s original role would have been to transport the duke from Wellington Arch in central London to Windsor, 22 miles away, but the coronavirus pandemic curtailed those long-held plans.

The duke used Land Rovers throughout his adult life and granted his Royal Warrant to Land Rover more than 40 years ago.

Prince Philip died at Windsor Castle on Friday 9 April. His body is now resting in the castle’s private chapel.

According to Buckingham Palace, the ceremonial parts of the funeral are in line with the duke’s wishes.

Coronavirus restrictions in England mean only 30 people, socially distanced, are allowed to attend funerals.

The mourners will be members of the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh’s families, including three of his German relatives. The procession and service will be televised.

NEW YORK: ‘ TENSIONS ARE RIFE AS THOUSANDS OF FELLOW OFFICERS PAY RESPECT TO ONE OF THEIR OWN ‘

#AceWorldNews – NEW YORK:Jan.04: Thousands of police officers are paying their respect to a New York Police Department officer shot to death along with his partner as mourners converge from around the country Sunday for a second funeral that stands to test tensions between the city’s mayor and police.

Buddhist monks will lead a Chinese ceremony for Officer Wenjian Liu, followed by a traditional police ceremony with eulogies led by a chaplain. Liu, 32, had served as a policeman for seven years and was married just two months when he was killed with his partner, Officer Rafael Ramos, on Dec. 20.

Officer Lucas Grant of the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office in Augusta, Georgia, said he came to Liu’s funeral with about six other officers from neighbouring departments “to support our family.”

“When one of us loses our lives, we have to come together,” Grant said.

As Liu’s family arrived for his funeral, Police Commissioner William Bratton tweeted: “We will never forget his sacrifice.”

A day earlier, mourners lined up for blocks on a cold, rainy day for Liu’s wake.

CROWDS GATHER FOR PRIVATE JOAN RIVERS FUNERAL
NEW YORK (AP) – Joan Rivers’ plans for an elaborate, over-the-top funeral may not be exactly what she will get, but it may be close. The comedian detailed in her 2012 book “I Hate Everyone … Starting With Me” that she hoped for “a huge showbiz affair with lights, cameras, action” and “Hollywood all the way.” Instead of a rabbi talking, Rivers asked for “Meryl Streep crying, in five different accents” and “a wind machine so that even in the casket my hair is blowing just like Beyonce’s.”
