#AceWorldNews – RIO DE JANEIRO:Dec.08 – The BRICS countries have approved a decision to establish a joint working group to devise a program for combating tuberculosis, a deputy Russian health minister said on Saturday.
“At the meeting in Brazil, special attention was paid to the problems of fighting against tuberculosis as this is a topical issue for all the BRICS group countries which significantly affect global statistics on this disease,” said Dmitry Kostennikov, who led the Russian delegation at the fourth meeting of BRICS health ministers in Brasilia on Friday.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), these five countries – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – account for around half of all the detected tuberculosis cases.
BRICS countries, which have 43% of the world’s population, are to decide how to “make the diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis under a 90/90/90 formula more accessible for the population,” the official said.
“The idea is that 90% of citizens should be examined, 90% of those infected should be provided with medicines and the treatment effect should be achieved in 90% of cases,” Kostennikov explained.
Russia already now “has possibilities to ensure 100% diagnosis and the same level of accessibility of medical aid, including first-level medicines,” the official said.
#AceNewsServices – WASHINGTON – Dec.07 – The House on Thursday passed the defence authorization to equip the Pentagon with necessary funding and programs for fiscal 2015.
Passage fell along a largely bipartisan vote of 300-119. It now heads to the Senate, where it is expected to be considered next week before the end of the lame-duck session.
House and Senate negotiators on Tuesday agreed to cut benefits to military families, though not by as much as the Pentagon had demanded.
The lawmakers released a new Defence authorization bill that increases families’ co-pays for prescription drugs under the Tricare health programme ‘ The Hill reported.
The bill would also reduce the planned rate of growth in the housing allowance provided to military families.
#AceWorldNews – WASHINGTON – Dec.01 – In mounting the latest court challenge to the Affordable Care Act, House Republicans are focusing on a little-noticed provision of the law that offers financial assistance to low- and moderate-income people The New York Times reported.
Under this part of the law, insurance companies must reduce co-payments, deductibles and other out-of-pocket costs for some people in health plans purchased through the new public insurance exchanges.
The federal government reimburses insurers for the “cost-sharing reductions.”
In their lawsuit, House Republicans say the Obama administration needed, but never received, an appropriation to make these payments to insurance companies.
As a result, they contend, the spending violates the Constitution, which says, “No money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in consequence of appropriations made by law.”
#AceWorldNews – WASHINGTON – Nov.27 – Barack Obama’s Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell recently told a group of Latino bloggers in an on line chat that the Obama administration wants to make Obamacare available for illegal aliens.
You may recall back in 2009 that Rep. Joe Wilson, a Republican from my home state of South Carolina, yelled out “You lie!” to Barack Obama. He was chided and maligned in the press and even by so-called “conservatives” for calling Obama what he is. But do you recall what he said Obama was lying about?
Let me refresh your memory.
First, Obama said that the idea of “death panels” was completely false. Now, that claim has been proven to be true.
However, it was his second attempt at deceiving the people (and yes, that’s what it was according to Obamacare architect Jonathan Gruber) was to claim, “There are also those who claim that our inform efforts would insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false.
The reforms I’m proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally.”
“You lie!” came the response from Wilson.
And just to be clear, Obama also claimed, “Under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions.” One must then ask why all the pressure to make employers provide for abortions and abortifacients if no money would be used to fund abortions under Obamacare.
#AceNewsServices – WASHINGTON – Nov.16 – The pitch for health care coverage is being made at nail salons, pizzerias, mosques and even bars.
As the second enrolment period under President Barack Obama’s health care law begins, advocates are employing new tactics and expanding old ones to reach people who need insurance.
Some groups are targeting populations they believe slipped through the cracks during the last enrolment period.
The Hills By David McCabe said HealthCare.gov — the ObamaCare federal insurance marketplace that failed to properly launch last year — opened for its second enrolment period Saturday with only minor glitches.
In the first eight hours after it opened, roughly 23,000 people nationwide successfully submitted applications to enroll or re-enroll in health insurance plans, Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell said while visiting a center in Virginia where workers were helping people sign up for insurance.
With Obamacare open enrollment about to begin anew, rumors of trouble in Healthcare Paradise run rampant.
Enrollment has dropped to 30% below Congressional Budget Office estimates; fully 1 million of the 8.1 million people who originally signed up for Obamacare dropped out.

#AceBreakingNews – WASHINGTON – Nov.10 – Conservatives in Washington are adamant that Senate Republicans should pass a full repeal of the healthcare law next year, even it if means a certain veto from President Obama.
With Senate Democrats likely to filibuster any stand-alone repeal bill, conservatives say incoming Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) should use a procedural maneuver known as reconciliation to muscle through a bill with 51 votes.

#AceNewsServices – UNITED STATES – November 03 – Thousands of Veterans who live in highly rural and remote areas, will now have free transportation to their VA medical appointments to receive the health care they need and have earned through service to our country.
The free transportation is made possible through VA’s Highly Rural Transportation Grants program.
Thanks to the latest CBS “60 Minutes,” American viewers witnessed the journey that brought Mariata and Sufiatu, two young girls suffering a deadly heart condition, from Sierra Leone to Sudan where they were treated at the Salaam Center, the only state-of-the-art facility that provides free cardiac surgery in Africa, run by EMERGENCY.
While the Salaam Center is the only facility to offer such special cardiac surgery care in the entire continent, EMERGENCY is also very active in Sierra Leone, among other countries, where we provide surgical and pediatric care and preventative medicine.
In 2001, when a bloody civil war that killed more than 50,000 people and forced many more to flee the country was coming to an end, EMERGENCY began a program for war victims in Goderich, a village near Freetown. Today that program has expanded to also include a Pediatric Outpatient Department kids are treated mainly for malaria, anemia and respiratory infections.
To learn more about the status of healthcare in Sierra Leone, we invite you to join us for an online chat with Sierra Leone former Information & Broadcasting Minister Cecile Blake, TV personality Nzinga Blake, and EMERGENCY USA Executive Director Eric Talbert on Thursday May 20, 2014 at 10 AM PT/1 PM ET. RSVP here to participate and send us questions via Facebook and Twitter.
California Obamacare enrollees are struggling to find doctors who accept their newly purchased health insurance plans.
I struggle in my tiny Scottish brain to understand and relate myself to American healthcare again here. I don’t know how other countries work, but today, same as every Monday I drive for my medication, or someone collects for me (I Still take some and have other medications at hand) to the chemist. I only see my Dr if there is a change in medication, mostly it is phone consultations as it’s often hard for me to make an appointment. I will get 8 items today in a big bag for free £$. In two weeks I have a scan on my knees planned last week at hospital, again for free. Should I decide I want to see my Dr today, I call before 10am, see him within 3 hours with any new medication, again FREE So why does the biggest, bestest nation on Earth have to keep people waiting months, charge hundreds of dollars a month and allow at least 500 Americans to die every day. A health service ranked about 30th best in the World.
As usual, links at the bottom
WHAT HAPPENED AMERICA? How can little old me get that in tiny Scotland (Totally different rules from England) and you can’t America? I feel guilt speaking to American friends always 😦 the ones who need medication badly and have to wait. In a system YOU pay for, you can’t have a say in what medication you need. North Korea has better health care 😦
UCSF Dr. Kevin Grumbach calls the phenomenon “medical homelessness.” CBS San Francisco says that many of the health care clinics for low-income individuals that helped people enroll in Obamacare are now seeing those same people “coming back to the clinic begging for help.” “They’re coming back to us now and saying, ‘I can’t find a doctor,'” Rotacare clinic staffer Mirella Nguyen told CBS San Francisco. “What good is coverage if you can’t use it?”
The problem stems from Obamacare’s “narrow networks” – extreme restrictions on access to doctors and hospitals in an effort to cut costs. California single mother of two Thinn Ong experienced the pain of Obamacare’s narrow networks when she realized that her $200-a-month Obamacare plan is not accepted by many of the doctors in her area. “Yeah, I sign it. I got it. But where’s my doctor? Who’s my doctor? I don’t know,” said a frustrated Ong.
CBS San Francisco reports that “Experts said the magnitude of the problem is growing, and will soon be felt by all Californians.” Breitbart News contributor Scot Vorse experienced the reality of Obamacare’s narrow networks when he discovered that the closest dentist who accepted the required dental plan he was forced to purchase for his children was over 100 miles away. Californians are not the only ones coming to terms with the reality of Obamacare’s narrow networks. In Staten Island, New York, Margaret Figueroa, who suffers from a neurological disease that has required four brain surgeries, says her Obamacare plan denied vital medications and dropped all her doctors. Figueroa’s congressman, Rep. Michael Grimm (R-NY), said he’s already received similar complaints from at least a dozen of his constituents.
Concerns that Obamacare’s narrow networks would spawn a medical homelessness crisis have been building for months. The Washington Post warned in January that “Obamacare’s narrow networks are going to make people furious.” Obamacare’s narrow networks crisis comes as vulnerable Democrats are scrambling to distance themselves from the president’s unpopular health care program. On Saturday, the New York Times reported that Obamacare has Democrats “running from it rather than on it.” Democratic Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-MA) said last week that Obamacare will cost Democrats dearly in the Nov. 4 midterm elections. “We will lose seats in the House,” said Lynch. “And I think we may lose the Senate. I think that’s a possibility if things continue to go the way they have been… primarily because of health care.”
A medical bill has been signed into law in Turkey that requires doctors to obtain government permission before administering emergency first aid. Critics have blasted the bill as a crackdown on doctors who treat activists injured during protests.
The bill, which was drawn up by the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), punishes health care professionals with up to three years in prison or a fine of almost $1 million if they administer emergency first aid without government authorization.
It also bans doctors from practising outside state medical institutions and aims to stop them from opening private clinics.
President Abdullah Gul signed the legislation into law Friday. It has prompted a flurry of accusations from rights groups, condemning it as an attempt to criminalize emergency health care and deter doctors from treating protesters.
Very unfortunate & concerning: Turkish President Gül has signed into law the #health bill criminalizing emergency #medical care. #Turkey
— PHR (@P4HR) January 17, 2014
The US-based Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) attacked the legislation as an attempt to quash dissent in Turkey, following last year’s violent protests.
“Passing a bill that criminalizes emergency care and punishes those who care for injured protesters is part of the Turkish government’s relentless effort to silence any opposing voices,” PHR senior medical adviser Vincent Iacopino said in a statement on the PHR website.
Describing the bill as “repugnant,” Iacopino said the legislation not only puts everyone’s health at risk, but also conflicts with the Turkish constitution and “must be blocked through Turkey’s constitutional court.”
The PHR says the bill will also put the medical community at odds with their ethical and professional responsibility to care for the sick and wounded.
The UN has implored the Turkish government to rethink the bill because it will have “chilling effect on the availability and accessibility of emergency medical care in a country prone to natural disasters and a democracy that is not immune from demonstrations.”
#AceHealthNews says THE HEALTHCARE PR BLITZ THAT WASN’T – Instead all we really got was that Healthcare.gov lady. Emily Swanson and Mark Blumenthal: “It looked like the ‘health insurance ad wars’ were about to heat up. But the long-anticipated ad campaign to sell Obamacare has not started yet, according to a series of polls conducted by The Huffington Post and YouGov. In mid-December, the Wall Street Journal reported that there would be a ‘coming blitz of insurance ads’ aimed at Americans now eligible to purchase health insurance through the new exchanges created as part of the health reform law. The new slew of ads would be a ‘step up from an already heated-up marketing push’ already underway. So far, however, few people seem to have been subjected to the PR blitz. The Huffington Post and YouGov conducted a series of three weekly polls on Dec. 18-19,Dec. 27-28 and Jan. 2-3. The data from those surveys, combined with ad tracking information provided by Kantar Media, showed little change in the number of health care ads Americans recalled seeing towards the end of 2013. Each survey found that most Americans remembered seeing ads for health insurance, and many remembered seeing those favoring or opposing the new health care law during the previous month. But the percentage of people who reported seeing each type of ad remained stable over the course of the three surveys.” [HuffPost]

#AceBreakingNews says Justice Sonia Sotomayor has blocked implementation of portions of President Barack Obama’s health care law that would have forced some religion-affiliated organizations to provide health insurance for employees that includes birth control. Sotomayor acted on a request from an order of Catholic nuns in Colorado, whose request for a stay had been denied by the lower courts.

Today l was working back in my local community with the elderly! The fact is l watched our so- called care services ignore a persons, dignity, free-will and right as a human being! The fact she pays towards this type of care, is so so wrong! I just wanted to shout this person is a vulnerable human being – not a commodity to pay these carers, to ignore the fundamentals of all care, and that is “love and compassion.” But today l made a vow to change the “Care In My Community” for the good not in favour of profit, but in the way God wanted through Jesus Christ, with unconditional love! On this day we call April Fools Day, the UK Goverment fooled the people of Britain, by giving them just what they wanted! Namely their own way in the fact they believed the rhetoric they were told, and our health services were changed forever. Not just that they gave total control to the. “Bank of England” (BOE), allowing them to create the next financial crisis. Finally having convinced us all our benefits system is costing too much, especially the people who have too much, over the working people. They destroyed the benefits system in one swipe of the pen! Not bad on a day we call ” April Fools Day” the real question. Who were the real fools on that day? l will leave you with this question, but harken to these words” Make your decision based on what you want, and not what you need. Then the day will come when you will say”Why am l suffering, l never did anything for this to happen to me,” the answer is your forgot other people in favour of your own selfish wants!
