#AceWorldNews says the HuffPost Hill today UPSIDE DOWNER – The budget Congress just passed restores funding that was cut away last year from nutrition assistance for poor senior citizens.
The Meals On Wheels Association of America praised Congress Friday for replacing $46 million in funding that was lost in the big budget cut known as sequestration, which had hamstrung some of the local agencies that provide group meals and home-delivered food for poor seniors across the country.
"Today we congratulate and commend the leaders of the House and Senate Appropriations Committees for producing a bipartisan bill that restores critical funding for vulnerable seniors," association president Ellie Hollander said in a press release…. Rep. Dave Loebsack (D-Iowa) had led a group of mostly Democrats last fall in calling on budget negotiators to restore the funding.
Not all programs hit by sequestration got their money back. [HuffPost]

#AceWorldNews says according to “HuffPost Hill” – CHRISTIE UNDER INVESTIGATION FOR MISUSE OF SANDY FUNDS – When it rains… Luke Johnson: “New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) is facing a federal investigation into whether the governor used Hurricane Sandy relief money to produce tourism ads starring himself and his family, Rep. Frank Pallone (D-N.J.) told CNN Sunday. The New Jersey lawmaker said the inspector general for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development conducted a preliminary investigation, and concluded that a full investigation is warranted. The investigation comes as the New Jersey governor is facing a separate federal probe into revelations that his top aides engineered the temporary shut-down of access lanes to the George Washington Bridge as political retribution. Pallone wrote a letter to the inspector general of the Department of Housing and Urban Development in August, asking why a firm with a more expensive pitch won the project to make a New Jersey tourism campaign with Hurricane Sandy relief funds. The winning firm’s bid was $4.7 million, while a comparable firm cost $2.5 million. The more expensive idea included the Christie’s, while the cheaper pitch did not.” [HuffPost]
#AceWorldNews says according the Huffpost Hill “YELLEN NOMINATION ADVANCES IN SENATE” – Great day for the Illuminati. AP: “The Senate has cleared the way for Janet Yellen to succeed Ben Bernanke as head of the Federal Reserve. Senators voted 59-34 Friday to end debate on the president’s nomination of Yellen. Approval is expected Jan. 6, the day the Senate returns from winter recess. The 67-year-old Yellen will become the first woman to lead the Fed in its century-old history. She will also be the first Democrat to lead the Fed since Paul Volcker left in 1987. Yellen is currently vice chair of the Fed. Bernanke told reporters that Yellen supported the Fed’s decision this week to gradually reduce the monthly bond purchases the Fed has been making to goose the economy. The move comes amid signs the economy is improving.” [AP]
#AceSecurityNews says according to HUFFPOST HILL for Friday, December 20th, 2013:the #NSA surveillance of foreign leaders could torpedo a U.S.-European trade deal, thus depriving John Boehner the lower Merlot prices he was so looking forward to . In the latest example of Democratic tyranny, the Senate confirmed by a strong majority a world renowned economist to be the next Fed chair. And one Republican congressional candidate compared the homophobic star of “Duck Dynasty” to Rosa Parks. However we’re more partial to the radical stylings of Ted Nugent, the Malcolm X of our time. #security
At a press conference Wednesday Democrats kicked off the annual holiday tradition of demanding Congress save unemployment benefits or else ruin Christmas for more than a million people. As has been the case for several years in a row, if Congress does nothing, federal unemployment insurance for the long-term jobless will expire around the holidays. As in previous years, Democrats are doing battle using holiday metaphors. “For this country, the richest in the world, to say to people at Christmastime, when you look in your Christmas sock you’re going to find a lump of coal from Congress — that’s wrong,” Rep. Jim McDermott (D-Wash.) said. “With just a few weeks left to act, [House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio)] is really setting himself up to be the Speaker Who Stole Christmas,” Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-Calif.) said. “Please don’t be the Speaker Who Stole Christmas.” [HuffPost]
The U.S. government has spied on 35 heads of state, which should make it way easier to choose what to serve them at state dinners. A gubernatorial candidate in Maryland is taking heat for not breaking up a party of underage drinkers — sure fodder for his opponent, Buzz Killington. And President Obama really wants Congress to take up immigration reform again, probably because he doesn’t want to spend the next three years deciding what kind of reclaimed wood will be used to construct the cafeteria in his presidential library. This is HUFFPOST HILL for Thursday, October 24th, 2013:
WHITE HOUSE THREATENS VETO OF HOUSE FARM BILL – The Obama administration has mega beef with the bill’s food stamp cuts. “The bill would reduce access to food assistance for struggling families and their children, does not contain sufficient commodity and crop insurance reforms, and does not provide funding for renewable energy, which is an important source of jobs and economic growth in rural communities across the country.” The president’s advisers would recommend a veto.
