#AceNewsServices – DUBLIN – Nov.24 – Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams said Monday that his Irish nationalist party has delivered a list of suspected Irish Republican Army rapists and child abusers to police as the government considers mounting a fact-finding inquiry into the scandal AP reported.

Over the past month, Adams has been accused by government leaders and former Sinn Fein supporters of shielding members of the outlawed Irish Republican Army from investigation for rape and child molestation.

His chief accuser, Mairia Cahill, says she was raped by a Belfast IRA commander in 1997, but Adams met her face to face to discourage her from going to police in favor of a secret IRA investigation, during which the group interrogated her alongside her alleged rapist. Adams has denied Cahill’s story, but she has won support from all other political parties in both parts of Ireland.

Adams said he had provided police a list of men who fled from Northern Ireland to the Republic of Ireland after being accused of sexual crimes.

He declined to specify the number of people on Sinn Fein’s list or whether all of them were IRA veterans.

Adams told Irish broadcasters RTE that the list “came to me anonymously. It was left in my letterbox at home in Belfast.”

Adams has always denied IRA membership, but every credible history of the modern Sinn Fein-IRA movement identifies Adams as having been a member since 1966 and a commander since the early 1970s.

His dominant faction, the Provisional IRA, killed nearly 1,800 people during a failed 1970-1997 campaign to force Northern Ireland out of the United Kingdom, then renounced violence and surrendered its weapons in 2005.

Sinn Fein since 2007 has operated a unity government in Northern Ireland alongside leaders of the British Protestant majority, and is hoping to wield the balance of power in the Republic of Ireland following elections expected by 2016.

` Irish Government has set-up an Investigation into Allegations of Widespread `Wire-Tapping ‘ by its Garda-Police ‘

#AceWorldNews – IRELAND – March 25 – The Irish government has set up an investigation into allegations of widespread phone wire-tapping by its police force.

The government said that they had received new information Tuesday that was so serious that a commission had to be set up.

“A system was in place in a large number of Garda (police) stations whereby incoming and outgoing telephone calls were taped,” it said.

The statement said that the practice had been in place for many years and was discontinued in November 2013.
