WASHINGTON: ' Humanitarian Aid Drop and Targeted Air-Strikes on ISIL in Iraq '

#AceBreakingNews – UNITED STATES – Washington (Pentagon) – August 31

Statement From Pentagon Press Secretary Rear Admiral John Kirby
Pentagon Press Secretary Rear Adm. Kirby provided the following statement:

At the request of the Government of Iraq, the United States military today airdropped humanitarian aid to the town of Amirli, home to thousands of Shia Turkomen who have been cut off from receiving food, water, and medical supplies for two months by ISIL. The United States Air Force delivered this aid alongside aircraft from Australia, France and the United Kingdom who also dropped much needed supplies.

In conjunction with this airdrop, U.S. aircraft conducted coordinated airstrikes against nearby ISIL terrorists in order to support this humanitarian assistance operation.

These military operations were conducted under authorization from the Commander-in-Chief to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance and to prevent an ISIL attack on the civilians of Amirli. The operations will be limited in their scope and duration as necessary to address this emerging humanitarian crisis and protect the civilians trapped in Amirli.

The U.S. military will continue to assess the effectiveness of these operations and work with the Department of State, the U.S. Agency for International Development, as well as international partners including the Government of Iraq, the United Nations, and non-government organizations to provide humanitarian assistance in Iraq as needed.

‘ Fighters of the Free Syrian Army Forced Militants of the ISIL from Town of Boukamal in Fierce Fighting ‘

#AceWorldNews – SYRIA – June 30 – Fighters of the Free Syrian army have forced militants of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant from the town of Boukamal on the border between Syria and Iraq, Interfax said, citing an Al Arabia report.

Modest Islamist militants are fighting to seize another Syrian town, Abu Kemal, which is currently under control of extremists.

The jihadist group controls much of north-eastern Syria and has recently captured cities and towns as well as border crossings in Iraq.

On Sunday, the group declared the establishment of an Islamic caliphate.

' ISIL Militants Have Executed Iraqi Soldiers En-Masse in City of Tikrit '

#AceWorldNews – IRAQ (Tikrit) – June 28 – Human Rights Watch (HRW) says militants from the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) have executed Iraqi soldiers en masse this month.

The Takfiri militants in mid-June uploaded photos of what they claimed to be the bodies of dozens of Iraqi security forces whom they had executed in the city of Tikrit.

The HRW said in a Thursday statement that the analysis of the photographs and satellite imagery strongly indicates that the militant group “conducted mass executions in Tikrit after seizing control of the city on June 11, 2014.”

The human rights organization said the death toll was between 160 and 190 people in at least two locations between June 11 and June 14. The ISIL had claimed to have killed 1,700 soldiers in Tikrit.

The HRW further said that the number of the victims could be much higher than the bodies it found, with its emergencies director Peter Bouckaert noting, “The photos and satellite images from Tikrit provide strong evidence of a horrible war crime that needs further investigation.”

The organization has located two of the trenches filled with bodies through cross-checking against ground features and landmarks in the photographs posted online by the ISIL terrorists. A third trench could not be located.

“Murder, when systematic or widespread and committed as part of a deliberate policy of an organized group, can be a crime against humanity,” the HRW stressed.

(Baghdad) – Analysis of photographs and satellite imagery strongly indicates that the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) conducted mass executions in Tikrit after seizing control of the city on June 11, 2014.

The analysis suggests that ISIS killed between 160 and 190 men in at least two locations between June 11 and 14.

The number of victims may well be much higher, but the difficulty of locating bodies and accessing the area has prevented a full investigation, Human Rights Watch said.

‘ ISIS Militants Storm University to take Hostages but Come Away Empty Handed ‘

#AceWorldNews – IRAQ (Ramadi) – Militants have stormed a university in the Iraqi city of Ramadi, briefly taking dozens of students and staff hostage before retreating under fire.

At least two people died in the attack, but officials said security forces were now back in control of the campus.

(The militants were said to be from the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant)

Saturday’s attack was the third major assault by insurgents in as many days following raids on Mosul in the north and the central city of Samarra.

Police said militants had infiltrated the campus in the early hours from the neighbouring al-Tasha district, blowing up a bridge to the university’s main gate.

Security personnel sealed off the campus and one Agence France-Presse reporter said special forces had led an assault.

One student, Ahmed al-Mehamdi, told the Associated Press news agency by telephone that he awoke to gunfire and saw armed men running across the campus.

The gunmen entered the dormitory and told everybody to stay in their rooms. Some students were taken to other buildings, he said, but others were trapped and “in panic”.

He said the gunmen had said they belonged to ISIS, a Sunni group which grew out of al-Qaeda’s Iraqi operation.

Later, he told AP he had managed to escape, and that “this crisis ended almost peacefully and no student was hurt as far as I know”.

` Al-Qaeda Linked Nursa Front Orders its Members to Use Chemical Weapons Against Syrian Army '

#AceNewsServices – TEHRAN (FNA)- The al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front ordered its members to use chemical weapons against the Syrian army and the people who stand against them.

In the last 24 hours, al-Qaeda offshoot in Syria, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL or ISIS), executed a teenager accused of robbery in the Eastern city of Deir Ezzur without trial.

Elsewhere, the Syrian army targeted insurgents’ concentration centres and hideouts in several areas in Idlib countryside, killing and wounding tens of rebels.

Army soldiers targeted the militants’ hideouts in Khan Shaikhoun district in Idlib, North Western Syria, killing 56 and rounding a large number of them.

The Syria Human Rights Watch quoted locals in Old Aleppo as saying that the sound of a strong blast was heard in the region on Saturday.

Elsewhere, the media affiliated to the Syrian opposition reported yesterday that retired Lebanese singer Fadel Shaker who had recently turned Salafi was killed in Deir Ezzur.

In the last 24 hours, units of the Syrian armed forces crushed more intrusion attempts by foreign-backed insurgents in several regions as the nation’s enthusiasm for the upcoming presidential election grows.

On Saturday operations, vigilant government troops killed 11 insurgents affiliated with the notorious al-Nusra Front terrorist group in Khan Sheikhoun area of Idlib countryside, the Syrian state news agency reported.

This is while an army unit targeted insurgent hideouts in Murek town in the outskirts of Hama, killing and injuring numerous militants and destroying their armed vehicles.

Citing a military source, the news agency added that the operation also led to the killing of the leader of the so-called Jabhat al-Islam terrorist group Khaled Sarhan al-Jasem as well as an al-Nusra Front commander identified as Ahmad Ibrahim al-Kadeh.

Elsewhere in Syria’s North Western city of Aleppo, twenty people were killed in the mortar attacks carried out by foreign-backed militants.

` Thirty Syrian Government Fighters Were Killed When Rebels Set-Off a Bomb Beneath a Check-Point ‘

#AceNewsServices – SYRIA – May 07 – (Reuters) – About 30 Syrian government fighters were killed when rebels set off a bomb in a tunnel beneath a checkpoint in a north-western province, activists said on Tuesday.

Videos and images posted by opposition supporters online showed a massive plume of smoke and earth shooting into the air near a small town as men shouted “Allahu akbar” (God is greatest).

Rebels fighting to overthrow President Bashar al-Assad regularly carry out guerrilla attacks against his forces, but the size of the blast, which occurred on Monday, was unusual.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based monitoring group, said the blast took place outside the town of Ma’arat al-Nu’man in the north-western Idlib province.

At least two officers were among those killed when insurgents from the Islamic Front and the Shields of the Revolution Council set off tons of explosives in a tunnel running from the road to the checkpoint, the group said.

More than 150,000 people have been killed in the three-year-old rebellion, which started as a peaceful protest movement and turned into a civil war after a government crackdown.

International powers have been deadlocked over how to resolve the conflict, further complicated by infighting between rebel groups that has killed thousands of fighters this year.

On Monday about 70 rebels were killed in clashes between a former Al-Qaeda affiliate, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) , and Al-Qaeda’s Syrian branch, the al-Nusra Front, and its allies in an eastern province bordering Iraq, the Observatory said.

` Al-Qaeda Group Takfiri’s Justice and Sentencing of People under Religious Court and Sharia Law ‘

AceNewsServices – SYRIA – May 01 – (PressTV) – An al-Qaeda-linked Takfiri group says it has publicly crucified two militants in north-eastern Syria in retaliation for an earlier grenade attack on its members.

The terrorist Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) said the two were among a total of seven prisoners put to death in connection with a grenade attack in the Euphrates Valley city of Raqqa earlier this month.

“Ten days ago, attackers on a motorbike threw a grenade at an ISIL fighter at the Naim roundabout. A Muslim civilian had his leg blown off and a child was killed,” the ISIL said.

The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) has published a photo of the two militants being crucified with one of them being pictured with a banner which reads, “This man fought against Muslims and threw a grenade in this place.”

The SOHR said these crucifixions were not the first by the ISIL, noting that the Takfiris had crucified a man on April 16.

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) stoned to death a young Syrian girl for membership in Facebook social network.

The ISIL militants took the Syrian girl, Fatoum Al-Jassem, to Al-Reqqa religious court and the judge ruled that membership in Facebook is tantamount to adultery and sentenced her to death by stoning, the Arabic-language Al-Rai Al-Youm reported.

The court decided that the girl’s use of the site deserved the same punishment that one would get if they committed adultery, so she was sentenced to death by stoning.

` Al-Qaeda and Affiliate Groups on the Increase World-Wide and US Singles Out Iran as Major State Sponsor ‘

#AceNewsServices – WASHINGTON – April 30 – A surge in the number of aggressive Al-Qaeda affiliates and like-minded groups the Middle East and North Africa poses a serious threat to U.S. interests and allies, the State Department said Wednesday in reporting a more than 40 percent increase in terrorist attacks worldwide between 2012 and 2013.

The department also singled out Iran as a major state sponsor of terrorism that continues to defy demands it prove its atomic ambitions are peaceful even as Washington pursues negotiations with Tehran over its nuclear program.

In its annual global terrorism report, the department said that losses in Al-Qaeda’s core leadership in Pakistan and Afghanistan “accelerated” the network’s decentralization in 2013. That has resulted in more autonomous and more aggressive affiliates, notably in Yemen, Syria, Iraq, north-west Africa, and Somalia, it said.

“The terrorist threat continued to evolve rapidly in 2013, with an increasing number of groups around the world — including both AQ affiliates and other terrorist organizations — posing a threat to the United States, our allies, and our interests,” according to the strategic assessment of the “Country Reports on Terrorism.”

The report identified a 43 percent increase in the number of terrorist attacks in 2013 from 2012, according to statistics provided by the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism.

It counted 9,707 terrorist attacks around the world in 2013, resulting in more than 17,800 deaths and more than 32,500 injuries. Most of those occurred in Afghanistan, India, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, Somalia, Syria, Thailand and Yemen. In 2012, the figures were 6,771 terrorist attacks, with more than 11,000 deaths and more than 21,600 injuries. Most of those where in the same 10 countries as in 2013.

The most lethal attacks in 2013 were conducted by the Taliban in Afghanistan, the Pakistani Taliban, Nigeria’s Boko Haram, Al-Qaeda in Iraq, Al-Qaeda in Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant and Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, according to the report.

` Jihadist Attack by Iraqi Helicopters against a Convoy has Killed Eight trying to Enter Iraqi Territory '

#AceNewsServices – SYRIA – April 27 – An attack against a jihadist convoy by Iraqi army helicopters left eight people dead on Sunday, an interior ministry spokesman said.

“The army struck eight tanker trucks in Wadi Suwab inside Syrian territory as they were trying to enter Iraqi territory to provide the (jihadist) Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) with fuel,” Brigadier General Saad Maan said.

The attack, which occurred in eastern Syria as the convoy tried to approach the border, was the first time Iraq’s military has said it carried out an offensive in Syria.

Maan said there was “no coordination with the Syrian regime” over the strike and that it was simply protecting its border.

“Our responsibility now is to protect our border and to protect the border from the other side, because there is no protection from the other side,” he said.

The vehicles were travelling to the western Iraqi border province in Anbar, where ISIL has been fighting Iraqi security forces and controls the city of Fallujah.

ISIL first emerged in Iraq after the U.S. invasion of the country in 2003 and later began fighting in Syria.

The brutal methods its fighters used in Syrian areas under their control turned other opposition groups against them, and they were pushed back by other rebel groups into their stronghold in north-eastern Syria, where they still hold territory.

Four French Journalists Have Been Freed and Found in Good Health by Soldiers on Turkish Border '

#AceWorldNews – SYRIA – April 19 – Four French journalists, who were captured by Syrian rebels from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in Syria in June 2013, are now free and in good health, says French President Francois Hollande, according to AFP.

The journalists were found by Turkish soldiers on the border with Syria. They were immediately taken to hospital.

DHA said soldiers on patrol found the four blindfolded and handcuffed in south-east Sanliurfa province late Friday. Turkish television showed pictures of the four at the police station and then a local hospital.

It was not clear whether a ransom had been paid for their release, nor which group in Syria’s chaotic 3-year-old conflict held the men. In his statement, Hollande thanked “all those” who contributed to the journalists’ release without elaborating.

Long-standing French practice is to name a specific country that contributed to hostage releases. France denies it pays ransom to free its hostages.

Hollande’s office said the four would return soon to France, and it did not provide any details about the conditions of their release. French Foreign Ministry spokesman Romain Nadal declined to comment.

The four went missing in June 2013 in two incidents. Press freedom advocate Reporters Without Borders has called Syria “the most dangerous country in the world” for journalists. The New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists said in December that at least 30 journalists are being held and 52 have been killed since Syria’s civil war began in early 2011.
