#AceNewsReport – May.02: The joint convoy covered a distance of more than 100 km in the first operation of its kind by the forces of the two countries in Syria, and included 10 towns that are not under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Russian and Turkish forces carry out record long patrol in northeast Syria: ‘The commander of the Russian forces convoy, Brigadier General Andrei Titov, said: Today a new joint Russian-Turkish patrol was carried out from the Sharq crossing. Titov added, “The patrol took place in an orderly manner, and the combination of troops and military equipment succeeded in carrying out the mission. The local residents in most of the towns welcomed the convoy.”

60 soldiers from the forces of both countries and more than ten of military vehicles participated in the patrol, accompanied by helicopters of the Russian Aerospace Forces.

Turkey has extended its control over an area that extends about 30 kilometers south from the Turkish-Syrian border in northeastern Syria, since the launch of its military operation “Peace Spring” on October 9, 2019, against the Kurdish People’s Protection Units, which Ankara considers a terrorist and an arm of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).

#AceNewsServices – LEBANON – October 29 – A senior official of the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah has described the ISIL terrorist group as a threat to the Middle East region and the entire world.

' Hezbollah Deputy Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem '

‘ Hezbollah Deputy Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem ‘

Hezbollah Deputy Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem said the ISIL Takfiri militants have launched a campaign of fear and terror to expand the terrorist group’s territory.

Saying that the ISIL terrorists have resorted to extreme forms of brutality, the Hezbollah official added, the Takfiri group, supported by some regional and Western countries, suffers from disunity in its ranks since its terrorists come from about eighty countries

The Hezbollah deputy chief reiterated that the ISIL, which commits atrocities in the name of religion, is the biggest threat to Islam and is disliked by both Shia and Sunni Muslims.

This comes as Lebanon has also been rocked by the spillover of the conflict in Syria caused by Takfiri militant groups.

Hezbollah Secretary General Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah said on October 14 that the Lebanese resistance movement is determined to defeat terrorists and Takfiri militants.

The ISIL terrorists currently control large swathes of territory across Syria and Iraq.

They have committed terrible atrocities in both countries, including mass executions and the beheading of local residents as well as foreign nationals.

“A military intelligence unit carried out a security operation at dawn in the Dinniyeh area” of northern Lebanon on an apartment in which jihadist Ahmad Miqati was living, a statement said.

Miqati and his son Omar were arrested in the raid. They, along with a Miqati nephew identified as Bilal “were involved in the slaying of martyred Sergeant Ali Sayyid” in the border town of Arsal, the army said.

Tensions have soared in Lebanon since August when the army fought deadly clashes with jihadists of the IS and Al-Qaeda affiliate Al-Nusra Front in Arsal.

The jihadists are demanding that Lebanon free Islamist prisoners.

#AceNewsServices – LEBANON – October 20 – A Lebanese-American reporter working for Iranian channel, Press TV, Serena Shim has been killed in a car crash in Turkey, following her reports of accusations from Turkey’s intelligence agency that she had been “spying.”

“Our correspondent Serena Shim has been killed near the Turkey-Syria border. Serena was killed in a reported car accident when she was returning from a report scene…their car collided with a heavy vehicle, a Press TV broadcast stated on Monday. Shim had also been the mother of two young children.

The driver of the vehicle was subsequently arrested, according to Turkish news agency Hurriyet, citing the Turkish Doğan News Agency. Press TV disputed this, alleging that both driver and vehicle have disappeared.

Press TV has additionally expressed suspicion, implying that it may not have been an accident. “Just a couple of days ago she had been threatened by Turkish intelligence,” the broadcast said.

#AceNewsServices – LEBANON (Beirut)- October 18 – The Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah has warned Saudi authorities against the execution of prominent Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr Baqir al-Nimr.

Free Sheikh Nimr Baqir Al-Nimr

Free Sheikh Nimr Baqir Al-Nimr

In a statement released on Thursday, the Lebanese movement described the sentence handed down to the cleric as unjust and politically motivated.

“This unjust sentence is political par excellence, and reflects the repressive policy adopted by Saudi authorities against a wide segment of citizens. They cannot tolerate free expression and the peaceful struggle of this oppressed segment to achieve their legitimate demands,” the statement read.

Hezbollah also called on Saudi officials to drop the case against Nimr and listen to the legitimate demands of the citizens seeking to obtain the minimum of their rights as recognized by divine religions and the international law.

The Lebanese resistance movement further urged international rights groups to press Riyadh not to kill the top Shiite scholar.

Sheikh Nimr Baqir al-Nimr.

On Wednesday, Nimr was sentenced to death at the Specialized Criminal Court in the Saudi capital Riyadh. In reaction to the sentence, people took to streets in the city of Qatif in Eastern Province to condemn the move.

Amnesty International has called the death sentence “appalling,” saying the verdict should be quashed, Press TV reported.

Meanwhile, a group of protesters have staged a rally in Bahrain to express solidarity with the dissident Shiite Muslim cleric in Saudi Arabia. The protesters denounced the Saudi government for issuing Nimr’s death sentence.

Nimr has been given the death sentence on charges of disturbing the kingdom’s security and making anti-government speeches.

He is the Imam of al-Awamiyya mosque in Qatif and has spent most of his two-year detention in solitary confinement at the al-Ha’ir prison in Riyadh, according to Amnesty International.

‘ Leader of Abdullah Azzam Brigades Al-Qaeda Group Calls on Sunnis to Attack Hezbollah ‘

#AceNewsServices – October 15 – The leader of the Abdullah Azzam Brigades (AAB), an al Qaeda-linked group, has called on Sunnis in Lebanon to attack Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed terrorist organization.

Abdullah Azzam Brigades leader calls on Lebanese people to attack Hezbollah

Abdullah Azzam Brigades leader calls on Lebanese people to attack Hezbollah

Sirajeddine Zurayqat, who has been reportedly named the new emir of the AAB, called for the anti-Hezbollah attacks in a series of posts on his official Twitter feed on Oct. 13. The tweets have also been collected into a single statement from the AAB leader.

Zurayqat addresses “our youth in Tripoli,” saying they should strike Hezbollah fighters and positions, not the Lebanese Army. Hezbollah is the “puppet master” behind the Army and Lebanon’s security services, Zurayqat writes, and it is Hezbollah that has turned the government against the nation’s Sunnis.

“Therefore, strike the puppet master and do not get preoccupied with the tools. If the head is broken, the hands become paralyzed,” Zurayqat argues in a tweet translated by The Daily Star. “You have [Hezbollah’s] centers, checkpoints, supply lines, leaders and members across Lebanon.

Kill them and avenge the children of Lebanon and Syria.”

The AAB leader also argues that Hezbollah has been Israel’s “loyal guard” since 1996. He attempts to recast the 2006 war between Hezbollah and Israel as “nothing more than breaking the rules of engagement.”

By failing to continue with the war, Zurayqat says, Hezbollah has provided international legitimacy for Israel’s existence.

Zurayqat’s words are intended to undermine public perceptions of Hezbollah as an effective anti-Israeli fighting force. Ironically, Iran and other allied groups have done more to fight Israel than the AAB or any other al Qaeda-backed group.

But the AAB and other al Qaeda-allied groups have claimed responsibility for smaller attacks on Israel, including during the conflict this past summer.

Zurayqat’s call to fight Hezbollah is consistent with the anti-Iranian propaganda campaign being waged by the Al Nusrah Front, al Qaeda’s official branch in Syria.

Al Nusrah operates in Lebanon and has called upon Sunnis in the country to rise up against the Lebanese government, Hezbollah and their Iranian-backers.

Both Al Nusrah and the Islamic State, a former branch of al Qaeda, have fought against Lebanese forces and Hezbollah. There are evenpersistent reports indicating that Al Nusrah and the Islamic State have conducted joint operations in Lebanon despite their bitter rivalry in Syria.

In August, Al Nusrah and the Islamic State took a number of Lebanese servicemen hostage, killing several of them after the negotiations to free them stalled. The Al Nusrah Front has blamed Hezbollah and Iran for the failure to reach a deal that would free the captives.

And Al Nusrah has used its hostages in videos that are intended to sway public opinion in Lebanon against the government and Hezbollah.

In September, Zurayqat addressed the Lebanese hostages in an audio recording that was released online. He blamed the men for joining the Lebanese Army, saying “if you fight the Sunnis there is nothing between you and us except the sword.”

According to Al Akhbar, Zurayqat threatened, “The mujahideen took Iraq in days, and in days they can be in the center of Beirut too.”

The AAB has conducted attacks against Iranian interests in Lebanon. In November 2013, the group claimed credit for twin suicide attacks outside of the Iranian embassy in Beirut.

Nearly two dozen people, including an Iranian cultural attache, were killed and more than 150 others were wounded in the blasts.

BEIRUT: ‘ Hezbollah Fighters Claim Responsibility for Detonated Bomb Against Israeli Patrol in Golan Heights ‘

#AceNewsServices – BEIRUT – October 07 –  Hezbollah fighters have claimed responsibility for a blast in southern Lebanon that left three Israeli soldiers wounded, the Al-Manar Lebanese TV channel reported Tuesday.

' Flag of Hezbollah Movement '

‘ Flag of Hezbollah Movement ‘

Members of Hezbollah “detonated a bomb against an Israeli manned patrol” in Shebaa Farms, a strip of disputed land located at the intersection of the Lebanese-Syrian border and Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, Al-Manar reported citing a Hezbollah statement.

Earlier on Tuesday, local sources told RIA Novosti that Israel shelled Lebanon’s Kfar Shuba Heights in response to the attack.

On Sunday, Lebanon and Israel forces opened fired at each other’s positions in the same area of the Lebanese-Israeli border, leaving one Lebanese soldier wounded.

Hezbollah is a paramilitary and political organization originating in Lebanon’s Shiite population, fighting for an Islamic state in Lebanon.

It is recognized as a terrorist group by many Western countries, including Israel, the United States and the United Kingdom, but not by Russia.

Hezbollah is one of Israel’s most powerful opponents, but members of the group, which controls most of Lebanon’s southern regions, have been maintaining a ceasefire since the end of the Lebanon War.

LEBANON: ‘ Families of Lebanese Captive Families Block the Road ‘

#AceNewsServices – LEBANON – Families of the Lebanese soldiers and security officers kidnapped by Takfiri terrorists in Syria have blocked roads in Lebanon, urging the government to do more to release their loved ones.

On Monday, protesters erected high sand mounds across Dahr al-Baidar highway in the capital, Beirut, blocking all access, including a narrow passageway that had been kept open for ambulances and emergency cases.

Security sources said the road blockage was meant to express the families’ growing frustration with regard to what happened to their loved ones.

In northern Lebanon, relatives of captive soldier, Ibrahim Mogheit, also cut off a highway in Qalamoun region, severing access to the city of Tripoli.

Traffic had to be redirected to a narrow road, causing long trails of stranded cars.

The group also opposed US military intervention in Syria, including air-strikes on ISIS targets, the Daily Star quoted Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah as saying.

He stressed that the US had created or helped create terrorist groups which the coalition was now seeking to fight in Iraq and Syria.

Lebanon was capable of confronting terrorism alone, he said, adding that the government should negotiate with Islamist militants holding at least 21 Lebanese soldiers and policemen hostage “from a position of strength.”

North Korea has detained a 56-year old man from Ohio, accusing him of an unspecified crime after he traveled to the communist-led country as a tourist, the nation’s state news agency and the man’s family said Friday. The North is now holding three Americans. The state Korean Central News Agency identified the latest detainee as Jeffrey Edward Fowle. It said he arrived in North Korea on April 29 and authorities were investigating him for committing acts inconsistent with the purpose of a tourist visit. It did not give details. U.S. officials confirmed the detention but didn’t identify the person for privacy reasons, nor comment on reports that he was held after leaving a Bible in his hotel room. A spokesman for the family said, Fowle, who is married with three children, was not on a mission for his church.

One of the other two U.S. detainees is Korean-American missionary Kenneth Bae, who has been held since November 2012, and is serving 15 years of hard labor for what the North says were hostile acts against the state. State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf did not say whether Sweden, which handles consular matters for Americans in North Korea, had been granted access to the latest detainee. “This is the third U.S. citizen that has been detained in North Korea,” Harf told reporters in Washington. She added there’s “no greater priority for us than the welfare and safety of U.S. citizens abroad.”

She said the department has a warning against travel to North Korea and that being part of a tour group will not prevent a possible arrest. North Korea has been pushing to promote tourism as part of efforts to earn badly needed foreign currency, but the country is also extremely sensitive about how visitors act while in the country. The other American being held was detained for alleged improper behavior while entering the country. The tourist agency he traveled with identified him as Matthew Miller, 24. North Korea said he entered the country on April 10 with a tourist visa, but tore it up and shouted that he wanted to seek asylum. The brief report said he chose the North “as a shelter.”

Friday’s announcement came as tension on the Korean Peninsula remains high with North Korea keeping up rhetoric against the U.S. and South Korea following its series of missile and rocket launches earlier this year. The North’s state media have also unleashed racist and sexist slurs against U.S. and South Korean leaders. The peninsula is still in a technical state of war because the 1950-53 Korean War ended with an armistice, not a peace treaty. About 28,500 U.S. troops are stationed in South Korea to deter potential aggression from North Korea. Timothy Tepe, an attorney who is acting as a spokesman for Fowle’s family, confirmed that North Korea detained Fowle. He said the family would issue statement on Monday and not comment until then, “given the sensitive nature of Jeff’s situation.”

“This is a very fluid situation that has just come to light and they need time to process it,” Tepe said. Tepe said Fowle, who has a home in Miamisburg in southwest Ohio, was not on a mission for his church, Urbancrest Baptist Church in Lebanon, Ohio, and that he was just visiting North Korea as a tourist. Mark Edward Howard, who attends Fowle’s church, described him as “a very good Christian father, a very loving father to his children.” He said that Fowle’s wife, Tatyana Fowle, 40, is a Russian immigrant with limited English, and that Jeff Fowle always stayed close to her side in case she needed interpretation. “They are pretty much inseparable,” he said. “You never see him not by her side. They’re a very nice family.”

In a statement, U.S. Rep. Michael Turner, a Dayton, Ohio Republican, said he was “deeply troubled by the detainment of American and Miamisburg resident Jeffery Edward Fowle, by the authoritarian government of North Korea.” “We have been in contact with the State Department and will continue to carefully monitor Fowle’s detainment as we await the release of additional information,” he said. The U.S. and North Korea do not have diplomatic relations so Sweden, which has an embassy in Pyongyang, oversees consular issues for the United States there. Unless a detainee signs a privacy waiver, the State Department cannot give details about the case. In March, North Korea deported an Australian missionary detained for spreading Christianity in the country after he apologized for anti-state religious acts and requested forgiveness. In December, North Korea released 85-year-old American veteran of the Korean War, Merrill Newman, who was held for several weeks after traveling to North Korea as a tourist. Newman was freed after he gave a videotaped confession in which he apologized for killing North Koreans during the war. Newman later said the confession was given involuntarily and under duress.

` Women Paying Price of War in Syria All In the Name of Man’s Image of God ‘

#AceWorldNews – SYRIA – May 15 – (MNN) – Syrian women are paying the price of war. Baptist Global Response says some refugee widows are becoming prostitutes in order to feed their families.

They’re also helping physically with food distributions.

*Jala, a refugee, sits in a crowded room in Lebanon with other Syrian refugee women who gathered for Bible study. She makes a bold announcement.

“People really need to pray for the women in Syria because they are being raped,” she says.

Jala describes some of the horrific things she has seen and heard: women being raped in their homes or while fleeing the country, and some being taken as brides of the militia.

“They steal, they kill, and they rape in the name of God,” Jala says.

In the two years since the war began, the death toll in Syria has climbed above 90,000 people.

The plight of women, though, is seldom discussed.

` Lebanon’s Parliament Fail to Name a Replacement President on Third Occasion ‘

#AceWorldNews – LEBANON – May 06 – Lebanon’s parliament speaker postponed Wednesday for a second time a session to elect a new president due to a lack of quorum.

Only 73 lawmakers, the majority from the Western-backed March 14 coalition, attended the session, falling short of the required two-thirds to hold a vote in the 128 member Parliament.

This is the third time that politicians have failed to name a replacement for President Michel Sleiman whose term ends on May 25.

Boycotting politicians from the Hezbollah-led March 8 alliance have scuppered two attempts to hold the vote.

Speaker Nabih Berri adjourned Wednesday’s session to May 15.

The parliament has a constitutional deadline of two months – from March 25 to May 25 – to elect the next head of state.

` Court Set-up to Investigate Assassination of Rafiki Hariri Summons Al-Akhbar Editor over Obstruction of Justice ‘

#AceNewsServices – BEIRUT – April 24 – An international court set up to investigate the 2005 assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minsiter Rafik Hariri has summoned Al-Akhbar’s editor-in-chief and a journalist for Al-Jadeed Television over two counts of Obstruction of Justice, the body announced Thursday.

The Hague-based Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) said there are “sufficient grounds to proceed against” Ibrahim al-Amin of Al-Akhbar and Al-Jadeed’s Karma al-Khayat “for the publication of names asserted to be those of alleged confidential witnesses in the Tribunal’s proceedings,” a statement said.

The charges against Amin relate to the decision of Al-Akhbar in January 2013 to publish the names of 32 witnesses belonging to the STL’s prosecution.

The summon against Khayat, Deputy Head of News and Political Programs, involves material broadcast on Al-Jadeed in August 2012.

“There is prima facie evidence that the publication of information relating to the identity of alleged confidential witnesses entailed knowing and wilful interference with the administration of justice” in breach of court rules, the statement, authored by contempt judge David Baragwanath, said.

The summons were issues on January 31, but only publicized Thursday.

The court set May 13, 2014 as the date for Amin and Khayat to appear before it, either in person of via video link.

`Militants of Syrian Armed Opposition have Attacked with ` Mortars Border ‘ areas in Eastern Lebanon ‘

AceWorldNews – BEIRUT – Militants of Syrian armed opposition have attacked with mortars the border areas in eastern Lebanon on Monday.

Lebanon-based TV channel Al Mayadeen reported that four rocket projectiles launched from the Syrian territory fell in Shiite settlements of Nabi Osman and al-Labweh.

There were no reports about victims or the extent of destruction.

Sunday night, two people were killed and 6 were wounded as a result of a terrorist attack in Nabi Osman. Al- Manar Television channel reported that a suicide bomber set off a car bomb. Ahrar al-Sunnah militant group claimed responsibility for the attack.

Nabi Osman and al-Labweh are situated in a mostly Shiite region in Beqaa valley.

Local experts link the terrorist act with developments in Yabroud, where the Syrian army eliminated units of armed opposition on past weekend.

The militants stepped back to the area of Lebanese border town of Ersal, where their rear bases are located.
