“A Teacher that Teaches the Pupil must learn how a “Pupil must Teach the Teacher”

Today Nick Clegg has set out to provide a new initiative to provide what he has called “Outstanding Leaders” a league of Champions as he put it! This seems a little like the football league and we reward these so-called “Top Talent” with more money, and only the few get this chance to be a star!

So do we want more “Top Teachers” rather than “Good Teaching” as the statistics say we end up pushing up standards. That is good, but by what percentage, as classes get larger and larger every year! So maybe we could achieve seventy percent, but what of those left behind on the ladder of success! There are always those that do not make the grade ,those with problems at home, those with-out family support, these people stay on the bottom rungs!

They get forgotten sitting at the back of the class, until many years later they will not be earning the big bucks in Medicine, Politics or as a Teacher, they will be doing the menial jobs. There is of course nothing wrong with menial jobs, l have done these myself in the past, and still do even daily!

But l was one of those children at the back of the class, trying to attract teacher’s attention, knowing the answer when the question was asked, but too scared to speak, in case l was wrong, these were my school days! The fact was l needed both support from the teachers and my family, l received neither!

It took years of trying to make my way in life, and l took a long time to feel confidant enough to speak up and be counted, l was either angry at the system or angry at myself for taking it out on others!

Now l am able to write and tell other people my “Good News” there is no need to keep on throwing out failing teachers who fail their pupils, because as l now know so well it is the “Teacher that Teaches the Pupil and to be the absolute best teacher the “Pupil must Teach the Teacher” change for change sake is no change at all!

So l say to Nick Clegg let’s get better teaching methods, as throwing enough knowledge at some one does not mean they will learn, they have to be educated, on the how to learn. This method of teaching was around when l was a boy, and it would mean rote learning, of the Alphabet by association. The fact that each year, due to government intervention, changes are made to the curriculum, so many times it would make your head spin!

Then added to that the pupils have to start learning a new way of learning, this confuses the pupil. So Mr Clegg let us provide quality teachers based on tried and tested teaching methods of learning! We do not just need “Top Talent” or “Outstanding Leaders” this just leads children to follow the path of success for the sake of money, not for the sake of being the best Doctor or Politician at providing people with the best possible services.

We need children to grow up to be better citizens first and what and who they become second, thus making for a better world.

Changing Rules On 1871 Pedlars Act Will Have Consequences

The Local Government Association has warned that plans to scrap laws governing peddlers risk turning Britain’s high streets into a “free-for-all for rogue traders”. Jo Swinson, the Liberal Democrat consumer affairs minister, wants to repeal the 1871 Pedlars Act, which restricts the freedom of travelling vendors to knock on people’s doors, approach people in the road and set up stalls on high streets. Under her plans, councils will be banned from using street trading laws, to place restrictions on the estimated 4,000 pedlars in the country.

Sometimes a story just has to be written and this is one such story that will, if the person trying to change the “1871 Pedlars Act” will do just that! With this all being in the pursuit of promoting business, or as l prefer to call it, consume-it-all-ism! This small news desk item was courtesy of a number of daily newspapers, and has consequences for everyone!

Firstly to understand my dismay l thought it would be useful to be aware of the context of the word “Pedlar” and is defined as:

The term “pedlar” means any hawker, pedlar, petty chapman, tinker, caster of metals, mender of chairs, or other person who, without any horse or other beast bearing or drawing burden, travels and trades on foot and goes from town to town or to other men’s houses, carrying to sell or exposing for sale any goods, wares, or merchandise, or procuring orders for goods, wares, or merchandise immediately to be delivered, or selling or offering for sale his skill in handicraft;

I realise some of these people are not all dishonest tradesmen like any businessman/woman ,but releasing up to 4,000 pedlars onto the streets of our towns, will just lead to so many social problems.

Having for my sin’s many years ago worked door to door, l know how so many people will react in many ways, including the Elderly who are already in many cases terrified to say the least!

This is an ill-conceived proposal and Ms Swinson, should look deeper at the social and moral considerations, before this change gets the light of day. As a lot of people will not be in support of such a change, as ideas like this of obtaining growth  in the economy, are ill-conceived to say the least!

New Council Bands Not For The Rich Says Osborne

The Government has dismissed speculation that new council tax bands will be introduced to recoup more revenue from the wealthiest homeowners. It follows reports the government was considering additional bands for homes valued over £1,1.2,and £2 million. Most papers report that George Osborne is now expected to raise stamp duty in next month’s Autumn Statement to compensate.

So finally George Osborne gets off the fence the opposition party put him on, and hoists his colours to the main party-line!  Well that took a while but was it worth waiting for? Not really! Same old, same old rhetoric, of protect the wealthy! As one day they may vote us back in as the only party, no coalition this time! And as a way to sweeten the pot, no stamp duty for the rich this time around!

So what do we get instead, oh yes a hidden agenda of raising stamp duty, but for who and at what cost to people’s housing aspirations, not really clear on this either, and l quote! An increase in either stamp duty or capital gains tax are other possibilities if the council tax option is ruled out. Seems pretty certain then we all know what he is going to do in next months budget!

Either way someone will pay, and l would not take bets if, if l were a betting man, it will not be the beleaguered tax payer, ever willing to shoulders this governments, ineptitude!
