#AceWorldNews – HAGUE – March 24 – Russia is not clinging to the G8 format, as all major world problems can be discussed at other international venues such as Group of Twenty (G20), Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said.
“The G8 is an informal club, no one gives out membership cards and no one can expel members,” Lavrov told a media conference at the Hague. “If our Western partners believe that this format has exhausted itself, let it be. We are not clinging to it.”
He went on to say that many believe that the G8 has already fulfilled its mission as many issues are now discussed at the G20 forum.
“Generally speaking, there are also other formats for considering many questions, including the UN Security Council, the Middle East Quartet and the P5+1 on the Iranian nuclear problem,” Lavrov told journalists.
Also Italian Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini has emphasized the importance of preserving the current G8 format. She was speaking earlier on Monday while accompanying Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi at the Nuclear Security Summit (NSS).

#AceWorldNews says Italian Premier Matteo Renzi won a confidence vote in the Senate early on Tuesday, giving a boost to his new government.
The Italian Senate voted 169 to 139 to confirm Renzi’s broad coalition, from his centre-left Democrats to center-right factions that supported ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi.
The Chamber of Deputies – where Democrats have a sizeable majority – is expected to vote later Tuesday. Renzi had to overcome animosity among some members of his party in the Senate who openly criticized his use of aggressive tactics in ascending to the premiership over fellow Democrat Enrico Letta. Rezni, 39, was sworn into office on Saturday, becoming the youngest-ever Italian premier.
#AceWorldNews says Italian President Giorgio Napolitano asked the leader of the Democratic Party, Matteo Renzi, to try to form a government Monday.
The centre-left leader said he would begin talks in the next 24 hours, Reuters reported. Renzi needs to seal a formal coalition deal with the small centre-right NCD party to secure a majority and to name his cabinet before seeking a formal vote of confidence in parliament.
The 39-year-old mayor of Florence engineered the removal of his party rival Enrico Letta as prime minister at a meeting of the Democratic Party leadership last week over growing impatience with the slow pace of economic reforms.
