(LONDON) Old Bailey Court Report: Two Metropolitan Police officers have admitted taking photographs at a murder crime scene and sharing them on WhatsApp #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – Nov.04: Today at the Old Bailey both officers from the North East Area Command admitted one count of misconduct in public office between 7 June and 23 June last year.

#AceDailyNews says that CPS Court Report: PC Deniz Jaffer, 47, and PC Jamie Lewis, 33, were tasked with manning the cordon after the murders of sisters Bibaa Henry and Nicole Smallman in Fryent Country Park in Wembley in June 2020: The officers will be sentenced at the same court at a later date.

An investigation found that while on duty in the park both PC Jaffer and PC Lewis left their posts and approached the murdered women – risking contamination of the crime scene – to take pictures of them on their phones.

The CPS London Complex Casework unit authorised the charges against PC Lewis and PC Jaffer after reviewing a file of evidence from the Independent Office for Police Conduct in April 2021:

PC Lewis edited one of the pictures by superimposing his own face onto the photograph with the victims in the background. He sent the resulting image to PC Jaffer, who then forwarded it unsolicited to a female officer also present at the scene.

PC Jaffer showed one of the photos of the victims to a male officer as they left the park. PC Lewis also shared photographs he had taken at the crime scene which did not show the victims with a WhatsApp group of 40-plus police officers called the ‘A Team’.

PC Jaffer meanwhile sent photographs of the victims to three friends via WhatsApp.

Paul Goddard, from the CPS, said: “PC Jamie Lewis and PC Deniz Jaffer’s senseless conduct fell way below that to be expected from police officers: These officers were tasked with protecting a tragic crime scene, but instead they violated it for their own purposes, with no regard to the dignity of the victims, or the harm they might do to a murder investigation: Their thoughtless and insensitive actions have no doubt caused immeasurable further distress and pain to the heartbroken family and friends of Nicole Smallman and Bibaa Henry who were already left reeling from the loss of their loved ones. Our thoughts are very much with them at this time.”

Additional Case Notes:

  • Paul Goddard is a Senior Crown Prosecutor within the Complex Casework unit on CPS London South.
  • PC Deniz Jaffer [DOB: 28/12/1973] is from Hornchurch in the London borough of Havering.
  • PC Jamie Lewis [DOB: 09/08/1988] is from Colchester in Essex.

(LONDON) Court Report: A London man who travelled to Cambodia and engaged in sexual activity with a child has been jailed #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – Nov.02: On Monday, 6 September, prior to a trial, he pleaded guilty to making indecent images of a child and inciting a child to commit a sexual act:

#AceNewsDesk Court Report: Gary Cosgrove, 59 (05.03.62) of Bethnal Green was sentenced on Friday, 29 October at the Old Bailey to two years and five months’ imprisonment. He was also given a sexual harm prevention order for a period of ten years.

[JAILED: Gary Cosgrove]

On Friday, 13 April 2018 the Met received intelligence reports from the National Crime Agency of a male sexually abusing, grooming and exploiting children in Cambodia.

CASE NOTES: Intelligence suggested the male had been travelling around the locality of an area called Sihanoukville, meeting with children and sexually assaulting them: Detectives from the Met’s Central Specialist Crime began investigating and detained Gary Cosgrove on Thursday, 31 May 2018 at Heathrow Airport. He was arrested on suspicion of sexual activity with a male child under 13-years-old: During his interview he confirmed he was present in Cambodia, engaging with children, giving them gifts such as food, money, clothing and toys. He denied committing any offences of a sexual nature against these children: Numerous items were seized from him, including data storage devices. Further electronic items were seized following a search at his address: He was subsequently bailed with conditions: A number of items seized were sent for analysis, one of which was found to contain video of a male sexually communicating with a child and also a large number of images of naked children: A particular video, which was around 50 seconds in length, revealed an explicit conversation with a child where a male could be heard trying to persuade her to remove her underwear – she was around four-years-old. She appeared to be holding paper currency: It was discovered that the video was made on an iPhone 6 Plus on 5 January 2018. The location of the footage showed to be in Cambodia, which was where Cosgrove was at the time: Cosgrove was further interviewed about this matter on Tuesday, 26 June 2018 but denied he was the person recording or talking on the video. He was again bailed: Voice analysis was later completed and a report from an expert in forensic speech and acoustics found the recording provided moderately strong support that Cosgrove was the speaker. Cosgrove continued to deny all questions put to him. In July 2019 he was charged with possession of indecent images of a child, engaging in sexual communication with a child and inciting a child to commit a sexual act.

Detective Constable Mike, Penn, from Central Specialist Crime said: “This sentence highlights the Met’s and partner agencies determination to track down these offenders and tirelessly investigate offences to secure their convictions and safeguard vulnerable children no matter where they are in the world: If you have been a victim of sexual assault or rape or you have information about an offender, contact police on 101 or 999 in an emergency – there are specially trained officers who will listen and investigate where needed.”

Peter Vernon from the NCA’s International Liaison Network, said:“Gary Cosgrove targeted vulnerable children in Cambodia then groomed them, building their trust through the provision of gifts, before sexually abusing them: Transnational child sex offenders like Cosgrove think that by conducting their abuse in a remote part of the world, they won’t get caught. However, as this case shows, borders are not a barrier: The NCA works closely with international partners to target British nationals who commit these offences overseas. We are then able to share information with our partners back in the UK to ensure they face justice for their crimes.”

#AceDailyNews reports on MET UPDATE: That a man has been charged with murder of Sir David Amess MP: Ali Harbi Ali, 25 (01.02.96) of north London, was charged on Thursday, 21 October with murder (contrary to common law), and preparation of terrorist acts (contrary to Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006) :

Man charged with murder of Sir David Amess MP
Courtesy of the MET

Matt Jukes, Assistant Commissioner for Specialist Operations, said: “I want to send my deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Sir David Amess, who died so tragically last Friday: Sir David’s dedication to his family, his constituents and his community, and his positive impact on the lives of so many has shone through: Today’s charge is a significant milestone in the case, but the work from my colleagues in the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command will continue apace: There has been considerable speculation in the media about the background, history and motivation of the man now charged: I understand the huge level of public interest in this case, but now a charge has been brought, it is vitally important that everyone exercises restraint when commenting on it publicly, to ensure future court proceedings are not prejudiced in any way.”

The Attorney General’s Office issued the following advice on 18 October, relating to media reporting and online commentary about this case: Following the arrest of a man in Essex on Friday, 15 October, the Attorney General reminds editors, publishers and social media users that for the purpose of the Contempt of Court Act 1981 (the Act), proceedings are active and the strict liability rule under the Act therefore applies: In particular, the Attorney General wishes to draw attention to the risks in publishing material, including on-line, that asserts or assumes, expressly or implicitly, the guilt of any of those arrested, or that otherwise interferes with the administration of justice in this case, for example allegations of wrongdoing of any individual arrested in relation to this matter.

The Attorney General’s Office will be monitoring the coverage of these proceedings: Editors, publishers and social media users are reminded of their responsibilities under the Act and should take legal advice to ensure they are in a position to fully comply with the obligations imposed by the Act.

(LONDON) MET REPORT: At least 119 people have been arrested following a three day, cross-police force operation to tackle violence and associated criminality #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – Oct.21: Officers used Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology along main roads in and around London, as well as in violence hotspots, to target vehicles which activated the technology, showing a link to violence and drug crimes.

#AceDailyNews reports that more than 100 arrests in violence and drugs crack-down as officers from the MET teamed together with six other police forces: Surrey; Kent; Essex; Hertfordshire; Thames Valley; and British Transport Police, to disrupt and prevent violence, drugs and gang activity.

19 October 2021 17:40

More than 100 arrests in violence and drugs crack-down

Youth workers from the charity Bounce Back, who interact with young offenders offering support and guidance to help them find ways out of criminal lifestyles, also joined the operation, working in dedicated custody suites providing immediate intervention.

The operation, which ran from 12-14 October, resulted in (MPS only):

  • 119 arrests for knives and drugs offences
  • 18 knives/weapons recovered
  •  A number of drug seizures, including a cannabis factory
  • £5,795 cash seized, with an additional individual seizure of €451,000
  • 45 vehicles seized.

Inspector Pete Luciano, of the Violent Crime Taskforce, said: “Our number one priority is tackling violence and the drivers which fuel it – we know this includes drugs supply. The use of ANPR technology is a valuable tactic we use to target criminals bringing drugs and weapons onto the streets of London. Operations like this form part of the wider work being carried out across the Met to tackle violence in all its forms: officers are running bespoke operations alongside day-to-day activity, to make communities safer: We are working alongside other police forces and sharing intelligence across borders to intercept criminals using the road networks. My message is clear: if you are involved in the supply of drugs or exploitation of others, we will identify you; stop you and arrest you: Crucially during this operation we were joined by a youth worker who supported individuals on the cusp of violence. This meant young people received instant support, independent of police. Operations like this, which include a collaborative approach, can have a real impact on finding longer-term solutions for those engaging in criminality.” ……….It is absolutely critical that we, along with our partners, drive down violent crime in London – this is the top priority for all in the Met………….Our plans are strong and officers are using a range of tactics from prevention and diversion activities to enforcement. Our continued efforts are starting to have a collective impact, with data showing positive reductions across serious violent crime categories.

This year to September 2021 (CYTD), compared to the same period prior to the pandemic in 2019, has seen:

  • Homicides decrease by 10%
  • Knife crime decrease by 32%
  • Knife crime with injury decrease by 20%
  • Knife Injury (victims under 25 and non-domestic abuse) decrease by 27%
  • Personal robbery decrease by 45%
  • Personal robbery knife injury decrease by 36%
  • Gun crime decrease by 36%
  • Lethal barrel discharges decrease by 28%

Despite these reductions, we are not complacent and know there is more to do. Our determination to tackle these crimes remains strong and we will continue to work with our partners, and use every power and tactic available, to serve and protect our communities.

Communities also have a vital role to play in tackling violent crime and we urge anyone who may have information to tell us, so that we can tackle violence together. We need information about crime or those who carry a weapon, or those that exploit people for gain or revenge, while putting young people’s lives at risk. Community intelligence can be used to great effect to not only detect, but also prevent crime, keep London safe and save young lives.

If you don’t want to speak to the police, contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. #AceNewsReport – Oct.12: Ms Giuffre is suing Prince Andrew in the US for allegedly sexually assaulting her when she was a teenager: Prince Andrew has consistently denied Ms Giuffre’s allegations.

#AceDailyNews says that according to BBC News the MET will not take any action after Prince Andrew review: In August, the MET said it would review its decision not to investigate allegations connected to Epstein.

On Sunday, the MET said: “As a matter of procedure, MPS officers reviewed a document released in August 2021 as part of a US civil action. This review has concluded and we are taking no further action.”

Ms Giuffre, 38, claims she was sexually assaulted by the prince at three locations – London, New York and on Epstein’s private island in the Caribbean.

Her case claims Prince Andrew engaged in sexual acts without Ms Giuffre’s consent, including when she was 17.

The Met also confirmed it had completed its review into allegations reported in June by broadcaster Channel 4 News that British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s former girlfriend, trafficked, groomed and abused women and girls in the UK.

The force said it had “reviewed information passed to us by a media organisation in June” and decided that “no further action will be taken”.

In August 2019, US financier Epstein was found dead in his cell in New York’s Metropolitan Correctional Center.

The Met previously ruled out opening an investigation into Epstein, but in August Metropolitan Police Commissioner Dame Cressida Dick said the force would review the decision.

The Met added that it will continue to liaise with other law enforcement agencies who are leading the investigation into matters associated with Epstein.
