(LONDON) Old Bailey Court Report: A man has been convicted on Monday following a ‘fatal stabbing’ in Croydon in 2020 #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – Sept.30: Jones, who had sporadically been treated for mental health issues over the past seven years, attacked his mother’s partner Paul McCarroll in an unprovoked attack on the evening of 20 November 2020…..Jones’ mother described the attack as sudden and inexplicable, and that, apart from minor disagreements about Jones’ sometimes difficult behavior, the two men had shared a civil relationship…..

#AceDailyNews reports on trial of Nicholas Jones, 35 (10.08.86) of Oaks Road, Kenley pleaded guilty to manslaughter due to diminished responsibility and was sentenced to an indefinite custodial hospital order under the Mental Health Act 1983 following a trial at the Old Bailey on Monday, 27 September.

CASE NOTES: In the early evening on the day of the attack, Jones’ mother spoke with her son about when he was planning to go to sleep, said goodnight, and went upstairs to her own bedroom where she sat on the bed with her partner whilst they both browsed on their phones: At around 18:00hrs Jones climbed the stairs, rushed in to the room and plunged a 15 inch knife in to Paul McCarroll’s torso, which entered his left lung and severed a main artery. Jones then immediately rushed out of the house and called the emergency services, giving them his full name, the name of the victim and stating that he had stabbed his mother’s partner because he believed that he was trying to “mind control” him. He also told officers who arrived at the scene that he had been hearing voices in his head for years: Emergency services worked incredibly hard to try to save Paul’s life, but he was pronounced dead at 18:50hrs: Detectives reviewing the case found that in January 2018, Jones had informed his GP that he could hear multiple different voices, sometimes saying negative things to him. Jones said that he would be frustrated and angry about the voices and had thrown and broken objects when the voices were ‘winding him up’.

Paul McCarroll’s sister Mel said: “The loss of my brother Paul through this terrible act of violence has left an agonising trauma that will resonate with us all for as long as we live. His granddaughter has been denied the chance to grow up surrounded by the love Paul would have shown her: The sentencing cannot bring us peace. This tragedy could have been prevented. All we can hope for is that no other families have to suffer the same fate we have.”

Detective Sergeant Quinn Cutler of the Met’s Specialist Central Crime team said: “Nicholas Jones committed a crime which has ultimately rendered a family without a brother, father and grandfather: Though we know that Paul’s family will never get over the loss of their loved one, we hope that the support of our officers has helped them in some way to get through it.”

(LONDON) Old Bailey Court UPDATE Report: Wayne Couzens Sentenced to ‘Full Life Sentence’ NO remission for the murder of Sarah Everard #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – Sept.30: An officer who strangled Sarah Everard with his police belt after kidnapping her under the guise of a fake arrest will die in jail: Wayne Couzens, 48, was handed a whole life order for the “grotesque” killing of the 33-year-old marketing executive which shocked and outraged the nation.

#AceDailyNews – Sarah Everard Murder Update Report: Sentencing at the Old Bailey on Thursday, Lord Justice Fulford said the seriousness of the case was so “exceptionally high” it warranted a whole life order.

Wayne Couzens
Wayne Couzens will spend the rest of his life in prison

MET: Statement by Sarah Everard’s family following sentencing of Wayne Couzens follows on from earlier statement we published here:

Sarah Everard

“We are very pleased that Wayne Couzens has received a full life sentence and will spend the rest of his life in jail. Nothing can make things better, nothing can bring Sarah back, but knowing he will be imprisoned forever brings some relief.

“Sarah lost her life needlessly and cruelly and all the years of life she had yet to enjoy were stolen from her. Wayne Couzens held a position of trust as a police officer and we are outraged and sickened that he abused this trust in order to lure Sarah to her death. The world is a safer place with him imprisoned.

“It is almost seven months since Sarah died and the pain of losing her is overwhelming. We miss her all the time. She was a beautiful young woman in looks and character and our lives are the poorer without her. We remember all the lovely things about Sarah – her compassion and kindness, her intelligence, her strong social conscience. But we especially like to remember her laughing and dancing and enjoying life. We hold her safe in our hearts.

“We are immensely grateful to the police and legal team who worked on Sarah’s case. We cannot thank them enough for their meticulous and painstaking work and for their constant support. We also send our heartfelt thanks to our family and friends for comforting us through this terrible time.”

(LONDON) Old Bailey Court Hearing Report: The mother of Sarah Everard has told a court she is “tormented” at the thought of what her daughter endured as the judge prepares to sentence him for this heinous crime #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – Sept.30: The sentencing hearing, which has been adjourned until Thursday, earlier heard how, on 3 March this year, Couzens used his police warrant card to trick Ms Everard into being handcuffed and getting in his hire car.

#AceDailyNews On Sarah Everard Murder: Our lives will never be the same again’ said the mother & father at the hearing ….as father ask the accused Wayne Couzens to look him straight in the eye…

Everard family Jeremy Everard asked for this photograph of his daughter to be shown at the Old Bailey as he read his victim impact statement

The 33-year-old marketing executive was abducted by Met Police officer Wayne Couzens as he falsely arrested her for breaching Covid guidelines.

Couzens drove for several hours before raping and strangling her, and setting fire to her body.

Ms Everard’s mother Susan told the Old Bailey she had kept her daughter’s dressing gown as it smelled like her.

She had been walking from a friend’s house in Clapham to her own home in Brixton at about 21:00 GMT.

CCTV was shown to the court which captured the moments leading up to Ms Everard being put in Couzens’ car.

Handout CCTV dated 03/03/21 issued by the Metropolitan Police of Wayne Couzens speaking to Sarah Everard by the side of the road in Poynders Court, South London. The 48-year-old former Metropolitan Police officer appeared at the Old Bailey in London, on Wednesday for the first day of a two-day sentence hearing after pleading guilty to the kidnap, rape and murder of Sarah Everard. Two witnesses saw him handcuff her but believed he was acting legitimately as a police officer.

‘I yearn for her’

Reading a victim impact statement in court, Mrs Everard said: “She spent the last hours on this Earth with the very worst of humanity.

“Sarah died in horrendous circumstances. I go through the sequence of events. I wonder when she realised she was in mortal danger.

“Burning her body was the final insult. It meant we could never again see her sweet face and never say goodbye.

“Our lives will never be the same. We should be a family of five, but now we are four. Her death leaves a yawning chasm in our lives that cannot be filled.

“I yearn for her. I remember all the lovely things about her: she was caring, she was funny. She was clever, but she was good at practical things too. She was a beautiful dancer. She was a wonderful daughter.”

Ms Everard’s father Jeremy asked for a photograph of his daughter to be shown to the courtroom as he read his impact statement.

He first, though, told Couzens to look at him, saying: “No punishment that you receive will ever compare to the pain and torture that you have inflicted on us.”

Prof Everard told the killer “there can be no redemption” for what he had done.

“All my family want is Sarah back with us. We loved being a part of Sarah’s world and expected her to have a full and happy life.

“The closest we can get to her now is to visit her grave every day.”A CCTV timeline shows key evidence used to arrest and prosecute Wayne Couzens

Couzens’ two-day sentencing hearing has been told that Ms Everard’s ordeal could be summarised as “deception, kidnap, rape, strangulation, fire”.

He had worked on Covid patrols in January, the court heard, and so would have known the appropriate formal terms regarding potential breaches.

In full: Sarah Everard’s family on their loss: Mrs Everard said: “In the evenings, at the time she was abducted, I let out a silent scream: ‘Don’t get in the car, Sarah. Don’t believe him. Run.'”

Lucy Manning, BBC special correspondent, from the Old Bailey:Elizabeth JonesProf Jeremy Everard addressed the courtroom after telling Couzens to look at himThe family of Sarah Everard were dignified as they described losing a daughter, a sister and even future generations of children………..Ms Everard’s sister Katie, mother Susan and father Jeremy all read out victim impact statements. Ms Everard’s father and sister both directly addressed Couzens – who had his head bowed – demanding he look at them as they spoke.Jeremy Everard told him: “I can never forgive you for what you have done, for taking Sarah away from us… she was handcuffed and unable to defend herself. “……….” You burnt our daughter’s body – you further tortured us – so that we could not see her again. You murdered our daughter and forever broke the hearts of her mother, father, brother, sisters, family and friends.”Katie Everard asked Couzens: “What could she have thought she had done wrong? What lies did you tell her? “……….When did she realise that she wasn’t going to survive the night?”A week after she disappeared, Ms Everard’s body was found in a woodland stream in Ashford, Kent, just metres from land owned by Couzens. Her body and clothes had been put inside a refrigerator and set alight before being moved in builders’ bags. The court heard that a couple of days after burning Ms Everard’s body, Couzens took his wife and two children on a family trip to the woods.

The Metropolitan Police has released footage from an interview with Couzens in his home on 9 March where he claimed not to know Ms Everard after being shown her picture.

Sarah Everard: Daughter, sister, friend and colleague Ms Everard’s sister Katie described packing up her younger sister’s “whole life” when collecting her possessions from the Brixton flat she never returned to: “Washing was left hanging and packages were waiting to be opened when she got home.”But she never got home because a predator – you – was on the loose……….Prowling the streets for hours looking for his prey.”My only hope is that she was in a state of shock and that she wasn’t aware of the disgusting things being done to her by a monster.”I want to speak to her and hug her and hear her laugh and go out for dinners and drinks and dancing.”All those conversations we can never have. There were so many things I wanted to share with her – trips abroad, being each other’s bridesmaid, meeting her babies and being an aunty, growing old together and seeing who got the most wrinkles.”You took her life. Children that will never be born. Generations that will never exist. “Her future no longer exists.”Couzens, who could be given a whole-life term, has admitted kidnap, murder and rape. He will be sentenced on Thursday…………………….The BBC is not responsible for the content of external sites.

(LONDON) Old Bailey Court Report: Four Newham gang members who killed a NHS worker while on a ‘ride out’ to a rival gang’s area have today been convicted of murder #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – Aug.20: David Gomoh, 24, who had no links to any gangs, was killed in the random attack shortly after leaving his home in east London, on the evening of 26 April last year, at the height of the first pandemic lockdown….

#AceDailyNews reports that four ‘Newham Gang Members’ convicted of NHS Worker David Gomah murder in April 2020 at the time of the first lockdown …

11 August 2021:

Vagnei Colubali, 23, David Ture, 19, Muhammad Jalloh, 19, and a 17 year-old boy – members or associates of a gang that operates in the north of Newham – drove to rival territory in the south Newham area that evening prepared to ‘inflict serious and fatal injury’, the prosecution told a jury at the Old Bailey all four will be sentenced in September..

For this so called ‘ride out to the opp block’ they had arranged for a stolen Dodge Caliper to be parked the previous evening in preparation, and went equipped with knives and a change of clothes. They had also turned off their phones to evade police detection.

They drove around looking for potential targets and spotted Mr Gomoh at Freemasons Road, E16. He was on the phone to his girlfriend when he was approached by three of the four defendants and was stabbed ten times in a frenzied attack. Mr Gomoh died shortly after of catastrophic injuries.

DNA evidence, CCTV and drawings of before, during and after the attack made by Ture, elements of which helped identify some of the other killers, were used to secure their conviction. One of Ture’s drawings, which helped to identify the gang

One of Ture's drawings, which helped to identify the gang
One of Ture’s drawings, which helped to identify the gang

Ture’s ‘childish doodles’ were recovered by the police in his bedroom drawer and showed the group at ‘Threemasons (sic) Road’ – the location of the killing. They also showed one of the gang members with an Armani man bag, which Colubali was seen wearing on CCTV.

Another of Ture's drawings, which placed the gang at the murder scene
Another of Ture’s drawings, which placed the gang at the location of the killing

The prosecution also relied on DNA evidence – which included the discovery of Jalloh’s DNA on sunglasses recovered from the back seat of the Dodge and the 17-year old’s DNA and David Gomoh’s blood upon sunglasses found at the scene of the attack. Both sunglasses belonged to the female owner of the stolen car.

All four will be sentenced on 17th September for murder and a further charge of conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm related to an earlier failed attack.

CPS lawyer Louise Attrill said: “This case has highlighted a very stark reality of the tragedy that ensues from so called postcode killings and gang rivalries. These individuals planned to kill anyone they came across who they believed was from the opposing gang. David Gomoh was tragically caught in the middle of this senseless feud and, despite having no connection with gangs, was killed without hesitation or mercy: These defendants continue to show no remorse for their actions, claiming mistaken identity or providing no defence at all, but the prosecution has systematically exposed them as liars. They were all part of a co-ordinated group that set out looking to maim and kill: The impact and fallout of this senseless killing – simply to prove their allegiance to a gang – is far reaching. Their victim’s family and friends are left grieving from the loss of an innocent young man who had a promising future ahead. Our thoughts remain very much with them at this time and, while nothing can bring David back, we hope these convictions provide some comfort to them.”

Additional Notes:

  • Vagnei Colubali (DOB: 18/01/1998) is from Cambridge
  • Muhammad Jalloh (DOB: 05/12/2001) is from Pinner
  • David Ture (DOB: 09/10/2001) is of no fixed abode
  • The 17 year-old boy (DOB: 16/09/2003) is from Telford
  • Louise Attrill is a Senior Crown Prosecutor within the London CPS Homicide Team.

(LONDON) Old Bailey Court Report: Four people who fatally stabbed a 24-year-old NHS worker because he lived in south Newham have been found guilty of murder #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – Aug.12: Mohammad Jalloh, 19 (05.12.01), of Watt Street, Wapping; Vagnei Colubali, 23 (18.01.98) of Suffolk Road, Enfield; David Ture, 19 (09.11.01) of Bloomsbury Street, Camden and a 17-year-old male from Telford, Shropshire were convicted at the Old Bailey following a six-week trial which concluded on Wednesday, 11 August.

#AceDailyNews Court Report: Four guilty of murdering NHS worker in Newham after a six-week-trial ended yesterday Wednesday in the Old Bailey and they will be sentenced at the same court on Tuesday, 17 September.

[David Gomoh]

David was stabbed at least nine times by the group as he walked down Freemasons Road, E16 while on the phone to his girlfriend: He managed to stagger back to his home address where he collapsed on the ground outside. Despite being given emergency surgery in the street, David died soon after arriving at hospital.

Detective Chief Inspector Laurence Smith, who led the investigation, said: “David was a young man with ambitions to make something of himself but his life was cruelly snatched away at the age of just 24: He was not involved in any gang nor was he mistaken by the group for someone they knew. His only crime – in their eyes – was that he lived in the wrong part of Newham and so was classed as a rival: His family not only had to deal with the trauma of witnessing him dying outside of their own home but now have to face the reality of living without their son and brother for the rest of their lives: The court heard that on Sunday, 26 April 2020, the group – who all had links to gangs – armed themselves with knives and set out from a hotel in Stratford towards Canning Town in a stolen car fitted with false plates: They had just one purpose – to hunt out a potential ‘rival’ from Canning Town which they saw as ‘enemy territory: CCTV played in court showed that less than an hour before they set upon David, the defendants came across another man who they chased, carrying their weapons in their hands. Fortunately, he managed to outrun the group: Cameras on board a bus then captured the car turning its lights off and stopping beside David, who turned to run as the doors to the vehicle opened. The attack itself was also caught on CCTV: His girlfriend, who he was speaking to at the time, heard a male voice ask ‘where are you from’ before the phone call ended.

Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command quickly began an investigation and the stolen car was found abandoned in Lincoln Road, E13, less than a mile from the scene of the fatal stabbing: A pair of sunglasses were found on the back seat of the vehicle, with DNA evidence linking them to Mohammad Jalloh. Another pair of sunglasses was recovered from the scene of the attack; DNA from the 17-year-old was found upon the left arm: CCTV seized also showed the four defendants meeting up earlier that day, leaving the same hotel in Forest Gate and walking down the road where they had parked the stolen car the previous evening. The car itself is then captured numerous times on CCTV as it made its journey south towards Freemasons Road: During a search of Ture’s address, a series of graphic drawings were located which appeared to depict the fatal stabbing. Not only was the address of the murder identified but the clothing worn by the group was also shown.

DCI Smith added: “The four defendants set out that night ready and armed for savage violence and it was obvious from the evidence gathered that their attack was premeditated: What they had not worked out was who their victim would be. They did not know David, they did not care who he was or whether he was involved in a rival gang. He was simply a fair target in their petty game: Our thoughts remain with David’s family who have conducted themselves with dignity throughout the investigation and trial. Nothing will ever bring David back but we hope knowing his killers will be behind bars brings some measure of comfort as they continue to grieve.”

David’s mum Marian said: “David’s murder is without doubt the hardest thing my family and I have been through. It is something that no parent should ever go through. While this has been painful beyond words, I am beyond grateful to God that today we have seen justice and the four men who took my son’s life have been found guilty: The family would like to thank all the first responders on the scene that fateful night; the media, the police, especially the investigating officers, who have worked so hard to secure justice for David Jason Junior Gomoh, who was such a charismatic, intelligent and focused young gentleman: Nothing will bring back a life that was so full of promise and hope, a life that was brutally taken away from us; but we are grateful that now we can begin to mourn and build a fitting legacy for David.”

(LONDON) Old Bailey Court Report: A violent and dangerous man has been sentenced after being convicted of a series of sex attacks on women in Tower Hamlets in 2020: #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – Aug.10: He was found guilty of sexual assault by penetration and attempted sexual assault by penetration at the same court on Thursday, 8 August. He had previously pleaded guilty to a further sexual assault on another victim ahead of the trial….

#AceDailyNews reports that a man has been jailed for series of sex attacks in Tower Hamlets: Ali Husseini, 27 (25.04.1994), of Poplar High Street, E14, was sentenced at the Old Bailey on Friday, 6 August to six years and nine months’ imprisonment. He will also be subject to a sexual harm prevention order for ten years and placed on the sex offenders’ register.

[JAILED: Ali Husseini]

The court heard how Husseini would follow lone women into the subway underneath the A12 in the Poplar area. Upon picking his victim, he would chase them and sexually assault them.

On 10 August 2020, Husseini followed a 32-year-old woman as she returned home from nearby shops. As she walked through the subway he ran and grabbed the victim by her throat, forcing her forwards before sexually assaulting her. The victim was able to bite Husseini’s arm causing him to let go and run away.

On 3 September 2020, Husseini targeted a heavily pregnant female as she walked through the empty subway back to work. The victim heard heavy footsteps behind her and Husseini slapped her from behind, causing the victim to scream and run away.

On 4 September 2020, Husseini followed a 20-year-old female as she walked home from work. Husseini held her by the throat up against the wall of the subway and began touching her. He then tried to undo the victim’s trousers zip and started to undo his own. The victim began screaming which caused Husseini to run away.

Following an investigation, Husseini was apprehended and arrested on 24 September 2020. He was charged on 25 September 2020 and remanded in custody.

Detective Constable Charlotte Baghurst, from the Specialist Crime Command, said: “Husseini carried out a number of violent and predatory attacks over a prolonged period of time, assaulting women as they unassumingly went about their day-to-day business. He targeted lone women and instilled fear in a community for a number of weeks. The verdict has certainly put a dangerous and predatory criminal behind bars: The impact of his actions on the victims is beyond imagination. I want to express my gratitude to these incredibly brave women who came forward to support this investigation, without which I have no doubt that Husseini would have continued his offending. I hope that the verdict offers some justice and reassurance as they work to rebuild their lives: The Met is absolutely committed to bringing justice to victims of sexual assault, and to making women and girls feel safe in London. Our teams stop at nothing to investigate reports of sexual offences and to provide support to victims.”

#AceUKNews – LONDON – April 16 – (BBC) – Andy Coulson has revealed for the first time that he did listen to private voicemail messages relating to former home secretary David Blunkett.

The ex-News of the World editor said that when he did so in August 2004 it was “the first and the only time
voicemail messages were played to me”.

Who are the defendants?

He told the hacking trial he now knew the material “was the product of an illegal act”, but was not aware then.

Mr Coulson, 46, denies the charges against him.

He is accused of conspiracy to hack phones and conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public office.

Mr Coulson, who became Downing Street director of communications after leaving the News of the World, is testifying at the Old Bailey for a third day.

He was also asked about using the phrase “do his phone” in an email, which he said was not a reference to hacking TV celebrity Calum Best’s mobile phone but was in relation to an inquiry into a reporter at the paper.

Michael Adebolajo, 29 and Michael Adebowale, 22 were read out their jail terms late Wednesday afternoon at the Old Baily court in London.

Before the sentences were given, the two scuffled with security guards, meaning the sentence was delivered while they were absent.

The judge, Mr Justice Sweeney, described the actions of the pair as “sickening.”
