#AceWorldNews – Moscow – March 19.

Russia’s Deputy Defence Minister Anatoly Antonov said Britain’s decision to suspend military cooperation with Russia cancelled out all agreements, which had been reached earlier. “Unilateral curtailing of cooperation cancels out all positive agreements, which were reached earlier,” Antonov said. “In recent times, Russia and Britain have exerted maximum effort to develop military mutually advantageous contracts,” the deputy minister said, adding “Russia praises Britain’s progress in ensuring security of the Olympic Games in London”. “In 2014, Russia and UK intended to hold several joint events. Most of them were planned to take place in Russia,” Antonov said. #ANS2014

#AceWorldNews says `IOC Seeking Further Clarification after `Russian Environmental Campaigner Yevgeny Vitishko’ was Jailed’

The International Olympic Committee asked the Russian organizers of the Sochi Winter Games on Thursday for more details about the jailing of an environmental campaigner, Reuters said. Yevgeny Vitishko has protested against harm done to the environment by Olympic construction work.

He lost an appeal against his three-year penal colony sentence on Wednesday on charges of damaging the property of the local Krasnodar region‘s governor.

“We have asked Sochi for further clarification,” IOC spokesman Mark Adams said. Vitishko has denied the charges, saying that the governor’s residence was in a national forest where construction was not supposed to be permitted.

#Sochi : “Putin Meets Yanukovich on sidelines of the `Olympic Games’ contents of talk were not revealed”

#AceWorldNews says the presidents of Russia and Ukraine had a private meeting in Sochi on the sidelines of the Olympic Games, a spokesman for Putin said.

The contents of the talk were not revealed, but if the two leaders chose to discuss politics rather than sports, the political turmoil in Ukraine, and Russian aid to its western neighbour, are likely to be on the table.

#Sochi : ` Multi-Faith Prayers Centres Have Opened in Three Olympic Villages ‘

#AceNewsServices says MOSCOW, February 06, /ITAR-TASS/. Multi-faith prayer centers have opened in three Olympic villages in the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi that will host the 2014 Winter Olympic Games on February 7-23, clerics who inspected them told Itar-Tass Wednesday.

Sochi-2014-Olympic-games-wallpaperVolunteers and clergy from Russia’s traditional faiths – Christianity, Islam, Judaism and Buddhism – Orthodox Christian priests, Catholic and Protestant clergy, imams, rabbis and lamas – will be on duty round the clock at the centres in the Coastal, Mountain and Endurance Olympic villages.

“The prayer centres contain separate rooms for Orthodox Christians, Western Rite Christians, Muslims, Jews, Buddhists and Hindus. This is the Sochi Olympics’ advantage over many others, which had only one prayer room for all religions and denominations,” a spokesman for the Russian Orthodox Church told Itar-Tass.

The Moscow Patriarchate also said Orthodox priests had already consecrated their prayer rooms and then visited the headquarters of the Russian Olympic national team, where they worshipped an icon of St. George the Victory-Bearer that has accompanied Russian Olympic teams since 2004.

Roman Catholic Church clerics told Itar-Tass how their prayer rooms would be organized. Priests furnished the rooms themselves, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Moscow said.

“There are altars in two of them, crosses, icons of Our Lady of Czestochowa and portraits of Pope Francis hang on walls. The third room in the Mountain Village that will be used jointly with Orthodox Christians also has icons and all necessary items to celebrate Mass, even folding chairs unusual for Orthodox liturgical rooms,” the archdiocese said.

Catholic clerics will arrive from different countries, including together with delegations of foreign athletes.

One of the key concerns for Russia’s Federation of Jewish Communities was to organize kosher nutrition for the upcoming Olympics. “It was hard to provide it, as Sochi had no kosher restaurants until now,” Russia’s Chief Rabbi Berl Lazar said. Now it is possible to order the food in canteens in the Olympic village, and there is special cuisine and a kosher food store in Sochi.

The Council of Muftis told Itar-Tass that their prayer rooms “contain, like it is said in the instructions, separate rooms for prayers by men and women.” Imams working in multi-faith centres will represent the Spiritual Directorate of Muslims of Adygea and the Krasnodar Territory in south Russia. An international halal certification center has checked special food.

The Olympic Committee’s demand is that each faith’s prayer room should have at least two clerics. Volunteers – cultural and religion studies students – will answer questions from visitors, distribute brochures on the history of various religions and show films.

Organizers do not think regular mass divine services would be held in the multi-faith centres. For example, Orthodox priests do not plan to hold liturgy or administer other sacraments in prayer rooms other than the one in the Coastal Village. But each guest will be able to pray or talk to a priest as well as take part in common prayers there.

Sunday Trading Not For Families

Sunday Morning

Sunday Morning (Photo credit: jspaw)

The Sunday Telegraph reports that some leading Conservatives have called for an extension to retail opening hours on Sundays. Trading restrictions on bigger stores have been dropped for six weeks this summer to coincide with the Olympics. The ministers are said to be keen to use this as a springboard for longer hours to be allowed permanently. However, Liberal Democrats oppose such a move, which would also likely be fought by unions, small businesses and the Church.

For many a year and way back to The Sunday Trading Act 1994 has been an Act of Parliament in the United Kingdom governing the right of shops in England and Wales to trade on a Sunday. Buying and selling on Sunday had previously been illegal, with exceptions, under the Shops Act 1950.

On many occasions successive governments have tried for a change to enable retail outlets to open on Sunday! This will if allowed to happen under this government l can see many a family unit suffering! We already have lost the time when families would sit around the dinner table to share a meal, has gone by the way of the dodo! So this leaves the only day when all the family can spend time together with their children.

It has always seemed that shop keepers and now certain retail outlets have expected their workers to turn in come rain or shine, whilst managers and directors are languishing by their pools!

So l say a resounding NO! to Sunday opening not on religious grounds, not on be a kill-joy but for the good of harmony in households!

Sunday should be a family day to break bread and share together!

Challenging Our Free Right To Strike

Two women strikers on picket line during the &...

I am not a person that believes in strike action per se but when it comes down to ” Free Rights ” l am firmly behind the people in their action’s! This is not just a case of preventing people striking it is the effect it will have on the way this country will look to the world, during the Olympic‘s! So my reason for posting this article from the Telegraph thanks to Ben Brogan being acknowledged. Is simply l do not believe that we have the right for the wrong reason to prevent anyone from striking for what they believe is their God-given right of ” Free Will”

BREAKING: Jeremy Hunt just spoke to Jim Naughtie on the Today programme about how the government is dealing with the Olympic security challenges and the planned strike action by border staff. He said the deployment of further troops to guard the security of the Games was not promoted by further failures by G4’s but simply because he didn’t want to “leave anything to chance”.

He stressed that G4’s failings were with the management not the workers, and that it was important not to “demonise” those working at the Games.

On the border strike, he said “we can be very confident of the provisions we have in place”, but added that he thought the eve of the Olympics was “the wrong time to strike”.
