#AceWorldNews – THE HAGUE- April 04 – The twelfth consignment of chemical weapons was on Friday taken out of Syria, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) reported.
“The OPCW-UN Joint Mission in Syria has confirmed that a 12th consignment of chemicals has been transported to the port of Latakia and removed from the country,” the OPCW said in a statement on its website.
#AceWorldNews says that the EU has allocated over 12 million euro to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons on Monday to help pay for the dismantling of Syria’s chemical weapons program, AFP said.
The funds had been pledged to the OPCW in December by EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton to help cover the 25-million to 30-million euro cost of destroying the chemical materials.
They were signed over to the OPCW by the EU’s Development Commissioner Andris Piebalgs.
