‘ Middle East is Ruled by Militias That Have Risen Since Arab Spring ‘

#AceNewsServices (Opinion) – October 14 – Embattled governments in Iraq and Syria have come to rely on Shiite militias as their armies have crumbled in the face of mostly Sunni insurgents and rebels.

In Libya, various armed groups loosely allied with two rival governments have fought over bullet-riddled airports.

Shiite rebels in Yemen have swept down from the north, capturing the capital and, on Tuesday, a key port city.

The chaos unleashed by the Arab Spring has led to the rise of powerful militias – including many Islamic extremist groups – across a Middle East where many central governments have been exposed as weak.

Some of the groups are allied with the governments, while others are fighting to topple them.

Some – like the Kurdish peshmerga in northern Iraq – are seen as vital allies for the West.

All could prove to be major obstacles to peace or stability in the region.

‘ John Kerry Says All Borders Linked to Territories Occupied by Islamic State Should be Closed ‘

#AceWorldNews – UNITED STATES (Washington)- September 19 – Borders which link up to territory occupied by Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militants should be closed as part of international efforts to defeat the group, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said in an interview with Al Arabiya News Channel on Friday.

In the interview in video, which aired the same day, Kerry said that the U.S. had secured “significant guarantees” from American allies in the Middle East.

We must shut borders,” he said. “There are guarantees to help on foreign fighters, on financing, on borders – border control, on military, on aid, training, and even on direct military action.”

Kerry also praised Iraqi Kurdish Peshmerga forces, who he described as being “absolutely critical” in the fight against ISIS.

Baghdad and others within Iraq as a whole should say thank you to the Peshmerga who have been essential in the fight of taking back Mosul Dam, of holding the line so that ISIL could not go to Erbil,” he said.

' Islamic State Claims Execution of British Aid Worker David Haines '

#AceBreakingNews – September 14 – Islamic State jihadists have released a video which they claim shows the beheading of a 44-year-old British aid worker, David Haines, who has been held hostage since his abduction last year RT reported.

The masked man in the latest video released across social media on Saturday night claims that Haines was killed because of UK Prime Minister David Cameron’s pledge to arm Kurdish forces in order to battle the jihadist group, according to reports.

This British man has to pay the price for your promise, Cameron, to arm the Peshmerga against the Islamic State,” the executioner said, according to liveleak.

My name is David Cawthorne Haines,” the hostage reportedly said before the execution.

I would like to declare that I hold you, David Cameron, entirely responsible for my execution. You entered voluntarily into a coalition with the United States against the Islamic State, just as your predecessor, Tony Blair, did, following a trend amongst our British Prime Ministers who can’t find the courage to say no to the Americans.”

The video footage was similar to that of the executions of two American journalists,James Foley and Steven Sotloff, by Islamic State militants.

The murder of David Haines is an act of pure evil. My heart goes out to his family who have shown extraordinary courage and fortitude.

The UK Foreign Office confirmed Sunday that the video was genuine.

All the signs are that the video is genuine. We have no reason to believe that it’s not,” a spokesman told AFP.
