@AceNewsServices ‘ Ukrainian Parliament sacks security service chief over Oil depot cover-up ‘

#AceNewsReport – UKRAINE:June.18: The Ukrainian parliament on Thursday dismissed Valentin Nalivaychenko as the head of the security service (SBU), Sputnik reported.

President Petro Poroshenko earlier asked the Verkhovnaya Rada to support his initiative to sack the SBU head, and 248 MPs agreed. Nalivaychenko was appointed the SBU head last February, and also headed the service in 2006-10.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on Thursday submitted a decree to the parliament in Kiev to dismiss Ukrainian Security Service chief Valentin Nalivaychenko.

The SBU chief had earlier been questioned by prosecutors after he accused Deputy Attorney General Anatoly Danylenko of covering up an oil depot fire near Kiev.

The disagreement was seen as a new sign of infighting between the Prosecutor General’s Office and the security services, Sputnik reported.

Poroshenko’s representatives say the president wants to see a career security services employee as the SBU chief, rather than a politician or a diplomat.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has refused to include south-eastern militia in the peace negotiations which are aimed at resolving the conflict in the country, according to his press-service.

Explaining his decision at the meeting with Netherlands’ Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans in Kiev, Poroshenko said the militia forces are to blame for the MH17 flight crash that happened on Thursday when the Malaysia airline’s plane was downed near Donetsk, resulting in 298 deaths.

Speaking about the settlement of the conflict in the Donbas, Poroshenko noted that those who are related to a terrorist attack cannot be a party in the negotiations. Their crime should be investigated in international courts,” said the press service.

Kiev armed forces are concentrating on Donetsk’s western borders preparing for an assault on the city, representative of DPR self-defense forces told RIA Novosti.

The representative also told the agency that despite a temporary truce over the MH17 flight incident, the fighting continues to the south of the city, as well as other areas. He said the anti-Kiev forces also engaged in fighting near Donetsk airport where there is a large concentration of Kiev forces.

The representative added that villages surrounding the airport suffered civilian loses, as Ukrainian tanks and four Grad rockets shelled the villages of Peski, Tonenkoe, and Andreevka. After the shelling, Ukrainian forces took the communities of Severnoe and Tonenkoe by deploying four tanks in the villages.

US President Barack Obama is once again pressuring his European allies to impose more sanctions on Russia, as he spoke to German Chancellor Angela Merkel and British Prime Minister David Cameron on the phone.

“While agreeing to continue efforts to find a diplomatic solution to the current crisis, they reaffirmed their determination to remain in close contact as they consider what additional actions  may be required,” the White House said of Obama’s call with Merkel.

“They emphasized that Russia bears a clear responsibility to deny separatists in eastern Ukraine  continued access to heavy weapons and other support from inside Russia,” it said.

In their separate call, Obama and Cameron “reiterated the need to take further action if Russia continues to fail to take … steps” to de-escalate the Ukraine conflict, the White House said.

' Lavrov: ' US Decides to Give Consent to Poroshenko to Suppress Disagreement With His Policy by Force'

#AceWorldNews – UNITED STATES – July 19 – The United States has decided to give consent to Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko to suppress everybody who disagrees with his policy by force, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with the Russia 24 TV news channel on Friday reported Tass.

“There is no dialogue with the opposition forces in Ukraine. This is an official stance, which the United States is distributing worldwide,” the Russian foreign minister went on to say.

“There is no need to prove that this approach is no-go,” Lavrov stressed.

“A biased stance in this situation means only one thing: Washington has decided to give the go-ahead to the military suppression of those who disagrees with Poroshenko’s policy.

This is a criminal decision. I do hope that it is going to be revised,” Lavrov concluded.

`Ukraine National Guard Detain Two Journalists from Russian TV Channel '

#AceNewsServices – UKRAINE (Slavyansk) – June 08 – Ukraine’s National Guard have detained two journalists from Russian TV channel Zvezda at a military roadblock near the city of Slavyansk.

According to their driver, during a routine check they were blindfolded and taken to an undisclosed location.

Ukrainian MP kicks out Russian journos from parliament, calls them ‘spies’ Video:

Video operator Andrey Sushenkov and sound engineer Anton Malyshev have been unreachable since 14:30 GMT Friday afternoon, Zvezda TV announced on its website. The crew was heading from Donetsk to Slavyansk, the scene of intense fighting between the pro-Kiev forces and self-defence militia.

“At the approaches to Slavyansk we got in touch by phone. They said National Guards were searching them and they would call back as soon as the search is over. Since then their numbers are unobtainable,” said Zvezda correspondent Evgeniy Davydov, who was in touch with the crew during their stay in Ukraine.

Their driver, Ruslan Zaslavsky, a local citizen of Slavyansk, was also briefly detained, but released several hours later.

The National Guards have checked the numbers of entry stamps in journalists’ passports with someone they contacted on the radio, before a man in plain military uniform – without a helmet or body armor – took the guys away, Zaslavsky said.

“I saw them putting balaclavas on the guys’ heads, but the wrong way about, so that they could not see anything,” Zaslavsky told Zvezda after his release. “

They were forced on their knees.“

The TV crew must have been taken to nearby Kharkov or Izyum, Zaslavsky suggested, as the roadblock was located about 5 kilometers from Slavyansk in the ”middle of nowhere“ – between two fields – and the National Guard did not even have a tent there.

“The channel’s directors call on the newly elected president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko to release Andrey Sushenkov, Anton Malyshev,” the head of Zvezda holding Aleksey Pimanov wrote in a statement, asking the international journalist community for support in securing the release of their colleagues.

This is not the first time Russian journalists working in Ukraine disappear after encountering the National Guard.

On May 18, two Russian journalists working for LifeNews TV channel – reporter Oleg Sidyakin and cameraman Marat Saichenko – were captured by Kiev forces near the eastern city of Kramatorsk. Initially accused of “aiding the terrorist groups,” they were released a week later – without any charges pressed or evidence of their crimes provided – after a wave of outrage by rights groups and Russian politicians and media.

` Pro-Russian Rebels Launch Serious Attack on Lugansk Airport ‘

#AceWorldNews – UKRAINE (Lugansk) – Pro-Russian rebels fighting Ukraine’s Western-backed government have launched their most serious attacks yet on Lugansk International Airport in the east of the country, a military source said Sunday.

The assaults, which took place Saturday evening and Sunday morning in the immediate wake of the inauguration of Ukraine’s new President Petro Poroshenko, did not result in any injuries among the defenders, he said.

“It was clear the rebels were trying to destroy the building which controls the power supply to the airport,” said the source, one of the Ukrainian paratroopers guarding the airport, talking to AFP by telephone.

“It’s the first time we have had an attack of this kind. Up till now, we’ve only had a few skirmishes,” said the soldier, who identified himself only as Sergiy.

Pro-Russian separatist proclaimed the independence of the “Lugansk People’s Republic” in May, at about the same time as the neighbouring “Donetsk People’s Republic”.

The two districts have been the scene of ceaseless fighting between Ukrainian forces and pro-Russian insurgents that have killed more than 200 people since mid-April.

When approached by AFP, a spokesman for the “Lugansk People’s Republic” could not confirm the assaults on the airport, which has been closed for the past month because of the instability in the region.

The airport is one among very few areas in the Lugansk not controlled by the separatists, who have taken over most of the cities, set up numerous roadblocks and recently seized several checkpoints on the border with Russia.

` Barack Obama and Petro Poroshenko Shake Hands on Military Deal ‘

#AceNewsServicesUNITED STATES– June 04  – The US has pledged additional military help to Ukraine as well as potential training of its law enforcement and military personnel.

President Obama’s vows comes as Kiev continues air strikes as a part of its military operation in south-eastern Ukraine.

The US has pledged additional military help to Ukraine as well as potential training of its law enforcement and military personnel. President Obama’s vows comes as Kiev continues air strikes as a part of its military operation in south-eastern Ukraine.

Obama pledges $1bn for more troops, military drills in E. Europe

Since March, the White House has approved more than $23 million in security assistance to Ukraine. Now the US is providing additional $5 million aid for “the provision of body armour, night vision goggles and additional communications equipment.”

The White House said other aid for Ukraine has included 300,000 ready-to-eat meals and financing for medical supplies, helmets, hand-held radios and other equipment.

The United States is absolutely committed to standing behind the Ukrainian people not just in the coming days, weeks, but in the coming years,” Obama said.

Obama said it was critical that other countries also support Poroshenko and Ukraine’s new government, including by training its military and police.

Obama’s statement comes a day after he pledged to invest $1 billion in stepping up the US military presence in Eastern Europe amid the Ukrainian crisis.

So far the US has deployed 600 troops for military drills in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Poland.

“As allies, we have a solemn duty – a binding treaty obligation – to defend your territorial integrity. And we will,” Obama said, according to Reuters. “Poland will never stand alone. Estonia will never stand alone. Latvia will never stand alone. Lithuania will never stand alone. Romania will never stand alone.”

At a separate meeting in Brussels, NATO has said that as an alliance it will not provide military assistance to Ukraine, although individual member states can do so.

NATO said it would “will finalize a comprehensive package of long-term measures to make Ukraine’s reforms more effective and its armed forces stronger” later this month.

“We agreed that we will continue to reinforce NATO’s collective defence with more air and sea patrols and more exercises and training from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea and the Mediterranean,” NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said.

President Obama has called Poroshenko’s victory in the May 25 election a“wise selection.”

Confirmed: Ukrainian air force fired over 150 missiles at Lugansk, bombed admin HQ

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Obama said the two discussed Poroshenko’s plan to restore peace, increase GDP and reduce the country’s economic dependence on Russia.

“In my discussions with him today it’s clear he understands the hopes and aspirations of the Ukrainian people,” Obama said.

Billionaire Petro Poroshenko won Ukraine’s May 25 presidential election and will be sworn in as the country’s new leader on Saturday.

Poroshenko announced that Kiev would step up its military operation shortly after exit polls predicted his victory in the election, saying that Kiev’s activities in the southeast of the country “will be more effective and military units must be better equipped.”

Following Poroshenko’s statement, the situation in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions significantly deteriorated as clashes between self-defence forces and Kiev troops intensified. In the course of the following two days, Kiev deployed fighter jets and helicopters to attack Donetsk International Airport.

In Lugansk, Kiev admitted firing “more than 150 missiles” from fighter jets on Monday alone.

The total death toll as a result of the so-called “anti-terrorist” operation has so far been put at 181 people, including 59 of the ruling regime’s troops. Another 293 injured people were injured. These figures were stated by the country’s Prosecutor General, Oleg Makhnitsky, on Tuesday. However, it is unclear if the number of fatalities includes self-defense forces as well.

On Wednesday, the spokesman for the anti-terrorist operation, Vladislav Seleznev, said that 300 self-defense fighters had been killed in the last 24 hours.

However, self-defence units denied these numbers, saying their losses in the last day were far fewer – two killed and 45 injured.

` Petro Poroshenko Sets Out His Stall with Criminal Investigations of Viktor Yanukovych and his Cabinet '

#AceWorldNews – VIENNA – May 30 – Ukraine’s President-elect Petro Poroshenko is set to initiate criminal proceedings against Viktor Yanukovych’s cabinet of ministers, sources close to the former Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said on Friday, citing information from the Ukrainian president’s office.

` School and Kindergarten Shelled in Slavyansk ‘

#AceNewsServices – SLAVYANSK – May 28 – A school and a kindergarten have been shelled in Slavyansk as the city becomes increasingly unsafe in the intensified Kiev military campaign. At least 9 civilians were injured in Wednesday’s shelling incidents, including a child.

Slaviansk update

Ukrainian mortar shells have for weeks been raining down on the checkpoints and positions of the Slavyansk self-defense, but much of the shelling occurred outside the city. Italian journalist Andrea Rocchelli and his Russian interpreter, veteran human rights activist Andrey Mironov, were almost torn to pieces in one such shelling.

However, this week the battleground apparently moved right into civilian quarters of Slavyansk, as shells started hitting residential blocks and nearby buildings, killing three people on Monday.

On Wednesday, there was a shocking reminder of how the situation might unfold if the likely president-elect Petro Poroshenko pushes on with the military operation in the region, as shells struck the city’s streets, yards, a school and a kindergarten.

RT talked to a male schoolteacher from Slavyansk school number 13, who asked not to be named.

“Around midday there was a loud explosion in the school, and I fell to the floor, taking cover,” the teacher told RT over the phone.

The man said that he rushed to the corridor to assemble all the teachers and children in the school and take them to a safe place. Clouds of dust were billowing on one side of the building.

According to the teacher, it turned out that the shell exploded right above the school hall, where children are usually gathered for festive events, and part of the roof “was simply blown away.”

Luckily, no children were in the hall at the time.

All the pupils and teachers were quickly evacuated to the basement.

On the election day, May 25, Poroshenko said his two principal positions in the relations between Ukraine and Russia were non-recognition of Crimea’s accession to Russia and self-determination referendums in eastern Ukraine.

However, he added, his first visit as president would be exactly to the coal-mining region of Donbass in Ukraine’s east where the Donetsk and Luhansk regions voted for independence.

Poroshenko said he would like to meet with the Russian leadership early next month. He said that settling the situation in Ukraine’s southeast would be impossible without Moscow. “Russia is our biggest neighbour,” Poroshenko stressed.

`Poroshenko Calls on Kiev to Lay Mines at TV Stations to Block Russian Channels’

#AceWorldNews – KIEV – May 13  – Ukrainian presidential nominee Petro Poroshenko on Tuesday called on the authorities in Kiev to go as far as laying mines at television towers to block access to Russian television channels for Ukrainians.

Petro Pyroshenko

“Today, we need to protect TV towers and lay mines there if necessary. Anyway, it is impossible to allow our people to be exposed to the Russian propaganda because that is creating a big problem,” Poroshenko said in a live interview with Ukraine’s ICTV television channel.

Poroshenko thanked all Ukrainian television channels for an initiative to remove all TV series and films about the Russian army from air.

Poroshenko earlier told media he had provided assistance to Euromaidan protesters in Kiev. “Euromaidan” is the unofficial name for anti-government protests in Ukraine that started when President Viktor Yanukovych refused to sign an association agreement with the European Union last year to study the deal more thoroughly.
