TUSCON: ‘ Immigrant in church for past will not leave as she fears deportation to Mexico ‘

#AceNewsReport – TUSCON:Aug.08: Rosa Robles Loreto could leave the small, Tucson church where she has spent the past year. But there is no guarantee she won’t be sent back to Mexico, her native country.

That’s enough to convince her to stay put, seeing her family only when they visit the church and missing her sons’ baseball games and first day at school.

She isn’t alone. Two other immigrants living in the U.S. illegally remain in churches to avoid deportation, all women who are afraid of going to their home country for different reasons. They are like many immigrants left behind by immigration reforms.

Robles Loreto’s case is unique in that her entire family is living in the U.S. illegally. In other cases, her attorney says, the government has granted leniency to immigrants whose children are U.S. citizens as part of President Barack Obama’s policy to try to keep families together.

Robles Loreto says she is not leaving Southside Presbyterian Church until she has certainty that she will not be deported. Her case began five years ago when she was pulled over for a traffic infraction and turned over to immigration authorities. She began living at the church on Aug. 7, 2014.

‘ Senator Pat Roberts Vows to Stop Obama from closing GITMO and transferring detainees to United States ‘

#AceWorldNews – UNITED STATES (Kansas) – October 11 – Senator Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) on Friday vowed to block all legislation in the Senate with a prolonged filibuster if President Obama tries to transfer detainees from Guantanamo Bay to the United States.

A day after Tea Party hero Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) campaigned with him in Wichita, Roberts threatened to wage a marathon talk session similar to the one Cruz held last year to protest the implementation of ObamaCare.

“I stopped him once from trying to send a Gitmo terrorist to Leavenworth. I shall do it again, I shall do it again and if he tries it again I will shut down the Senate,” Roberts said, referring to the military prison located sixty miles east of his campaign headquarters in Topeka where he spoke to campaign volunteers.

Roberts made a similar threat back in 2009, when Obama originally signalled he wanted to relocate detainees to the United States.

At the time, the disciplinary barracks at Fort Leavenworth, as well as a maximum-security prison in Obama’s home state of Illinois were being considered to house the prisoners.

Roberts told reporters that he would hold the Senate floor for hours on end if necessary to stop Obama.

UNITED STATES: ‘ Cornel West Calls Obama the Black Face of the American Empire ‘

#AceNewsServices – UNITED STATES – October 07 – Activist and public intellectual Cornel West has lashed out at President Obama’s run as the United States’ top official, calling him the “Black face of the American empire.” He says Obama has marginalized social movements that criticize US policies.

In an excerpt from his upcoming book, titled ‘Black Prophetic Fire,’ the controversial Union Theological Seminary professor claims that President Obama’s ascendancy represents a large shift of African-American leaders enmeshing themselves with the political establishment.

As a result, West argues that Obama’s presidency has made it harder for African-Americans to criticize US policies which continue to make their lives difficult.

“The unprecedented historical symbolism of the first Black president has misled many if not most Black people to downplay his substantial neo-liberal policies and elevate his [and his family’s] brilliant and charismatic presence,” West writes in the excerpt, which was published on-line by Salon.

UNITED STATES: ‘ Public Support for Obama-Care Languishes at Lowest Level of Support for Four Years Since Inception ‘

#AceNewsServices – WASHINGTON – Public support for President Barack Obama’s health care law is languishing at its lowest level since passage of the landmark legislation four years ago, according to a new poll.

' Obama’s health care fails to gain support; Americans expect fixes, not repeal '

‘ Obama’s health care fails to gain support; Americans expect fixes, not repeal ‘

The Associated Press-GfK survey finds that 26 percent of Americans support the Affordable Care Act. Yet even fewer — 13 percent — think it will be completely repealed. A narrow majority expects the law to be further implemented with minor changes, or as passed.

“To get something repealed that has been passed is pretty impossible,” said Gwen Sliger of Dallas. “At this point, I don’t see that happening.”

Sliger illustrates the prevailing national mood. Although a Democrat, she’s strongly opposed to Obama’s signature legislation. But she thinks “Obamacare” is here to stay.

“I like the idea that if you have a pre-existing condition you can’t be turned down, but I don’t like the idea that if you don’t have health insurance you’ll be fined,” said Sliger.

The poll was taken before Thursday’s announcement by the White House that new health insurance markets have surpassed the goal of 6 million sign-ups, so it did not register any of the potential impact of that news on public opinion. Open enrollment season began with a dysfunctional HealthCare.gov website last Oct. 1 but will end Monday on what looks to be a more positive note.

Impressions of the health care roll-out while low, have improved slightly.

‘ Pentagon Stalls Closure of GITMO ‘

#AceWorldNews – WASHINGTON – September 30 – The transfer of prisoners out of Guantanamo Bay has ground to a halt amid a slow Pentagon approval process.

This has caused deep frustration within the administration and raising doubts that President Barack Obama will be able to fulfil his campaign promise to close the offshore prison for terrorism suspects AP reported today.

A detainee sent back to his native Algeria in March is the only prisoner to have moved out this year, beyond the controversial exchange of five Taliban members in return for long-held captive U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl.

' Obama Statement on Law Enforcement in Aftermath of Ferguson '

#AceNewsServices – WASHINGTON – September 28 – The widespread mistrust of law enforcement that was exposed by the fatal police shooting of an unarmed black man in Missouri exists in too many other communities and is having a corrosive effect on the nation, particularly on its children, President Barack Obama says.

He blames the feeling of wariness on persistent racial disparities in the administration of justice.

Obama said these misgivings only serve to harm communities that are most in need of effective law enforcement.

“It makes folks who are victimized by crime and need strong policing reluctant to go to the police because they may not trust them,” he said Saturday night in an address at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s annual awards dinner.

“And the worst part of it is it scars the hearts of our children,” Obama said, adding that it leads some youngsters to unnecessarily fear people who do not look like them and others to constantly feel under suspicion no matter what they do.

“That is not the society we want,” he said. “It’s not the society that our children deserve.”

IRAQ WAR: ‘ Taking Steps Toward Boots on the Ground and Violating Pledges to American’s

#AceWorldNews – UNITED STATES (Washington) – September 20 –President Barack Obama’s military campaign against Islamic State group extremists has already crept beyond the narrow parameters he first outlined three months ago AP reported today.

But military experts both inside and outside of the administration argue that even more may be needed for the mission to succeed, including embedding U.S. ground troops with Iraqi security forces who are on the front line of the fight against the violent militants.

Taking that step could put Obama dangerously close to violating his pledges to keep Americans out of combat in Iraq.

WASHINGTON: ‘ Wary House Lawmakers on Track to Approve President Obama Arming Rebels ‘

#AceWorldNews – UNITED STATES (Washington) – September 17 – Wary House lawmakers are on track to give President Barack Obama authority to order U.S. military training and arms for moderate rebels confronting the growing danger of Islamic State militants Associated Press reported.

Obama was likely to get his wish in a vote Wednesday despite worries from hawks in both parties that his response was insufficient to battle terrorists who have overrun wide swaths of Iraq and Syria.

House Republicans emerged from a Tuesday morning conference meeting predicting a proposal to arm Syrian rebels to fight the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) will pass — but only if Democrats provide significant support The Hill reported.

House Armed Services Committee Chairman Buck McKeon (R-Calif.) said he was not sure his amendment granting President Obama’s request for congressional authority would be backed by a majority of Republican lawmakers, many of whom expressed deep reservations about the plan.

WASHINGTON: ‘ US Military Assigned to West Africa to Respond to Ebola Crisis ‘

#AceWorldNews UNITED STATES (Washington) September 16 The Obama administration is ramping up its response to West Africa’s Ebola crisis, preparing to assign 3,000 U.S. military personnel to the afflicted region to supply medical and logistical support to overwhelmed local health care systems and to boost the number of beds needed to isolate and treat victims of the epidemic.

President Barack Obama planned to announce the stepped-up effort Tuesday during a visit to the federal Centres for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta amid alarm that the outbreak could spread and that the deadly virus could mutate into a more easily transmitted disease.

UNITED STATES: ' New Joint Watershed Restoration Agreement Piloted As Part of Presidents Obama's Climate Action Plan'

#AceNewsServices (Exclusive) – UNITED STATES (Arizona) City of Payson – August 30 – A Press-Release on August 27 confirms that Interior Deputy Secretary Michael Connor and Agriculture Under Secretary for Natural Resources and Environment Robert Bonnie joined state, local and private partners today to mark the signing of a new joint watershed restoration agreement for C.C. Cragin Reservoir in Central Arizona.

The agreement is a pilot project of the Western Watershed Enhancement Partnership, aimed at reducing the risks of costly wildfires and their impact on western watersheds as part of President Obama’s Climate Action Plan.

"This agreement reflects our commitment to work with state and local partners in restoring and improving the health and resiliency of priority watersheds in Central Arizona," Deputy Secretary Connor said. "Restoration activities and proactive planning help minimize the impacts of the hotter and longer wildfire seasons on western reservoirs and other critical infrastructure, and help water managers avoid costly repairs in the future."

"USDA and the Obama Administration are working with partners across the country to restore the health of our forests and watersheds across public and private lands," Under Secretary Bonnie said. "Given longer fire seasons and increased fuel loads in our forests, increasing the pace and scale of forest restoration is critical to reducing the threat of catastrophic fire and protecting watersheds."

This new partnership joins the Salt River Project, National Forest Foundation, City of Payson, Bureau of Reclamation and the U.S. Forest Service in collaborative efforts to assess and implement treatments that protect the municipal water supply and minimize wildfire and flood risks. Potential projects include forest thinning, prescribed fire, tree planting, riparian vegetation improvements, stream, spring and channel restoration and other forest and watershed health improvements on National Forest System lands within the area.

The partners will develop a collaborative five-year action plan specifying the treatment zones and planned restoration and protection activities, as well as accomplishment goals and funding commitments.

Deputy Secretary Connor and Under Secretary Bonnie were joined by Payson Mayor Kenny Evans, Salt River Project Deputy General Manager John Sullivan and National Forest Foundation’s Colorado Program Director Marcus Selig.

Since 2002, three large fires have threatened the watersheds that contribute to C.C. Cragin Reservoir, burning more than 10,000 acres. The location of these fires was of great concern due to their potential to quickly progress through a large part of the watersheds. There have been several small fires near C.C. Cragin Reservoir itself, including one last year that burned 40 acres and one this year burning close to ten acres.

The Western Watershed Enhancement Partnership was formally established in July 2013 by Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell and Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack. Its goal is to restore forest and watershed health, and proactively plan for post-wildfire responses to protect municipal and agricultural water supplies. Flows of sediment, debris and ash into streams and rivers after wildfires can damage water quality and often require costly emergency measures at treatment plants to repair damage to habitat, reservoirs and facilities. Restoration projects aim to maintain reliable, clean and sustainable water supplies in the West by reducing wildfire risk through forest thinning, prescribed fire and other forest health treatments, minimizing post-wildfire erosion and sedimentation and restoring areas that are currently recovering from past wildfires through tree planting and other habitat improvements.

Interior and USDA are working with state and local stakeholders on five additional pilots across the West, including:

  • Colorado-Big Thompson Headwaters in Colorado;
  • Boise River Reservoir Partnership in Idaho;
  • Reclamation Mid-Pacific Region in California;
  • Yakima Basin in Washington State; and
  • Hungry Horse Reservoir/Flathead River in Montana.

C.C. Cragin Dam and Reservoir, part of the Salt River Project since 2005 when the Arizona Water Settlements Act was implemented, is part of a system of reservoirs in two watersheds encompassing 8.4 million acres. It impounds water from East Clear Creek, a tributary to Clear Creek and the Little Colorado River. Virtually all of the land surrounding the reservoir is owned by the USDA Forest Service. The Reservoir and Dam are owned by Reclamation but operated by the Salt River Project.

IRAQ: ' President Obama States he Has Authorized Air-Strikes Following Pentagon's Earlier Denial That They Had Struck Islamic States Targets '

#AceBreakingNews – IRAQ – August 08 – REUTERS- U.S. President Barack Obama said on Thursday he had authorized "targeted" U.S. air-strikes against Islamic State fighters in northern Iraq and military air-drops of humanitarian supplies to besieged religious minorities there to prevent a "potential act of genocide."

Speaking after meetings with his national security team, Obama – in his most significant response to the Iraq crisis – said he approved limited use of American air power to protect American personnel if Islamic State militants advance toward the Kurdish capital Arbil where they are based.

"We can act carefully and responsibly to prevent a potential act of genocide," Obamas told reporters at the White House. "I’ve therefore authorized targeted airstrikes if necessary."

The airstrikes would be the first carried out by the U.S. military in Iraq since the withdrawal of its forces at the end of 2011, but Obama insisted he would not commit any ground forces and had no intention of letting the United States get dragged back into a war there.

Earlier on Thursday, the Pentagon denied reports that the U.S. military had struck Islamic State targets in Iraq’s north.

Earlier Thursday the New York Times reported, citing Kurdish and Iraqi sources, that military forces conducted airstrikes in northern Iraq against militants who had trapped religious minorities in Kurdish areas. The Times initially reported the strikes were conducted by the United States, but later suggested the strikes might have been conducted by U.S. allies like Turkey or Iraq.

The McClatchy newspaper chain also reported jet aircraft attacking Islamic militant positions in the Kurdish region, citing a local source, though the report said it was not clear who was conducting the strike.

The Pentagon’s press secretary, via his verified Twitter account, denied any U.S. airstrikes had taken place.

The White House denied reports that President Obama was about to make a statement, saying it was a “very fluid situation.”

‘ Barack Obama Calls for US to Offer Paid Maternity Leave ‘

#AceWorldNews – UNITED STATES (Washington) – June 24 – President Barack Obama called for the US to offer paid maternity leave. “Many women can’t even get a paid day off to give birth — now that’s a pretty low bar,” Obama said at the White House Summit on Working Families.

“There is only one developed country in the world that does not offer paid maternity leave, and that is us.

And that is not the list you want to be on — on your lonesome.

It’s time to change that.” Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) has introduced legislation that would provide up to 12 weeks of paid leave through a Social Security Administration fund.

Employees and employers would contribute 0.2 percent of their wages to pay for the fund. ”We’re talking about 2 cents of every $10,” she said in an interview at the summit, the Associated Press reported.

Potential 2016 GOP presidential candidate Sen. Marco Rubio, likely reflecting the opinion among many in his party, rejected the idea outright.

“Telling federal agencies to do what they’re already supposed to do and endorsing partisan legislation that will never pass is not the sort of bold, innovative leadership we need,” said Rubio.

Obama talks about Scottish Independence, but can’t help his own people !

Really annoyed at this one today, Obama met with UK leader and Eton boy David Cameron and Obama HAD to have a say on Scottish Independence. Well I ask, did he? I mean this was a PR stunt of the highest order. Should Scotland leave the UK, there will still be England, Wales and Northern Ireland in the Union, in reality American would have a new friend in a free Scotland

Coming from a man who stands back and watches hundreds of his own people die every day due to no Health Care and spends more on Islam than he does on his own people, I think this is a slap in the face to each and every American who actually cares about Scotland leaving the Union/UK, and I am guessing these numbers would be very low. For Obama to stand and say these things slaps in the face of Scotland also. Who is he to tell us what we can or can’t vote. I think speaking to many Scottish people this evening many are very annoyed at Obama having the cheek to even remark on this issue and his remarks were so far from the truth it is untrue, many in the World will lap his words up but up here in Scotland we all laughed and shook our heads at a disaster of a PR by David Cameron

What gives Obama the right to dictate to anyone. He can’t run his own Country properly. If I could send one message to Obama it would be “No matter what happens Mr President, you will still have the UK as a partner” He had no right to stick his mouth into any debate. I am not angry at this I am fuming! I am mad! This was David Cameron asking Obama to help his cause for a NO Vote on September 18th.

Thankfully the people of Scotland are FAR more clever than this propaganda and have as I though we would laughed this stupid stunt off. It was rediculous, ill timed, not right and since when does Obama have a say on these matter? Again, NO MATTER the outcome, the UK will still exist. This is media crap and I urge every Scottish person to ignore it and laugh at it for exactly what it is. A stupid remark rehearsed in advance on a people who have a bigger IQ than Obama does. Scotland won’t fall for this propaganda rubbish

Hillary Clinton talks about Benghazi

Has she just blew her chance at Commander in chief?

In a new memoir, Hillary Clinton is expected to offer her most detailed account yet of the deadly 2012 attack on Americans in Benghazi, Libya, which could become nettlesome should she run for president in two years’ time. The former secretary of state rebukes Republicans over the issue in her book, Hard Choices, part of which was leaked to a political website on Friday. She says she will “not be part of a political slugfest on the backs of dead Americans”, according to Politico, which obtained the chapter, entitled Benghazi: Under Attack. “Those who exploit this tragedy over and over as a political tool minimize the sacrifice of those who served our country,” she writes.

Bill and Chelsea Clinton have stayed tight-lipped on ‘Hillary 2016’

Ms Clinton also says an anti-Islamic video that triggered protests in Egypt was “indeed a factor” in the Benghazi incident. Conservatives accuse the Obama administration of misleading the public and Congress about the nature of the attack to avoid political backlash in the weeks before the presidential election. The September 11 2012 assault on the US diplomatic compound killed four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens. Ms Clinton’s memoir will be published on June 10. A week later she will sit down for an interview with Fox News, which has extensively covered the Benghazi affair, it was announced on Thursday.

Hillary Clinton testified on Benghazi in January last year

Meanwhile, speculation has been swirling among Washington DC’s political classes over a private lunch between President Barack Obama and Ms Clinton on Thursday. The White House confirmed the two – rivals for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination – had dined alone. But aides on both sides refused to say what they talked about. Anticipating Ms Clinton’s forthcoming memoir, the Republican National Committee said in a statement on Friday: “The more Americans learn about hard choices like these, the less likely they will be to choose Clinton in any future election. A book isn’t going to change that.” Earlier this month, the House Republican leadership controversially launched a select committee to investigate Benghazi. Ms Clinton has already taken responsibility for the assault, calling it the darkest hour of her career.

` Taliban Insurgents Denounce US Plans to Keep Troops in Afghanistan Threatening All Out War ‘

#AceNewsServices – AFGHANISTAN – May 28 – Taliban insurgents on Wednesday denounced US plans to keep troops in Afghanistan until the end of 2016, threatening to wage war against the “occupation” until the very last foreign soldier pulls out.

Outlining the US strategy to end America’s longest war, 15 years after the September 11 attacks, President Barack Obama confirmed Tuesday that the 32,000-strong US deployment in Afghanistan would be scaled back to around 9,800 by the start of 2015.

Those forces would be halved by the end of 2015 before eventually being reduced to a normal embassy presence with a security assistance component by the end of 2016.

But underscoring the instability still roiling Afghanistan, two Americans were slightly wounded in an attack on a US consulate vehicle in Afghanistan’s western city of Herat on Wednesday.

An unidentified gunman on a motorcycle fired a rocket-propelled grenade at the US vehicle in Herat, five days after insurgents attacked an Indian diplomatic mission in the same city near the border with Iran.

Taliban insurgents responded to Obama’s announcement by ruling out an end to fighting until a complete withdrawal of US forces had taken place — a grim indicator that Afghanistan’s long, bloody war is far from over.

“Now that Obama has announced that he will keep around 10,000 troops until the end of 2016 and continue their occupation, Afghanistan Islamic Emirate condemns it and considers it a violation of sovereignty, religion and human rights,” said a Taliban statement.

Obama Proposes $5bn Anti-Terrorism Fund

Obama: “Not every problem is a nail”

With the American Dollar seemingly on it’s knee’s, where does this “Anti Terror” money come from? Has the Federal Reserve just printed more invisible money for Obama? Because the way I see it, the Country has no money for it’s people, yet has $5 Bn to fund incursions into foreign soil

President Barack Obama has unveiled a $5bn (£3bn) fund to help countries tackle extremists, in a speech outlining his foreign policy doctrine. Speaking at the Military Academy in West Point, New York, the US President said the planned US withdrawal from Afghanistan would enable it to focus on emerging threats from the Middle East and North Africa to South Asia. He said he would ask Congress to support the establishment of a Counterterrorism Partnerships Fund to tackle such threats. Standing by his decision not to intervene militarily in Syria’s civil war, Mr Obama said he aimed to bolster US support for moderate Syrian rebels.

Mr Obama spoke during a graduation ceremony at West Point

“I will work with Congress to ramp up support for those in the Syrian opposition who offer the best alternative to terrorists and a brutal dictator,” he said. Mr Obama laid out his argument that modern foreign policy should be rooted in diplomacy rather than intervention. “Here’s my bottom line,” he said, “America must always lead on the world stage. “If we don’t, no one else will. The military that you have joined is, and always will be, the backbone of that leadership. “But US military action cannot be the only – or even primary – component of our leadership in every instance. “Just because we have the best hammer does not mean that every problem is a nail.”

Mr Obama defended his approach to the Ukraine crisis

He said that the main threat to the US remains extremists. “For the foreseeable future,” he said, “the most direct threat to America at home and abroad remains terrorism. “But a strategy that involves invading every country that harbours terrorist networks is naive and unsustainable.”

He also continued to defend his use of drone strikes in countries like Yemen and Somalia, but called for increased transparency on such covert operations. Republicans have criticised Mr Obama’s plan, announced on Tuesday, for the US to keep 9,800 troops in Afghanistan after the war there formally ends later this year. But he said on Wednesday the US had made much headway in Afghanistan against al Qaeda, and “sustaining this progress depends on the ability of Afghans to do the job”. He also defended his approach to the Ukraine crisis, of seeking to build a multilateral consensus against Russia.

“This isn’t the Cold War,” he said. “Our ability to shape world opinion helped isolate Russia right away. Because of American leadership, the world immediately condemned Russian actions.” Mr Obama also said he would continue to press for the closure of Guantanamo Bay, and place new restrictions how America gathers intelligence, amid the fallout from the NSA leaks. “I believe in American exceptionalism with every fibre of my being,” said the President. “But what makes us exceptional is not our ability to flout international norms and the rule of law.”

Sky News’ Hannah Thomas-Peter, who is at the West Point speech, said it outlined how the President views the future of US foreign policy in the aftermath of conflicts in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Critics have said America has lost face and influence in its dealings with Syria’s leader Bashar al Assad, who remains in power despite crossing Mr Obama’s self-proclaimed “red line” and using chemical weapons on his own people. Opponents are also unhappy about Russian intervention in Ukraine, and China’s threats to its neighbours in the South China Sea. Republicans in particular, feel that under Mr Obama’s stewardship America is becoming increasingly disengaged and is losing the capacity to influence global events.

` Two Americans Injured in an Attack on US Consulate Vehicle in Herat ‘

#AceWorldNews – AFGHANISTAN – May 28 – Two Americans have been injured in an attack on a US consulate vehicle in western Herat province in Afghanistan, the US embassy said on Wednesday.

Both were receiving treatment at a Spanish hospital in the province, Reuters reported. “The US government is working closely with Afghan authorities to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice,” the statement said.

The attack comes a day after President Barack Obama announced that he plans for almost 10,000 American troops to remain in the country in 2015 if the Afghan government signs a security agreement.
Washington and its NATO allies will formally halt combat operations in Afghanistan at the end of this year.

` Barack Obama is Seeking to Retain Nine Thousand Eight Hundred Troops in Afghanistan ‘

#AceWorldNews – WASHINGTON – May 27 – President Barack Obama is seeking to keep 9,800 US troops in Afghanistan after the US ends its combat mission in the country at the end of this year.

The US plan calls for troop levels to be reduced from its current force of 32,000 by the end of 2014.

The remaining US military presence would train Afghan forces and support counter-terrorism operations.

These numbers would be contingent on the Afghan government signing a bilateral security agreement.

While current Afghan President Hamid Karzai has refused to sign such an agreement, the Obama administration appears to be confident either of the two candidates seeking to replace him would do so.
