#AceWorldNews – ISRAEL – May 11 – Israel’s army declared Sunday a closed military zone around the Quneitra crossing, part of the Israeli occupied Golan Heights, in case battles fought on the Syrian side spill over the ceasefire line.
Rebels in southern Syria have set up the so-called Southern Front against President Assad’s Syrian army and have claimed some success, particularly in the Quneitra area. Israel seized a 1,200 square kilometre area of the Golan Heights plateau during the 1967 Six-Day War.
Since the Syrian civil war erupted in 2011, the Golan Heights have been tense, with occasional stray projectiles hitting the Israeli side, sometimes prompting an armed response.
