(BEIJING, China.) #Coronavirus Report: Promising candidate vaccines containing adjuvants provided by US & UK firms have delivered positive trial data, demonstrating their safety and efficacy against #COVID19 bio pharmaceuticals firm Clover claimed claimed from human trials on Friday as Russia rolls out Sputnik V next week #AceHealthDesk report

#AceHealthReport – Dec.04: On Friday, China’s biopharmaceuticals firm Clover claimed data from human trials showed their two candidate vaccines triggered a “strong immune response” against #Covid19 : Based on the positive Phase 1 results reported and the unprecedented need for COVID-19 vaccines, Clover and its partners are confident to enter late-stage clinical development for both adjuvanted vaccines,” the company said: The vaccines use adjuvants – that is, ingredients that can boost immune response – from UK pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and US firm Dynavax”

Clover says the vaccines did not trigger any serious adverse reactions in the 150 adults and senior citizens who took part in the trial: The candidate vaccine that used the adjuvant provided by GSK will begin global phase-two/three trials in December, funded by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI)…….This vaccine variant induced neutralizing antibody production in all adult and elderly participants.

Clover also announced that the data shows both vaccines can be stored at temperatures of 2C to 8C for at least six months: This is considered a considerable plus, as both Pfizer and Moderna’s vaccines required subzero storage and substantial cold-chain infrastructure: ” Combined with our ability to potentially produce more than one billion doses of antigen annually and the stability of our vaccines under standard refrigeration conditions, our adjuvanted COVID-19 S-Trimer vaccines are positioned to be well suited for worldwide distribution,” said Chief Executive Officer of Clover Biopharmaceuticals Joshua Liang.

(NIGERIA) JUST IN: The death toll in a suspected Boko #Haram attack on farmers in the northeast on Saturday has reached at least 110, some have been beheaded acordsing to a UN humanitarian coordinator in the country said, urging the perpetrators to be brought to justice #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – Nov.29: At least 110 civilians were ruthlessly killed and many others wounded in this attack,” Edward Kallon, the UN’s humanitarian coordinator in Nigeria, said in a statement: The incident was the “most violent direct attack against innocent civilians” in the country in 2020, Kallon pointed out: The perpetrators of this “heinous and senseless” act must be brought to justice, he added:

The militants ambushed the farmers as they went into the rice fields to gather the harvest on Saturday. The bodies of 43 farmers have been recovered after the massacre, with around 30 of them being beheaded. The security forces have been searching the area for those missing: No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but the tactics of the insurgents resembled those used by Islamic State-affiliate Boko Haram, which is responsible for thousands of civilian deaths in Nigeria over the past decade.

The burial ceremony for the 43 victims took place in Zabarmari village on Sunday, attended by hundreds of mourners and Borno state Governor Babagana Zulum: The bodies were wrapped in white burial shrouds and placed on wooden pallets as the priests led prayers for those killed: During his speech, Zulum called upon the federal government to recruit more security personnel to protect the local farmers, who found themselves “in a very difficult situation.”………….” On one side, they stay at home they may be killed by hunger and starvation, on the other, they go out to their farmlands and risk getting killed by the insurgents,” he pointed out:

(PUNE, India.) #Coronavirus Report: An Indian man who helped test a #COVID19 jab based on AstraZeneca’s candidate vaccine has filed suit, claiming that he suffered extreme side effects during his participation in the trial #AceHealthDesk report

#AceHealthDesk – Nov.29: The plaintiff, identified in media reports as a 40-year-old man from Chennai, is suing the Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII) for Rs 5 crore ($676,000 USD). The individual alleges that he suffered serious neurological damage after taking part in the phase three trial of Covishield, the SII’s version of the Covid-19 jab being developed by AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford. The man was purportedly told that the vaccine was safe and chose to participate in the program in “the spirit of public service.” …..The lawsuit also demands that SII, AstraZeneca and the Oxford Vaccine Group immediately halt vaccine trials, in which some 1,600 volunteers are currently enrolled:

FILE PHOTO.

‘More information needed’: WHO says it needs more than just press release to assess AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine

Ten days after receiving the shot, the man complained of a pounding headache and experienced vomiting, his wife told local media. He was bedridden and acting abnormally before being transferred to the emergency ward of the Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Hospital. A review by the hospital concluded that the medical problems were not linked to the vaccine, and a medical official cited by Indian media claimed that the patient was “now alright” and had not incurred any expenses stemming from the health episode: The man’s discharge summary said he requested to leave the hospital and was recovering from “acute encephalopathy”. He also suffered from deficiencies of Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D, and was suspected of having a “connective tissue disorder.”………………..However, the man’s wife insists that he has not fully recovered and is unable to work as before:

In September, SII briefly paused its clinical trials of Covishield after a recipient of the AstraZeneca jab showed adverse symptoms:

India has faced criticism for not being more transparent about its Covid-19 vaccine trials. According to Science Magazine, SII is not using the same phase three testing protocol implemented by AstraZeneca, and has also declined to make its guidelines public.

(MINNEAPOLIS) #Coronavirus MDH Report: Health Officials confirm that there were another 101 new #COVID19 deaths setting a new record on Wednesday according to WCCO #AceHealthDesk report

#AceHealthReport – Nov.27: Minnesota health officials on Friday reported that there were 5,704 additional COVID-19 cases and 101 more deaths as of Wednesday. It’s the first time the state has breached 100 in newly reported deaths: The data is as of Wednesday due to observation of the Thanksgiving holiday. The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) will also be releasing Thursday’s and Friday’s data collectively on Saturday: Therefore, newly reported case and death numbers may appear greater than normal on Saturday:

WCCO | CBS Minnesota https://ift.tt/3q1328x

The new data from Wednesday brings the state’s death toll to 3,476, with 2,355 being in long-term care: Sixty-five of the 101 additional deaths involved someone at a long-term care or group home situation:

Minnesota Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm issued a statement following the update, calling it a sad development, but not surprising: ” For weeks we have been sounding the alarm about the dramatic growth in COVID-19 cases. We know that more cases leads to more hospitalizations and deaths, and today’s news reinforces that tragic pattern,” she said: Malcolm says every public activity is now more risky than it was even a few weeks ago, so the best way to slow the spread is to stay home: ” This is painful and frustrating, but every day we get closer to having safe and effective vaccines that should help resolve this crisis. We anxiously await that day, and until then we all must do our part to ensure that all of our loved ones, friends and neighbors can celebrate those days with us,” she said.

#COVID19 Additionl Data:

Total cases in the state is now at 295,001. Nearly 22,000 cases have been found amongst health care workers; 244,982 people who have contracted the virus no longer need to quarantine: The state’s health system continues to strain with more COVID-19 patients being admitted for treatment.

According to MDH data as recent as Nov. 24, there are 387 patients with the virus needing ICU beds and an additional 1,454 patients needing non-ICU beds. That’s a total of 1,812 patients currently needing treatment for the virus in the state. Both ICU and non-ICU bed use for COVID-19 patients continues to reach levels not seen before in the state, and have increased since mid-September. There were about 271 patients being treated for COVID-19 on Sept. 15:

As for testing, over 55,000 tests were completed on Wednesday: A total of 2.4 million people have been tested in the state so far:

(WASHINGTON) #Biden Report: A Joe Biden White House could be a boon for union activists as the Democrat seeks to implement a controversial California labor law nationwide according to Washington Free Beacon #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – Nov.27: House Democrats passed the PRO Act in February 2020 in a mostly party-line vote. The bill empowers the National Labor Relations Board to fine employers for violations of employee rights and allows the classification of independent contractors as employees: It also weakens right-to-work laws in more than half of the states in the country:

Washington Free Beacon https://ift.tt/33EozdJ

Michael Lotito, co-chair of Littler’s Workplace Policy Institute (WPI), said that the adoption of the PRO Act on the federal level would be one of the most dramatic labor reforms in American history: ” It’s like putting 100 Christmases together as a gift to labor,” he told the Washington Free Beacon in a phone interview:

The bill is similar to California’s Assembly Bill 5, passed last year: AB5 created a three-step test to limit the employers’ ability to classify their employees as independent contractors. A report from Littler’s Workplace Policy Institute suggests a Biden administration could adopt similarly pro-union standards in 2021:

” The PRO Act is viewed by some as an attempt to restore organized labor’s role in Democratic Party policymaking,” the WPI report states: ” The act’s future depends on the two Senate races in Georgia that will determine control of the Senate.”

” If Republicans maintain control, the PRO Act will almost certainly fail to advance,” the report continues. “In that case, the Biden administration would have to shape labor policy by other means, including by flipping the National Labor Relations Board majority and appointing a Democratic general counsel during President-elect Biden’s first year in office.”

On his campaign website, Biden called for implementing California’s employer-classification standards to target the gig economy and other industries that rely on independent contractors: Federal labor laws would be more difficult to challenge in court than state labor laws, Lotito said:

” On a nationwide scale, the ABC test, or the situation in California, then becomes the law of the land in all 50 states,” he said. “The independent contractor model is going to be destroyed as a result of the ABC test.”

The adoption of the principles of AB5 on a national scale in the PRO Act would have widespread impact on how employees are classified: The California law is already being challenged in state and federal courts by small-business owners and franchise operations. Kerry Jackson, a California Studies fellow at the Pacific Research Institute, said the policies have already hindered the Golden State’s economy and could do even more damage if applied federally: ” AB5 has already wrecked the personal finances of many in California and stripped workers of their freedom,” Jackson told the Free Beacon. “It’s also a threat to any business that relies on independent contractors to be profitable. On a national basis, the damage would be even worse.”

A Biden presidency would be able to accomplish reforms through executive orders: Biden, who did not respond to request for comment, stressed his commitment to supporting worker unionization by saying he would impose “a personal price” on business leaders who resist attempts to unionise: ” I’m going to hold company executives personally liable for interfering with workers who are attempting to unionize. It’s not enough just to have their corporations pay a fine. If they’re part of the problem, they are going to pay a personal price,” he said:

Labor unions donated more than $1 million to Biden’s presidential campaign, and 87 percent of unions’ total contributions went to Democratic candidates or causes: Jackson said that Biden does not need control of Congress to enact regulations that will harm employers: I imagine he’ll use executive orders as much as the courts will allow him to,” Jackson said. “His boss of eight years was not shy about using his pen and phone to make rules he couldn’t legitimately get out of Congress.”

(NEW DELHI, India.) JUST IN: Some 5,000 farmers were allowed to enter the capital on Friday for a peaceful protest under police escort as tensions remained high, with clashes between demonstrators and police continuing elsewhere in India according to RT News #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – Nov.27: New Delhi police ask to convert stadiums into prisons as Indian capital grapples with thousands-strong farmer protest: Farmers across India are taking part in demonstrations against agricultural reforms: They fear that new rules of sale, storage and pricing — first introduced in September – will strip small growers of bargaining power and leave them at the mercy of big business: The ‘Dilli Chalo’ (On to Delhi) march was meant to bring the protest to the capital, but it was met with barricades, tear gas and water cannon: Police say the mass demonstrations pose a serious health risk due to the #Covid19 #pandemic

( WASHINGTON) #Coronavirus Report: The FDA has authorized use of the Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc. drug to try to prevent hospitalisation and worsening disease from developing in patients with mild-to-moderate symptoms of #COVID19 #AceHealthDesk report

#AceHealthReport – Nov.22: The drug is given as a one-time treatment through an IV. The FDA allowed its use in adults and children 12 and over who weigh at least 88 pounds (40 kilograms) and who are at high risk of severe illness from COVID-19 because of age or certain other medical conditions: Emergency authorization allows use of the drug to start while studies are continuing to establish safety and effectiveness. Early results suggest the drug may reduce COVID-19-related hospitalization or emergency room visits in patients at high risk for disease progression, the FDA said:

#Coronavirus Report: Update: FDA Authorizes Monoclonal Antibodies (Regeneron) for Treatment of #COVID19 cases with mild to moderate symptoms.

Regeneron said that initial doses will be made available to roughly 300,000 patients through a federal government allocation program: Those patients will not be charged for the drug but may have to pay part of the cost of giving the IV: Initial supplies will likely be vastly outstripped by demand as the U.S. has surged past 12 million reported cases, with the country facing what health experts say will be a dark winter due to uncontrolled spread of the virus:

Antibodies are proteins the body makes to target and help eliminate viruses, but it can take weeks for the best ones to form after an infection occurs. The drugs are concentrated versions of ones that proved best able to do this in lab and animal tests, and in theory help the body start to fight the virus right away: The Regeneron drug is a combo of two antibodies to enhance the chances it will prove effective. Earlier this month, the FDA gave emergency authorization to a single-antibody drug from Eli Lilly that also is still being studied: There’s no way to know whether the Regeneron drug helped Trump recover; he received a host of treatments and most COVID-19 patients recover on their own.

FDA regulators authorized the Regeneron drug using their emergency powers to quickly speed the availability of experimental drugs and other medical products during public health crises: In normal times the FDA requires “substantial evidence” to show that a drug is safe and effective, usually through one or more large, rigorously controlled patient studies. But during public health emergencies the agency can lower those standards and require only that an experimental treatment’s potential benefits outweigh its risks:

The emergency authorization functions like a temporary approval for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic. To win full approval, Regeneron will have to submit additional research to fully define the drug’s safety and benefit for patients: The White House cast the decision as a victory for Trump’s efforts “to deliver cutting-edge treatments with highly promising results to protect the health and safety of the most vulnerable Americans,” according to a statement from spokesman Michael Bars.

(BERLIN, Germany.) JUST IN: Friday marks 75th Anniversay of start of Nuremberg Trials Antifa Activists rallied in capital to decry #COVID19 sceptics’ tactics as counter-protest comes amid demonstrations over a controversial law that gives the government more powers to fight the virus #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – Nov.21: Hundreds of Antifa members marched through the German capital on Friday night, holding banners denouncing “Corona deniers and Nazi pigs” as they chanted slogans. The column of left-wing protesters was closely supervised by police, and no violence was reported during the event:

Demonstrators are sprayed with a water cannon during a protest against the government's coronavirus disease (COVID-19) restrictions, next to the Brandenburger Gate in Berlin, November, 18, 2020.

As the German lockdown movement continues to grow, wild claims of Nazi-era laws and Anne Frank comparisons undermine its efforts

While the demonstrators expressed their anger with “conspiracy believers,” protests of those furious at the government didn’t stop. Critics are decrying a new Infection Protection Law, which gives authorities the ability to swiftly impose lockdowns and other restrictive measures: Some are even comparing the law to Nazi-era dictates that enabled Adolf Hitler’s rise to power:

https://cdnv.rt.com/files/2020.11/5fb8d0012030275ed502bf3a.mp4

On Friday, which marked the 75th anniversary of the start of the Nazi war crime tribunals, a group of demonstrators gathered at the Nuremberg Trials Memorial to denounce the new law; Footage from RT’s Ruptly video agency shows protesters gathered around candles shaped like a peace sign, as some carried placards warning of the dangers of government overreach. The demonstration coincided with a ceremony inside the court which was attended by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier;

Earlier this week thousands of protesters against the Infection Protection Law faced off with police in Berlin. Water cannon were deployed to disperse the crowd, and over 100 people were detained.

This Saturday, both anti-lockdown demonstrations and counter-protests are planned in the city of Leipzig, in Eastern Germany: Germany isn’t the only country to see pushback against its coronavirus measures. Anti-lockdown protests have been held regularly in London, while similar demonstrations have been seen in Italy and other parts of Europe.

#AceNewsReport – Nov.21: Footage from RT’s Ruptly video agency shows total mayhem at the ‘Carrefour’ food store, as protesters ransacked the shop with seeming impunity: Products are seen littering the aisles as alarms are heard ringing in the background. Demonstrators also pelted the store with rocks, shattering its windows, and set a fire inside: The blaze was later extinguished:

The unrest was part of nationwide protests sparked by the death of a black man at a Carrefour store in the southern Brazilian city of Porto Alegre: The incident occurred on the eve of Black Consciousness Day in Brazil:

Footage of the incident shows two security guards restraining and beating the victim, identified as 40-year-old Joao Alberto Silveira Freitas. A store employee reportedly altered the guards, claiming that Freitas threatened to attack her, local media reported. It has not yet been determined what caused Freitas’ death, but some reports have cited preliminary medical analysis pointing to asphyxiation:

(USA) E-scooters Report: As number of crashes have risen as people emerge out of ‘ lockdown ‘ since the rise in sales has prompted ‘ environmentally friendly travel ‘ a Swedish company will integrated Luna’s computer vision system into 50 of its e-scooters #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – Nov.20: Last year, electric scooters were booming in big cities across the United States and other countries as urbanites embraced a relatively novel way of getting around town. The rentable, battery-boosted rides also brought a rising number of pedestrian-involved crashes as some riders illegally zipped down sidewalks and darted around traffic before the craze was interrupted by the #pandemic

Met provides update on latest advice for using e-scooters in London:

Downtowns became ghost towns when businesses told workers to stay home, and e-scooter business slowed, dropping as much as 70 percent: As people reemerge from shutdowns, wary of congested trains and buses, the micromobility industry may enjoy a post-pandemic renaissance, analysts say. People are buying more of the two-wheelers in some markets. China-based Niu saw sales rise sales 6.3 percent internationally as cities such as Boston, New York and Minneapolis expanded bike lanes to encourage social distancing, setting the framework for a potential e-scooter comeback:

By the time the novel coronavirus is in the rearview mirror, riders could be encountering a new type of e-scooter, one that picks up safety tools from modern cars. Last week, micromobility companies Luna and Voi Technology came together to kick off a test fleet of e-scooters with pedestrian detection: The test scooters are deployed in Northampton, England. Luna, a Dublin-based start-up, developed the system of cameras and sensors that it says will enable the scooters to learn and respond to their environments. Voi, a Swedish e-scooter manufacturer, integrated Luna’s computer vision system into 50 of its e-scooters. […]

The immediate goal for Voi and Luna is to have the devices detect people and objects in a scooter’s path, even if the rider doesn’t see them: The idea is to make scooter users and pedestrians feel safe as they navigate busy streets, which is the most significant issue plaguing cities with legalized shared e-scooters, according to Fredrik Hjelm, CEO of Voi…..

(TAIWAN) JUST IN: President will start work next week to build its fleet of domestically-developed submarines, the presidential office said on Friday, as the island claims it has the right to self-defense against any military threat from China according to RT News #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – Nov.20: The project will include eight submarines and will strengthen the island’s defenses, according to presidential office spokesman Xavier Chang. “This represents a new milestone in the national submarine manufacturing plan,” Chang said. President Tsai Ing-wen will attend a ceremony next Tuesday to kick off the work: The program is part of Tsai’s military modernization and self-sufficiency plan. Taiwan’s Defense Ministry said in September, although without naming China, that the island has the right to self-defense and counterattack amid the “high frequency of harassment and threats from the enemy’s warships and aircraft this year.”……..Taiwan’s military added at the time that it has “clearly defined” the procedures for a first response:

The first submarine from the new fleet, whose estimated cost is US$1.72 billion, may enter service in late 2024: Currently, Taiwan has four submarines, and two of them date back to World War II. No submarine matches those from China’s fleet:

Local media earlier reported that the plan had been postponed, but the Taiwanese Navy said on November 2 that the island will begin building the first vessel this month at a new shipyard: Taiwan’s CSBC Corporation designed a shipyard in Kaohsiung for submarine building, and preparation work started there in May last year, the military said:

US must immediately stop military contact with Taiwan, revoke arms sales plan, China’s defense ministry says

The announcement about the new fleet comes amid heightened tension with China, in particular, over the United States’ sales of advanced weapons to the island and US officials’ visits to Taipei: Taiwan’s government on Friday announced a new visit, this time by the cabinet-level head of the US Environmental Protection Agency, Andrew Wheeler. This would be the third trip by a senior US official since August:

Beijing says its policies toward the island are based on the “one China principle.” Its Foreign Ministry reiterated on Friday it opposes all forms of official interactions between Washington and Taiwan, saying it will make a “necessary” response:
