(LONDON) MET/NCA REPORT: Officers investigating drug supply in Southwark have made 12 arrests following an eight month proactive operation #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – July.22: Officers, assisted by the Met’s Territorial Support Group (TSG) and colleagues from the National Crime Agency (NCA), targeted 16 addresses in south London in raids starting early on Wednesday morning….

#AceDailyNews reports that drug warrants were carried out in Southwark on Wednesday, 21 July, by officers from ‘Southwark Safer Neighbourhoods Team’ and the local CID, along with officers from the Met’s Central Specialist Crime, led an operation focused on the disruption of suspected offenders operating in the Peckham and Old Kent Road areas.

In total, 12 males – aged between 16 and 55 – were arrested on suspicion of offences including supply of Class A drugs, conspiracy to supply Class A drugs and being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs.

Searches at the addresses have concluded and officers have seized a quantity of what is believed to be Class A and Class B drugs, as well as a stash of cash.

The investigation was launched in December 2020 after officers identified a number of people involved in drug supply across Southwark.

The early stages of the investigation revealed to officers that there were a large amount of drugs lines operating in the area. Those believed to be concerned in the supply were subsequently targeted as part of the long running operation.

The operation involved more than 200 officers from the Met, as well as a number of officers from the NCA.

Neighbourhood Inspector Tom Cornish, from the Central South Basic Command Unit, which covers Lambeth and Southwark, said:“This morning’s activity is a direct result of months and months of hard work by officers. The public have played an important role in providing information that has assisted us in the dismantling of these drug lines. Concerns of drug dealing in the area were raised and we have acted to put a stop to this pernicious activity: We know that drug dealing is closely linked to violence we see on the streets of London and cause great misery in our communities. That is exactly why disrupting the supply of drugs is a central part of our work to continue to tackle violence in the capital: By disrupting these drug supply lines, we have hopefully prevented associated violent incidents from occurring in the future.”…….All those arrested have been taken to police stations in south London.

(LONDON) Southwark Crown Court Report: Members of a London-based organised crime group are facing jail time after being convicted of possessing and supplying handguns and ammunition #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – June.04: They were found guilty on Friday 28 May following a seven-day trial at Southwark Crown Court:

National Crime Agency and Metropolitan Police Service surveillance teams watched as Kuts left his home carrying a brown paper bag on 12 October last year, and got into a black BMW 5 Series registered to Mark.

Image showing three convicted men.

Artem Kuts, 39, of the Isle of Dogs, and Oliver Mark, 40, of Stratford, were among four people arrested as part of a National Crime Agency investigation into the supply of firearms.

A third man, Alexander Georgiev (also known as Ernis Piranej), 26, of no fixed abode, who pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing, was seen getting in and out of the same car several times carrying the brown paper bag. He later got into a blue BMW empty handed.

Following this, armed officers descended on the black car and found the bag in the rear passenger footwell. It contained a Russian brand Baikal self-loading pistol and eight rounds of Makarov ammunition. Mark, who was in the driver’s seat, and Kuts, who was in the rear passenger seat, were both arrested for possession of a firearm.

Georgiev was arrested for conspiring to supply a firearm minutes later, as he attempted to flee in the blue car. A fourth person in that car was initially arrested for the same offence but later released. No further action was taken against him.

Police then searched Kuts’ home on Claire Place and found two more guns and 14 rounds of ammunition of the same type, which had been hidden in the garden. They had been packaged heavily and wedged in the corner between the wall and a garden storage unit.

Jacque Beer, NCA Regional Head of Investigations, said: “The seriousness of gun crime cannot be underestimated. Had we not intercepted these weapons they would have been used to kill, threaten and intimidate others.

“Organised criminals like Kuts, Mark and  Georgiev perpetuate violent crime and are only motivated by financial gain.

“The NCA works tirelessly to stop criminals getting their hands on firearms, and to pursue those who use them to unleash violence and fear in our communities.”

All three are due to be sentenced on 17 June at Southwark Crown Court.
