(GRT MANCHESTER) Crown Court Report: A man from Oldham has been jailed for life for ‘fatally stabbing’ his girlfriend to death and leaving her dead in their flat for around three weeks #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – July.28: Daniel Grant Smith (27/10/1979), of Ashton Road, Oldham, pleaded guilty to her murder and was sentenced at Manchester Crown today (27 July). He will serve a minimum of 17-and-a-half years in jail: Miss Bohajczuk, who had a young son, shared a flat with Smith from June 2020.

#AceDailyNews reports that an Oldham man jailed has been jailed for life after stabbing girlfriend to death after officers were called around 12.15pm on Thursday 4 March 2021 to a report of concern for the welfare of a woman at an address on Ashton Road: Emergency services attended and a woman was sadly pronounced dead at the scene, later identified as 29-year-old Imogen Bohajczuk.

In February this year, she reported to police that Smith had assaulted her and left marks on her neck and wrists. She also reported an assault from November 2020.

On 4 March 2021, a friend had become concerned about Miss Bohajczuk as she had not seen or heard from her since 15 February. She entered the flat and found her friend lifeless in bed with multiple stab wounds: A post-mortem later confirmed she had been stabbed three times and that any of them could have killed her. There were also strangulation marks around her neck.

After he had killed her, Smith had attempted to cover his tracks by making calls from Miss Bohajczuk’s mobile phone and used her debit card, including to buy petrol, on several dates in February: Smith became the prime suspect in the investigation and when he was arrested at a friend’s house on 5 March he had the debit card in his possession.

Detective Inspector Andy Naismith, of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “Firstly, our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends who have had to endure such a tragic and traumatic event: This was a brutal and cowardly attack on a defenceless woman and Smith has quite rightly been jailed for life: He gave no thought to the victim before, during or after the attack and attempted to cover his tracks by using the victim’s phone and bank cards: He also left the victim at the address and it is believed before being discovered she had been dead for around three weeks – he did not admit the offence until the full weight of the evidence was put to him: The family are now left to pick up the pieces of their lives and to try and come to terms with the death of a daughter, sister and loving mother – nothing will ever bring them peace.”

(READING) Crown Court Report: Two teenagers have been found guilty of killing 13-year-old Olly Stephens after he was lured to a park and fatally stabbed earlier this year: A 14-year-old girl pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to her part in the killing #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – July.27: When hostilities escalated between Olly and two teenage boys, the latter, along with the 14-year-old-girl, hatched a plan to set him up and attack him. The girl arranged to meet Olly in Bugs Bottom fields in Reading in January, giving the impression she would be there on her own. However, when the unsuspecting teenager arrived, he was ambushed by the two boys, the youngest of whom stabbed him with a knife. All three then fled the scene, leaving Olly to die: In the hours that followed, the three teenagers tried to cover their tracks, deleting incriminating messages and images from their phones. The boys also disposed of clothing they had worn during the attack, throwing it into undergrowth by a railway line….

#AceDailyNews report CPS Report: Two teenagers found guilty of killing 13yr-old Olly Stephens and today after a five-week trial, a jury has convicted both boys, aged 14, of murder and ahead of the trial a 14-year-old girl admitted responsibility for her part in the teenager’s death and pleaded guilty to manslaughter….

26 July 2021

CPS CASE NOTES: Charles White for the Crown Prosecution Service said: “Olly was the victim of a violent and senseless attack, which tragically left him with fatal injuries: Our case was that the three teenagers had planned the attack together and the two boys, armed with a knife, set out to the park intending to cause Olly serious harm: All three disposed of evidence linking them to Olly’s death including shared videos and messages, but their digital footprint proved to be their undoing: The evidence retrieved from their phones and social media accounts played a vital part in the case we presented to the jury, which has today found both boys guilty of Olly’s murder.”

Trial Notes of Compelling evidence

In building the case for trial, the Crown Prosecution Service reviewed material containing thousands of messages from conversations the teenagers had on their phones and social media accounts.

Charles explained: “Whilst CCTV footage and statements from over 160 witnesses placed the defendants at the scene, it was the conversations and admissions in the messages that firmly linked the three teenagers with the attack.”

Many of the messages referenced knives, with one video showing the younger boy brandishing a knife at the older boy a week before the attack. In a voice message to Olly’s ex-girlfriend in the days leading up to the attack, the older boy said: “… I actually hate the kid with a passion, like if I was to see him right now I’ll probably end up killing him or something…” He then added: “I’ll just give him bangs or stab him or something.”

Deleted messages were also retrieved in which the defendants admitted their involvement in Olly’s death. After Olly had been killed, the older boy recorded a voice message saying: “Boy it was me and my boy innit. I started slapping him up and then my boy backed out and then **** shanked him.” And later, when a friend asked: “Did you kill olly”, the younger defendant messaged: “It was the biggest mistake of my life.” When asked why he did it, he stated: “Out of pure anger.”

The prosecution’s case was further strengthened by the forensic evidence obtained from the clothing the boys had thrown away which had the DNA of the younger defendant on it as well as blood from the victim.

In addition to being convicted of murder, the older boy was found guilty of perverting the course of justice in relation to the disposal of clothing worn at the time of Olly Stephens’ death and had already pleaded guilty to a further count of perverting the course of justice in relation to the deleting of apps from his mobile phone. The younger boy had previously pleaded guilty to one count of perverting the course of justice in relation to the disposal of clothing worn at the time of Olly Stephens’ death.

Additional Notes:

  • A 14-year-old boy (DOB 25 February 2007) was convicted of murder. He had previously pleaded guilty to one count of perverting the course of justice in relation to the disposal of clothing worn at the time of Olly Stephens’ death.
  • A 14-year-old boy (DOB 3 October 2006) was convicted of murder. He was also found guilty of perverting the course of justice in relation to the disposal of clothing worn at the time of Olly Stephens’ death. He had previously pleaded guilty to one count of perverting the course of justice in relation to the deleting of apps from his mobile phone.
  • A 14-year-old girl (DOB 29 January 2007) pleaded guilty to manslaughter and one count of perverting the course of justice in relation to the deletion of data from her mobile phone at an earlier hearing.
  • The three teenagers will be sentenced at Reading Crown Court in September.

(LONDON) Old Bailey Court Report: A man has been convicted of a series of random brutal attacks and stabbings #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – July.11: The court heard that shortly after 06:00hrs on 21 April 2020, the victim arrived outside her work address in Islington ready to start her shift: As she walked through the parking area, she heard someone running behind her and felt a bang to the head. She was then stabbed repeatedly, in a sudden and brutal attack: The attacker ran off, taking the weapon with him: The victim was taken to a hospital in central London with four stab wounds to her head, neck and left shoulder. Fortunately she survived.

#AceDailyNews reports a man has been convicted of attempted murder and two other stabbings: Evans Innocent 45 (19.02.1976) of no fixed abode, was found guilty of one count of attempted murder, two counts of wounding with intent and seven counts of possession of an offensive weapon on Tuesday, 6 July. This follows a four-week trial at the Old Bailey and he will appear at the same court for sentencing on Friday, 10 September.

Convicted: Innocent Evans

POLICE CASE NOTES: The following day when police returned to the area to continue examining the scene of the attack for reassurance and safety patrols, they saw the defendant on the street who was armed with four weapons. Officers arrested him at the scene on 22 April 2020: One of the weapons in the defendant’s possession was a black-handled knife with a large blade: The knife was examined by a forensic scientist and the victim’s DNA was recovered from the tip end of the blade: In addition to the knife, police seized an iPhone XS with a SIM card, four oyster cards and clothing including a black jacket and a black balaclava: Officers used a range of tactics at their disposal to link him to two other occasions where a member of the public had been randomly stabbed; on 3 April 2020 and 7 April 2020. This was despite his extensive attempts to disguise his identity with masks and gloves: In each case, data from the mobile phone and oyster cards found in Innocent’s possession at the time of his arrest, and CCTV taken from the surrounding areas, showed him to be in the vicinity at the time of the attacks: Innocent denied all allegations in interview and was charged on 24 April 2020.

Detective Constable Russell Harvey said: “This was a series of premeditated, unprovoked attacks without any warning or motive. Innocent deliberately went out on the streets looking to cause harm to people in the community and his actions were nothing short of horrific: Thanks to a dedicated investigation by Central North CID officers, the suspect was quickly identified and linked to further offences by CCTV, Oyster card and phone data. I am overwhelmingly glad that we could bring some closure and justice to the victims who suffered through such awful ordeals. These random attacks left them with serious injuries and it is incredibly fortunate that they all survived: The result today reflects the violence of Innocent’s actions. It is undeniable that a very dangerous man has been taken off the streets. The Met remains committed and dedicated to tackling violent crime and removing dangerous weapons from our communities and putting and violent offenders behind bars.”

(BOSTON, Mass.) LATEST: A 24-year-old man accused of stabbing a rabbi multiple times outside a synagogue was ordered held without bail on Friday #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – July.05: A judge ordered a hearing for Khaled Awad, of Brighton, the Boston Herald reported. Awad is charged with assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon and assault and battery on a police officer.

#AceDailyNews reported on this incident on Thursday of the stabbing of Rabbi Shlomo Noginski outside the Shaloh House Jewish Day School in Brighton Fox News reports that a Jewish rabbi stabbing suspect has been denied bail as Jewish leaders urge hate crime probe,” by Louis Casiano, Fox News, July 2, 2021:

He sustained multiple non-life threatening wounds to his arm and is recovering in a hospital.

Awad allegedly drew a gun and told the rabbi to take him to his car and attempted to force him inside, Rabbi Dan Rodkin, executive director of Shaloh House, told Fox News. Noginski tried running across the street to a nearby park called Brighton Common and was stabbed eight times in the arm, he said.

“The victim and suspect walked toward the van and the suspect told the victim to get in the van. At this point, the victim began to flee. The suspect chased the victim across Chestnut Hill Avenue and into a park across the street. The pursuit continued into the park, where the suspect caught up to the victim and stabbed him several times with a knife,” according to court documents obtained by WCVB-TV.

Prosecutors said officers confronted Awad after the attack and drew their weapons on him after he pointed a firearm at one officer. After putting his weapon on the ground, he allegedly kicked an officer in the stomach.

The school was running a day camp at the time of the attack and went into a brief lockdown, Rodkin said. No one else was harmed.

A motive for the attack was not revealed.

In court, prosecutors said Awad does not have a criminal record in Massachusetts but faces charges in Florida for alleged battery and theft. He may also face civil rights charges, prosecutors said.

Rabbi Shlomo Noginski was stabbed multiple times Thursday outside a Boston synagogue, authorities said. He is recovering from his wounds.

Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins was in the courtroom Friday and is facing calls from Jewish leaders to investigate the stabbing as a hate crime.

“This was an act of hate, of darkness,” Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Greater Boston spokesperson Shira Goodman said, according to WBUR. “We will continue to live Jewish lives. We’re going to continue to pray at our synagogues, to attend our schools … and double down on social justice for all. That is light and that is love.”

Noginski, a father of 12, experienced anti-Semitism as a child in the Soviet Union when he was badly beaten in one attack, Rodkin told Fox News. In response, his mother put him in martial arts classes and he is now a black belt in judo, Rodkin said.

The family eventually moved to Israel where Noginski became a successful businessman and was a city councilman at one point. He moved to Boston to serve the city’s Russian-speaking Jewish community, Rodkin said.

“He dropped everything in Israel to come here to be a rabbi,” he said. “It’s hard to find a person who’s more kind, more gentle, very sincere, very humble.”

The case has renewed fears of anti-Semitic behavior following a series of attacks and vitriol against Jews that have gone viral in recent months.

In a tweet Friday, Israel’s Minister of Diaspora Affairs, Nachman Shai, said the attack on Noginski was reminiscent of 1930s Europe and that “anti-Semitism is on the rise in the United States.”…

(GERMANY) JUST IN: At least 3-people were killed and five seriously injured in a knife attack on Friday by a 24-year-old Somali immigrant, described by officials as having been placed under compulsory psychiatric treatment in recent days #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – June.26: Three are dead and five very seriously injured,” regional Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann said after arriving on the scene. “With the most seriously injured we are not sure they will survive.”

GERMANY: At least three killed and five seriously injured in knife attack on Friday the police stopped and arrested the attacker in the town of Wuerzburg by firing a bullet through his thigh they said his injuries were not life-threatening

Kinife Attack Report:

The man had lived in Wuerzburg since 2015, the year Germany opened its borders to more than a million migrants and refugees fleeing war and poverty. His life was not in danger and he was being questioned by police in hospital, Herrmann said.

“His condition had been noticed in recent months, including violent tendencies, and a few days ago he was put into compulsory psychiatric treatment,” Herrmann said.

Later, he told public television that, according to one witness, the suspect had called “Allahu akbar”, an Arabic phrase meaning “God is great” and often associated with acts of Islamist terrorism before starting his spree.

“That suggests a possible Islamist motive, and that is also part of the investigation,” he added.

Among the three dead was a young boy and one of his parents, Main Post newspaper said.

As is standard practice in Germany, police did not release the name of the suspect.

Police said there was no indication that there were any other attackers, and that the situation was now under control.

Videos posted on social media showed a seemingly barefoot man holding a long knife being warded off by other men with chairs until police arrived. Another video appeared to show blood on the ground.

The videos matched the reported location of the attacks on and around Wuerzburg’s central Barbarossaplatz, though it was not immediately possible to confirm when they had been made.

Reuters footage from the scene showed dozens of police and emergency vehicles in attendance.

Wuerzburg, an ancient city of 130,000 people some 100 km (62 miles) south-east of Frankfurt, was five years ago the scene of a knife attack on a train by a 17-year-old Pakistani asylum seeker in which five people were injured, two seriously.

(CHICAGO) CPD REPORT: Officers scour homeless camps for man who stabbed Maryland graduate student in brazen daylight attack #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – June.23: Investigators say grainy surveillance video captured the moment Anat Kimchi was attacked from behind around 4 p.m. Saturday in the 400 block of South Wacker Drive Saturday while walking along the sidewalk near Eisenhower Expressway. The unidentified suspect ran off and has not been apprehended:

CHICAGO: ‘Anat Kimchi was a doctoral candidate studying criminal justice: Chicago police continue to hunt for the homeless suspect who fatally stabbed a 31-year-old woman since identified as a doctoral student studying criminal justice at the University of Maryland during a brazen daylight attack over the weekend that happened not far from the city’s financial district according to of Fox32’

Why is the media ignoring bloodbaths in cities like Chicago?

“As you can see, there is a homeless encampment that is adjacent to where this crime scene is,” Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown told reporters. “We suspect this likely is a homeless person that secreted themselves in the bushes and came out and committed this heinous crime.”

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said at a press conference Monday that officers were “scouring the various homeless encampments downtown” for the suspect responsible for the stabbing – but denied that the attack proves the touristy area near Willis Tower is unsafe, the Chicago Sun Times reported.

“We know who he is. We’ve got good film of him,” she said. “We believe he’s a homeless individual.”

But Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan said at a later press conference that police still “are seeking the identity and the eventual arrest of the person who stabbed that female.” A witness told police the suspect – described as a man around age 30 with dreadlocks and wearing a red bandanna, a dark shirt and light-colored pants – came out of D’Angelo Park and stabbed the woman, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Anat Kimchi, 31, was a doctoral candidate studying criminal justice at the University of Maryland and was in Chicago visiting friends.

The suspect fled and discarded his shirt, which was later found by police. Surveillance footage appeared to capture the suspect throwing the knife he used to stab the woman into the Chicago River, according to the Tribune.

The broad-daylight stabbing happened in an area known as The Loop, which is about a block from the Willis Tower, a popular tourist destination, and not far from the city’s financial district, WJZ reported.

Brown on Saturday stressed that the woman was walking in a secluded area closer to the ramp to the expressway that’s not often frequented by pedestrians. A dispatcher reported over police radio transmission that the woman was found lying on the sidewalk bleeding from the neck, WBBM-TV reported. Kimchi was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Brown said police are using surveillance video to follow the path the suspect fled before disappearing beneath the Interstate 290 overpass. He said at least one witness was cooperating with detectives.

Kimchi was a doctoral candidate at the University of Maryland in the department of criminology and criminal justice. She previously attended high school at Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Rockville, Md.

“Anat was already a notably accomplished scholar, but more importantly she was a remarkable woman who was beloved by friends and family,” University of Maryland Professor Gary LaFree wrote in an email disseminated to the campus community, according to Fox 32 Chicago

“The University of Maryland grieves the loss of Anat Kimchi, a brilliant young scholar,” the school added in a statement. “We offer our condolences to her friends and family during this difficult time.”

Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School set up a page to make donations in Kimchi’s honor. Her family said Kimchi was in Chicago visiting friends and asked for privacy while they mourn her death. Kimchi had worked with Choice Research Associates in recent years on projects that focused on disparities in probation sentences and evaluating the impact of placing female juvenile suspects in custody, the Times reported.

(LONDON) MET REPORT: A youth charity has backed plans to get communities involved in stopping violence among teenagers after worst year for teenage killing of 17 with 15-stabbed #AceNewsDesk report

LONDON: On track for worst year of teenage killings: Charity XLP says getting communities involved would help to promote understanding of the issues facing young people and tackle stigmas: Tom Pickering works for XLP, a youth charity whose staff knew two of the 17 teenagers killed this year, including Levi Ernest-Morrison.

Lorraine Jones
Pastor Lorraine Jones, whose son Dwayne Simpson was killed in 2014, has backed the Met’s call for community action

Family photo: Ernest Morrison, pictured with his younger brother, had used services provided by XLP

Since the start of the year, 17 teens – 12 of them black – have been killed in London. Fifteen of them were stabbed: If teenage deaths continue at the current rate, this will be the worst year for young homicides since 2008.

Mr Pickering believes communities have to be at the heart of helping breach the divide between people and the police.

He said improved community involvement would help develop a sense of “shared responsibility” and help break down some of the stigmas around race and class that are often associated with youth violence.

‘It takes a village’

“We need people to feel safe and I think often people will feel safe if there’s an increase in police patrols and stop and searches; they think that solves the problem. But actually it’s understanding communities that’s important to stopping youth violence, that’s what needs to be focused more on.

“A lot of the young people have a feeling that they should be wary of the police, especially if they are someone of colour. Often they tell us they carry a knife simply out of fear.

“I think people can help end youth violence by getting involved in the lives around them.

“The police do their job but it really does take a village to raise a child. It’s important we all understand and play a role in this.”

XLPXLP works in nine boroughs across London

Pastor Lorraine Jones, whose son Dwayne Simpson was killed in 2014, said: “As a mother who has lost her son through the senseless killings caused by youth violence, I plead with all communities, families, local authorities, social services, schools and faith groups to step up and engage more with our troubled youth before it results in violence.

“The police cannot solve this problem alone. The next child could be yours or someone you know. The wall of silence can only be broken by us.

The Met has said it will be operating a multi-layered approach over the summer to “suppress violence” and end “needless killings”.

Cdr Alex Murray said: “We understand that some people may not trust police so we are working hard to build those relationships and show that we are only motivated by preventing violence. It is our number-one priority: “ We simply cannot do this alone,” he added. “Everyone has a role to play.”
